First impression (all the micro transaction business aside....) the graphics are amazing!! They are brilliant and the music and sound is excellent. As a Star Wars fan it is a massive step up from the previous one.

The Story Mode is good - a bit like Metal Gear Solid in its feel - although I've only played 3 or 4 of the levels.

Arcade Mode is good and accessible. AI is okay

Online Mode - at the moment is a little frustrating - having to earn all the upgrades again, etc.. frown but it is a challenge. The maps are huge and massively detailed. This is good and bad.

Offline Mode - I haven't tried it yet.

Overall it's a good game, but with a few flaws - nothing too major for me - but then I'm not the target market and I'm not going to use actual money to purchase anything either.

My biggest niggle was when falling back, because the maps are so huge I wasn't sure of where to fallback to and died a couple of times due to suddenly being out of the game area.. Another niggle is First Order vs Stormtroopers.. You sort of forget who is who sometimes... It can be a little confusing to be honest.

There's definitely a knack to it and upgrading is needed in order to do well. I need to start memorising some of the maps a little - otherwise will struggle with winning.

The different classes are interesting and require slightly different approaches.

It's all about getting used to where things are and how to interact with the menus to be honest.

Obviously haven't scratched the surface of it yet either.

Not sure its worth the money being charged but it is Star Wars and it is like being immersed in the galaxy. smile

Glad to see I am not alone, one little gripe I have, when selecting an online game, I can't see any option now to select a particular map, I'd like the option to be able to pick my favourite.

I agree that after certain events such as gamergate that it can be toxic but in this case they are bang on. If left unchecked EA will just keep on pushing the boundaries.

Yep - although I've noticed there's a handy arrow on the countdown dial which shows you the direction you need to go.

You're right, you don't seem to be able to choose a map, which is a shame. It's interesting that they've gone for games where either side can win, but have to press for the attack - it's not like Walker Assault which seemed to be heavily biased for one side or the other, e.g. when no snowspeeders in play.

Hmmmm... The games are thick and fast with action - I'm less convinced than I was before. I'm sure someone decent can do well (but that's not me!!) but it seems as if one of the sides is better organised then they can win. Plus it helps if you know what you need to do (obviously) but it does seem like a lot of players trying to shoot AT-ATs for instance - but they first need to be shot with a rocket and then they can be attacked by other troops. Some maps come up more regularly than others, seem to have been through a few already smile

The maps seem big but also quite often a little featureless so it feels like you're guessing where you're supposed to be headed or which doors are available. I guess that will get better with time and playing time.

ETA : Micro Transactions removed from the game before the 'Worldwide launch'...!!!

"Challenges in the design" No, we think you are greedy bds.

"concerns about unfair advantages", No again, its concerns about the fact the you need to pay money if you want to progress at a sensible rate rather than grind at the game for hundreds of hours to unlock characters.

"never our intention" Really means : "We hoped you wouldn't notice and we have been found out so we are now having to look like we care"

" a later date" As said above, when the fuss has died down we will slide the charges back in again.

I am old fashioned, I want to buy a complete game and play it, I want a whole game right from the word go and none of this paid DLC bullsts or loot crate wallet robbery.

Well the game was made shorter this morning when I went to pick it up at local GAME.

Handed copy and asked for £49.99. I said does that include my pre order £5. They said Yes, I stated that the game only costs £49.99 so I am due them 44.99.

Nope! It's £54.99! But on GAME website it's £49.99. It's been £50 since I ordered it 2 weeks ago.

So different pr8ces for the pc version from onl8ne or shop for the same retailer.

And it's a code in a box, so I will have to download it all anyway....fk

I think this was the only move they could reasonably make in the face of the backlash and it won't be a decision they've taken lightly. I suspect when microtransactions are eventually re-introduced, they will only be for cosmetic items. If they do anything else, their reputation will be permanently damaged and they'll be well aware of that.

The fact is they were trying a different model (a bad one) for an ongoing revenue stream instead of paid DLC content. Any kind of 'pay to win' model in this kind of game is fundamentally wrong. It is fine in mobile games but, not in AAA games that already cost £50 to buy. If people want to pay real money so their guns look prettier than mine or they get to walk around with a flamingo head, as long as gameplay isn't affected and my experience of the game remains the same despite not spending anything extra, I'll be perfectly happy!

