Star Wars: Battlefront 2

So is this any good chaps? I bought the first one when it dropped in price, no way was I gonna pay £100 for it and I did get a few weeks enjoyment out of it.
It's Star Wars so will always have that feel good factor but the game was very shallow and didn't hold my interest for ages like some other Dice games. Is this a bit more tactical, ie can you play together as a squad at a more measured pace? The previous game was too much of a meat grinder with luck more than skill determining the outcome and the run die rinse repeat got old quite quickly.
Also the weapons all felt very samey in the first one, is this changed much?
From my perspective, it is way better than the first one. Visually, it is so impressive and the music score also top notch, it really sucks you into the SW universe. It's Star Wars so will always have that feel good factor but the game was very shallow and didn't hold my interest for ages like some other Dice games. I think the classes are better this time round. The whole setup is a bit more like Battlefield in terms of unlocking weapons and a different playstyle is needed for each class. I'm probably the wrong person to ask about tactics as I'm usually the first one running into that deathtrap corridor that everyone else seems so wary of to my inevitable death! Having said that, the guys I play with (who are better than me!) are often discussing with one another where to go and what to do so, maybe!
The guns feel pretty different and some are better in different situations. I'll often switch weapons on re-spawn when we have pushed into a more open area for example. Some have attachments and mods you can unlock but, don't expect the same sort of depth in this area as battlefield. There are only 3 per weapon to unlock (and only 4 weapons per class, including the starter gun).
The feel good factor is there in abundance. I haven't touched the campaign or starfighters yet (My pilot skills aren't great!) so can't really comment although, if ariel combat is your thing, it looks amazing!
Hmm all sounds a bit more promising, I may give this a go. The Star fighter stuff was pretty decent in the first one so you should give it a go, especially the one VR mission, that actually blew me away it was so good.
It's a shame they haven't implemented any VR stuff into this one, it really felt like you were in the Star Wars universe which for a Star Wars fan is pure heaven. My PSVR is also sat gathering dust at the moment so would have been nice to have a decent excuse to fire it up again.

I'm sure I've heard somewhere that there is an EA access option for about a fiver which gives you access to 10 hours of multiplayer. Might be a decent test if you're undecided. It's a shame they haven't implemented any VR stuff into this one, it really felt like you were in the Star Wars universe which for a Star Wars fan is pure heaven. I played the VR mission on a mates PSVR and was very impressed! From what I've heard, the starfighter aspect of the game is much bigger now, the maps are unique and have spaceships and space debris around rather than just being a huge open space. It is a shame there is no arcade version of starfighter as I would've liked a practice before diving in. I think the campaign has ariel elements so, once I've had a dabble, I shall then pop my online dogfighting cherry

Eurgh! Can't stand that Guy!! I'm amazed that objectionable people like him can actually make a living spouting such drivel. Modern times are strange for sure...I had a few more good games yesterday (and some bad ones, of course!) and got to play Yoda! Good fun til I got flashbanged in a corridor and focus fired by what seemed like the entire enemy team! I think I just get a bit over-excited on the rare occasions I get a hero so, over commit myself! If you play as heavy and have the enhanced sentry gun, shooting the objectives (MTT, walkers etc) when they're exposed, the battle points are insane!! I was getting almost 2k points per exposure on Hoth last night!!
Had a brief look at the campaign earlier and, it's really impressive so far. One problem I encountered is int the first ariel battle. I kept finding myself leaving the mission area and triggering a countdown but, there was no indication of which way to go to get back to it (doing a 180 isn't as easy as you might think without visual reference points!) so, I died a few times in a row which was really annoying! Other than that, the first few missions (I played about 50 mins total) are really good fun and it is good trying out the different abilities too.
Guvernator, I had a chat with my squadmates last night about playing methodically and tactically in multiplayer. The resounding consensus was 'not really'. You can flank together and stay in a group, focus fire particular enemies, call out which objectives to concentrate on etc. but, the pace of play is too frenetic really for anything more in depth.
Overall, I'm still having an absolute blast! I can only imagine that the various nay-sayers giving the game poor reviews and scores are either reviewing the lootbox/progression system exclusively or they're actually playing a totally different game!

Hmm sounds similar to the first game which while it was definitely fun for a couple of weeks, mainly due to the "Wow I'm playing Star Wars" factor, doesn't really give the game much longevity. I may wait like I did with the first one and pick it up when it starts to appear at a reduced price or pre-owned. Surprisingly that doesn't actually take very long theses days.Guvernator said:

I do also wonder if there will be any more story content but that seems unlikely.
I ran through the campaign over the weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. Sure, the narrative could have been a bit more cohesive and the hero missions were clearly only in there so you could use a hero but, I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it and will be playing through again on a harder difficulty level at some point.
I tried a bit of Starfighter assault which is also great fun but, there were many, many crashes!! There is just so much space debris to avoid!! Tried my first game of Blast this morning and, despite my concerns that it would be a game mode full of sweaty tryhards, I came out of it 2nd on the leaderboard with 17 kills! (a result that in no way reflects my skill level! ) I think that blast might be a far more productive way to earn credits than Galactic Assault because the games are so much shorter than your typical Galactic assault match.
Having unlocked the 3rd weapon for the Heavy class and the cooling mod (which seems to make no difference by the way!), I'm going back to assault to grind for the final gun for which I need another 200 kills. I'm not sure if that is with the CR-2 or just any kills as an assault trooper. Either way, it'll take me a little while.
Oh, and I also re-watched the Force Awakens and Rogue One over the weekend....'pew. pew!!'

