I'm not a fan of EA by any means, I think some of their practices are very underhanded and mercenary BUT I think games developers are sort of stuck between a rock and a hard place. Games, especially triple A titles cost more and more to develop, we have basically gotten to Hollywood movie type budgets in recent years so they have to try to guarantee a decent return. They can either do that with paid for DLC\Season passes etc or micro-transactions.

Personally I think the best approach is free DLC which keeps the games community together and micro-transactions that don't lock content but just have superficial or decorative purchases although I'm not sure if this model is actually lucrative enough to balance out the huge development costs.

I played the open beta on the pc a few weeks ago, and i just don't like the model of progression they use now in 'battlefield' games.

Battlefront 1 you had cards for unlocks, but after about 5/6hrs(i could be too short) you have it all so i found the replayabilty was almost done for me there beyond playing various maps and stuff

I found the beta this time a little better but still not for me, COD WW2 has a much better system in my opinion but I haven't played a COD game since MW2 and not playing by myself as most people i game with don't have it. We actually start BF4 again recently lol

Also, EA have dropped the 40hrs grind required to unlock a hero to 10hrs, and also dropped the reward for completing single player by 75% according to gameinformer...

So no real change.

Most downvoted comment ever on Reddit (by a huge margin) over 650k at the moment. If even 5% cancelled their pre-orders off the back of it then they would have been heard loud and clear.

Overwatch seems to pull a lot of money from loot boxes and all the items are cosmetic. I believe CS:GO and TF2 pull silly money from cosmetic items too. So I don't think you're right about cosmetic items not driving sales.

Yeah it arrived this afternoon, got straight in, as per usual having my ass handed to me! But first impressions are great, on the PS4 Pro it looks stunning! I loved the first one though when many did not!

So far so good!

Why does anyone expect any different from EA? This is their modus operandi, and anyone buying a game published by them should be acutely aware of this by now. They only have themselves to blame if they still throw their money at them.

think that just applies in Arcade mode. Never seen it in Galactic Assualt.

Unsurprisingly they didn't really answer any of the important questions, such as pretending they didn't know how long it would take for the average person to unlock all the content if they didn't pay extra for any of it...

Were they ever going to say anything but "we've listened to our customers and will look at their concerns", "we agree the balance isn't what gamers want and will look at it", "we've changed it so <insert excuse>"

Nothing will change as seen by changing the threshold for heroes and then decreasing the credits given during the game. Nothing they will do will change the amount of money they want to get from the game.

Really enjoyed the beta but after all the uproar surrounding the micro transactions I hope the game fails miserably.

Too many games coming out stripped back for dlc and now this crap.

If you want an EA sci-fi shooter, Titanfall 2 has no microtransactions.

Well I'm not buying any crates, and had I not being fannying around with other things, I could have unlocked Vader by now had I wished.... I have Yoda unlocked though, and that'll do!

I mean, I feel some attitudes here (mostly rightly so about the way EA and the others are going about it) is somewhat detracting from what I am finding a pretty enjoyable game so far, and I am ste at it!