What seems to be missing from this thread, which is a shame, is any feedback on whether or not the game is actually any fun to play!

I'm loving it, although I don't really know any of the maps yet, it always amazes me how fast some people level up, and you need to level up quickly to get useful toys to fight with! But I think that's always been normal? Alas, I haven't had a solid few hours to play it yet, just dipping in and out when I have had time. This weekend however, work has been ste, I am have the weekend to myself, so doing not much, and blowing stuff up, might be the tonic required.

The Star Fighter levels are epic, and utterly chaotic, but very much enjoying it. And I have a weekend

I like the way that if you stay with your squad and fight as a squad, you get more points for doing so, doesn't really work when you're playing with randoms, but if you were playing online with friends, this would work ace! Just I am the only one of my friends who has it so far.

I'm about to state the bleeding obvious... It's a completely different game to the previous one. The way you fight is totally different - there used to be Charges and Power Ups available but now you sort of need to get enough battle points, then die to achieve the same thing.

It's more of a brawl at the moment - still trying to work out the maps - as has been mentioned.. As they are bigger and more detailed and it can be utterly confusing at times - might just be me.. Trying to stay with your own troops enough but not to just be cannon fodder. Levelling up is required otherwise you just seem to shoot and shoot and then the opposition take you out with one shot - although this could be down to my ineptitude..

It still feels like Star Wars - but the other game seemed (to me) more accessible - unless it's just an acclimatising thing..

Crazy that some of you are buying this turd.

Can't wait for those microtransactions to get turned back on and you all to wonder what the hell you spent $60 on.

Just don't buy the game whether they fix the money issue or not. The bullst has not stopped coming out of EA/DICE since day one. The best thing to do is just not fund it.

Great input. Thanks. Have you actually played it and not liked it then? What was it about the game that you didn't like when you played it?

See, this baffles me. Generally speaking, new games are all around the same price. I bought Horizon Zero Dawn for example, played it for around 70 hours and felt like I had gotten good value for money. Even Destiny 2, which has zero endgame. I payed my money, played about 120 hours and, even though I wish it had kept my interest for longer, I don't feel short changed. Both of these games want more of my money for Their DLC content and I'm fine with that.

If I get £50 worth of fun from Battlefront 2, get to run around with my mates in a Star Wars universe firing space blasters at total strangers, why on earth shouldn't I buy the game? As long as the 'pay to win' model doesn't return, I have no issue with microtransactions (for cosmetics, emotes and other pointless crap) in a game where all future DLC content will be completely free.

I've finished the campaign and played a lot of multiplayer in the past two days.

My thoughts so far:
Visuals - Really good
Sounds - Amazing, truly the best part of the game
Single player - Quite a good story that fits well with the other Star Wars stories. Enjoyed it, but it's short. Enemy AI is weak.
Multiplayer - Quite enjoyable. I'm usually rubbish but have been getting successes, no glaring issues and I haven't noticed anyone kicking my arse by using maxed out cards. That tells me the matchmaking is working well so far.
Thoughts on the pay to win thing - Its not so bad for me, the unlockable characters that you need to grind for don't mean anything to me, I don't last long as a hero anyway and you get targeted a lot, so I don't bother. It's really not that big a deal to me, but I can understand why others are annoyed by it.

It's a solid game, I've really enjoyed it so far. Free DLC is coming, that's a big plus in this age.
The paid for stuff should only ever be for cosmetic bits though, in my opinion, just I can't see any affects at the moment. I know the currency is disabled so I wouldn't be seeing much paid for players, but the game has been out for nearly a week for some people.
It's worth a play, for sure. I enjoyed it a lot more than I did COD WW2.

Apparently Disney stepped in and forced the change, since they weren't too happy with their family-friendly franchise being associate with gambling mechanics

I'm only on mission 3 of the campaign and agree mostly. I'll br crap at the multiplayer but it's gorgeous to look at and sound design is spot on. Shame story is a bit if a cliche but as I'm not planning in buying DLC so for the £55 if I get a decent amount if playtime I'm happy. If I HAVE to buy DLC then it'll be st.

Played some more of the campaign and it's well made BUT the characters missions seem crowbarred in just so you can play as them, where giving us more Iden story would have been better.

Played some multiplayer conquest and it was good fun, wasn't steamrolled by guys with epic cards and even got top 10 in a game for assists.

Playing on Kamino was ace.