It's 200 kills... I just got 0 kills... but 17 assists. 17!!!!! argghhh.
back to the drawing board for me I think...
I did read a good article about not bothering to spend crafting points on cards or something - as you get them in crates. Which I guess is obvious really. Although I've spent a lot on cards myself - will just save them up for weapons crafting from now on and hopefully pick up enough cards from crates now.
There are a ton of crates to be had from completing the Campaign - which I'm yet to do... About half way through

I think assists might be included, don't quote me on that though. Either way, I seem to be making steady progress, only another 130 to go! (EDIT: You are correct, assists don't count towards the progression. I have even noticed that with some of the earlier weapon challenges, you actually have to get kills with the weapon rather than abilities like nades and vanguard - the grind is real )back to the drawing board for me I think...

I've been buying hero crates exclusively. Usually get 50 crafting parts per crate if you only get 4 items (if you get 5 items, you only get 5 crafting parts) and I usually earn enough for 2 or 3 crates per day.
With regards the campaign, you should definitely take the time to finish it. You get 500 credits per mission and then a bonus of 5000 credits on completion!

Hmmm, it's beginning to look as if this is my own private thread!
I've finally unlocked the 4th assault weapon - only tried it out in arcade so far but, I'm a bit underwhelmed by it. As with many of these guns, it has a recoil mod so, I'll unlock that before making any final judgements.
I had an insane game on Kamino last night! First half of the game, I was on my usual form (ie. distinctly average) then, on the 4th phase, I embraced the Wookie Warrior and it all went a little bit mental

Haha, I saw you online this morning, and tried to see if there was a way I could get into your game without becoming a squad... doesn't seem there was an option, maybe it was full... the only offering was to spectate you!
I am working on Officer at the moment, trying to get better with Turrets, royally having my ass handed to me though!
You must have got that 500 Assault Kill Achievement, I'm 80 away!

Oh, it absolutely is OP but, it's pretty situational too - very well suited to corridor warfare as you can see ! The overload to extend the spread and increase the damage is a real Hero killer! Half the time, I don't bother holding out for heroes if there is a Wookie available My killstreaks with the wookie on other maps are usually much more pedestrian (and often there are no killstreaks at all!)

Yes, got the 500 kills at last thanks to a few good games this morning. The arcade match I tested the new gun on was CQC so, I'm hoping it does better on more open maps. Next up will be the Heavy class to 500 kills. I haven't even spawned in as an Officer yet!!

I've had similar success on that map. I managed to get in a position, near one of the platforms where the Droids couldn't quite reach me and they didn't have Heroes in play... I blasted everything and the health boost is handy as well I was just down some steps, to the side of the platform, but basically they came along and I just obliterated them. I tried it again in a later game but got Mauled...I've finally unlocked the 4th assault weapon - only tried it out in arcade so far but, I'm a bit underwhelmed by it. I am plodding through the classes, trying to get the various weapons, but finding it quite hard to get kills (not assists) on Heavy. Plus I seem to have a lot of teams where they haven't got a clue about how to defend or when to defend and when to hang back. I then switch to Assault and it all starts to work well, well for me at least. But the damage is done. So it's Heavy kills vs. winning...
I'd also forgotten the different method of aiming - so I'm a bit better with that now. ie moving to aim as opposed to aiming as it were.

I honestly didn't, I was feeling pretty immune to heroes by that point (think I'd killed maybe 4 or 5 of 'em by then ) The most annoying part was, you can see just before I died, I had just activated my health boost but it hadn't had time to kick in. A second or two sooner and I reckon I may have survived!!...although you must have PAPPED yourself when Darth M popped into the corridor just before dying

I think I know where you mean, These things are usually impossible to replicate as there are just too many factors in play but sometimes, like last night, the planets align in your favour I guess.I am plodding through the classes, trying to get the various weapons, but finding it quite hard to get kills (not assists) on Heavy. I think I already have quite a lot of kills with the Heavy class, indoor maps like the Death Star are quite good. I have found that I get as many with the Sentry gun (as with my primary (the second gun with the recoil mod). Hmmmm, move to aim you say....that makes sense, might have to make more of a conscious effort to do that myself!!
I'm just letting the heavy kills come organically and not really chasing them. I didn't like the class at first but, once I unlocked the second weapon and the recoil mod, things got much easier. The starting guns have a fair amount of kick!
Doubt I'll bother with specialist class - never enjoyed sniping, I much prefer to spawn, run, maybe get a lucky kill, then die...repeat as necessary
