Your YouTube vid actually gave me a better idea of how to be more Wookie! Still no where near the epic levels of that, but did manage my record kill streak with one, of errr, 6! Told you I was crap!
My video is an extreme exception to what normally happens and was very much a vanity post hehe A killstreak of 6 is perfectly respectable, and very often more than I will manage.

I also waste heroes because I don't really know their abilities or how to use them effectively. I really must work on that!

The final assault gun is, so far, very frustrating to use! in about 5 games last night I only managed 14 actual kills so even getting to 50 to unlock the recoil mod feels like a slog!

I've gone right off Kashyyyk as I seem to be getting the night map all the time now and don't see who is shooting me until I'm already dead.....over, and over and over again! I was planning a bit of a grind this evening but, I think the pub might be calling instead beerdrink

I was going to mention that, is Kashyyyk in the dark new in the patch, just played that for the first time, chaos! I think its the weakest map for me too, its ok when you get to the turbo tank phase and it becomes a bit more focussed, but otherwise its just a sprawl and having no idea where anything is coming from!

Every time i've had Kashyyyk in the last few days, it has been a night map but, whether or not that is just coincidence, I have no idea.

I'm thinking about getting this for my son for xmas. What's all this about loot crates and having to spend (or, worse) gamble to get on in the game?

Plus, is it any good?

Cheers

We've got it for our 10-year old for Christmas - it looks pretty awesome & he hasn't stopped going on about it. Keeps asking to buy it with his spendslaugh

I think they've done away with the microtransaction stuff for now, but people do like a good moan. To be honest, I'm looking forward to having a go on it and it's not my sort of game.

Like a lot of Star Wars stuff (movies, games, toys), it's adults that like to whinge about it.

You don't have to spend money to get stuff, but then you do have to 'grind' the game... which basically means playing it a _lot_

The main issues were A) that people could pay to win and then B) that you have paid the full amount for a game but that you had to earn/grind away at it to get features that you felt you'd paid for.

It's quite complicated - and I personally think that is the main issue.

As with all these things there are two sides.... You could argue that if someone wanted to buy stuff then so what, it's their choice. But then you also buy stuff but it's a lucky dip, so you could buy loads of things and then end up with not much to show from it. Duplicate items only give you a few hundred credits, which don't go very far. You could argue that as a player you should earn the right to have the best stuff, the cream will rise to the top, etc.. Again even if you earn items, the loot crates are pot luck and you may well end up with less than someone else.

The other issue is that you can buy (or rather you could buy) crystals which could purchase credits or crafting parts but you still need to complete various achievements in order to unlock them... Which are mostly staged - so in order to unlock the 2nd gun for a class (which, as everything is by class multiplies troop stuff by 4) you then need to use that gun to unlock mods for that gun. For my liking there are too many interlinked and interdependent currencies and the menu system means you have to plod around it up and down, in and out to see what is going on, to open up Achievements to then get the credits or crates due to you and then go to open the crate (separate area again) and then equip the items or use them, etc..

For me the game itself is okay, to above average. The main issue for me is the menu system - it's awful and buggy, slow and the other big issue is the speed in which it (still - from SWBF1) takes to get in to a match, get to the next match or exit a match.. It's woefully slow and painfully boring. You can't check any of the achievements whilst playing online - so you're not really sure how close you are to achievement X, Y or Z.. until it shows up between games and quite often it shows you achievements that it thinks you should be interested in, not the ones you are interested in.. etc..

Saying all that I still like playing the game but it isn't without it's flaws - just that most of them (for me) surround the game itself as opposed to being part of the gameplay.

Thanks, that's useful.

It sounds complicated, and I don't agree with the loot crates and DLC when the game costs so much to begin with.

Finally, they have increased the credits you earn!! Not by a huge amount but, I was getting 450 credits in GA this morning and around 200 - 400 for a SA match depending on it's length. Probably around a 30% increase give or take which is better than nothing. There is also an element of performance based scoring. Some of my friends tend to top the leaderboard in most games and they were getting around 600 credits per match.

It is also now possible to earn 1500 credits each day in arcade mode, increased from 500 and they have said that there will be more crafting parts in the daily crate (I got 15 instead of the usual 5). None of these things fix the terrible and confusing progression system but, they are all small steps in the right direction. There will also be some activity specific weekends coming up such as blast this weekend which could well mean double credits.

I tried to mix it up over the weekend and played a lot of Heroes vs Villians, which is a huge amount of fun and seems decent for quick credits. I have also become very addicted to Starfighter Assault, it is so much fun and I've been having reasonable success and managed to have a go in a number of Hero Ships. They really need an arcade mode for Galactic Assault though so, you can practice the heroes like you can for the 'boots on the ground' heroes. I tried turning advanced flight on but, I don't like it. The ship constantly rolls when I'm not expecting it too and I just find it really disorientating! Easy controls are the way to go on this one I think!!

I've upgraded my first 'thing' to purple (is that epic?) which is my heavy shield. 480 crafting parts seems very expensive for that upgrade though!! Who knew that Battlefront would be even more grindy than Destiny hehe

I've bought this for my nephew this Christmas - it is just too much fun not to play!

From the official EA forum...

"
Prepare for Deployment
It's been a busy few weeks for Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II. We’re excited to have launched the game to the world, but recognize that there have been some challenges along the way. We have learned a lot, and are making adjustments to the game to ensure the best experience possible. On Tuesday, an update is rolling out that begins the Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II The Last Jedi Season by kicking off factional challenges, letting you choose a side and start competing for rewards as either The First Order or The Resistance.

Today, an update went live that includes some adjustments to the economy and progression. While these are only some initial steps toward making much larger changes, some of these are ready to roll, and are available starting today.

The end-of-round payout has been increased. This is an area we agree needed to be buffed a bit, especially when it comes to rewarding players for doing well in-game. We're upping the number of Credits you get for a match across the board, and specifically bumping the top players on each team by even more.

Earn 3X more Credits daily in Arcade Mode. It's been made clear that you were hitting the Arcade Mode Credit cap faster than we expected, so we wanted to alleviate that by increasing it to 1500 Credits. While we're still looking into ways to add more content into it the mode in the long-term, we think that this should help in the near-term for those who want rewards for completing the different scenarios.

Daily Login Crates will now provide more crafting parts than before. You'll notice the change right away when you log in. Crafting the Star Cards you want will help make sure you're progressing in the direction you want, and we absolutely wantto empower that. This should help you get where you want to go faster when it comes to crafting and upgrading.

Things kick into high gear over the next few weeks, during the Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II The Last Jedi Season, with free* heroes, maps, and vehicles. Stormtrooper-turned-hero Finn joins the fight for the Resistance and Captain Phasma steps on to the battlefront for the First Order. New locations and vehicles will also arrive: you can fight on the ground on the salt-covered planet of Crait in Galactic Assault mode, or take to space in the Starfighter Assault map of D'Qar (flying Tallie Lintra's RZ-2 A-wing, a vehicle you'll be seeing in the film).

And, of course, Iden Versio returns in Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II Resurrection during the days of the First Order’s rise to power. These new chapters of Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II’s single-player story mode will be available December 13.

Thank you again for your passion around this game. Star Wars™ is special to all of us, and we all want to experience that world in fun, exciting ways. If you're already playing the game and are loving it, we want to thank you for taking the time to do so. We have a lot planned, and are excited to show you what’s to come.
  • Requires Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II on applicable platform (sold separately), all game updates, internet connection, EA account, and, for console players, Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus membership (each sold separately).
Keep your eyes on EA Star Wars™ on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram for much more of what’s coming to Star Wars Battlefront II or join the discussion on the official forums.

The increase seemed to make a decent amount of difference last night, must have earned enough for 5 Hero crates total. 1500 credits from arcade mode daily is very useful! What I've been doing is setting up a custom match, start as 'default' so I can choose assault, set my own health to 'one hit' and Last Stand to 'on'. Starkiller base is a good map as there is always a wall wherever you spawn. Simply spawn in, throw grenade, die, repeat x 15 - voila....1500 credits in about 5 mins thumbup

Faction chosen (I've embraced the Dark Side) and made a decent start on the first challenge, which is 50 kills with each class. I'm guessing this is purely a multiplayer challenge so, it looks like I'll have no choice but to try out Officer and Specialist after all. The Officer class must be quite good because I get killed by the Blurrgg or whatever it's called a lot!!

Still enjoying Starfighter assault but, my regular squadmate isn't so keen so, I'll be playing it mostly when I'm online alone. The best settings I've found for me is a sensitivity of 50% and a deadzone of about 15% with roll disabled and advanced flight switched off. I may even increase the sensitivity as it seems that higher is easier, unlike with the troopers. More tweaking and experimenting to be done but, I've been having some pretty decent games with these.

H vs V is practically unplayable now. Seems to always be at least 1 AFK player, sometimes more. Hope they fix it soon. I suspect that these AFK farmers will be the very same people who, having unlocked everything, will be the first to complain that there is nothing left to grind for.

Is that why I walked around the corner and Lando was just going around in circles looking at the ceiling.... Looked like he'd just left Wetherspoons after a good session!

Yup, that is classic AFK farming. You can still play of course but, when they're on your team, you're outnumbered and when the farmer is the target, you have no choice but to be defensive. We even had one idiot AFK'er who couldn't even do that properly. We were on the Kashyyyk map and, I can only assume his rubber band came off when he was the target and he just walked off the edge.....He had one job.....banghead

If they're on the other team, it just feels like a cheap kill.

I'm not going to play that mode again until something is done, it just takes the fun out of it.

I see what you mean now in H v V, i'd not really played it that much so far, just went into a game and the whole opposition where farming points! I duly took 12,000 points for 2 games but the appeal to do more wasn't there! They do need to sort that out though, thats a mess!

I saw it in Galactic Assault as well... Annoying if they're on your side! This was on the Xbox, so not sure how they manage that - unless it's not fully automated.

At least in Galactic Assault, you've probably got 19 other guys on your team actually participating. In Heroes vs villains, one guy is a quarter of your team!

Screw the weekly challenge!

50 kills with assault? Easy
50 kills with heavy? No problem.
50 kills with officer? Sure, I can do that.
50 kills with Specialist? No fking way! You can take your weekly challenge and shove it up your deathstar, making sure you use the force when you do!!

Yes, I tried specialist today. No, I am not trying it again! The early weapons are trash, all I could do was damage people. I got 2 kills in 2 matches (on Hoth, a supposed 'sniper's paradise!) Sod that!

I spawned into a very frustrating match after that. On Tattooine, we were being mercilessly spawn camped, to the point where I would be shot within seconds of spawning. Tried taking to the skies, nope - missile locked as I spawned.....dead (3 times) killed by a guy with all purple cards on his starfighter. After dying repeatedly about 12 times, maybe scraping a couple of kills before dying, I checked the scoreboard. It was 20 vs 3. I spawned in as the AT-ST and even then only took a few out and didn't last long, With the higher vantage point though, I could see all of their team lined up camping the spawns on our side of the map. I thought about sticking it out for the credits but, it just wasn't worth it! Hope I don't see that again in a hurry!

Yep - although doesn't the Specialist have an assault rifle option?

Yep! That annoys me to the Nth degree as well!! I see it as a challenge, but of course sometimes the other side just overwhelm you. Hopefully I don't come up against them or they're on my side!! wink
