I don't think I've found a game I really really like since Dying Light, or The Last of Us. Nothing seems original, unusual, interesting or enthralling any more.
Unfortunately, cost of games development means it unlikely you’ll get much different to COD, battlefield, Star Wars battlefront,Forza, GTA sequels from the big developers, on a console anyway.

Generations like my children who are discovering these franchises for the first or second time are really enjoying them though. These franchises with multiplayer console options work fantasticaly. They’re miles better than the console gaming experiences I had at their age.

Interestingly small games like roblox and minecraft are still hugely popular with pre teens.

PCs can still offer more variety through steam.

Have you tried Horizon Zero Dawn? Universally praised by everyone that plays it.

As for CoD, i didn't get to try the beta but i'll probably get the game at some point. I like what I've seen via YouTube, but unfortunately you don't get a feel for the game and i might not be a fan when i actually play it...

That looks like it could be worth a go, I googled some screen play. I like a bit of action, some puzzle to solve, and some story.

I almost gave up on the PS4, as every title I bought that was supposed to be great, I lost interest in pretty quickly. Until Horizon; Zero Dawn (to think I almost bought Mass Effect 4 over this)! I have played it 4 times now, all the way through, haven't done that since the original Tomb Raiders and Resident Evil games two decades ago!

Can't understand what your all complaining about. The COD community have been crying out to go back to BOTG instead of this jetpack, skinny bot with the screwed up hit box, wall running KBar crap (Yes I play with Synaptic and a Kbar bunker buster - de-atomizer version).. Now they have brought it out, in Beta so it's not like a finished game or anything, and everyone moans that its not moving the series forward as you can't power slide or bounce around the maps with your jetpack. FFS

You also can't compare it to IW or even BO3 as they have had constant development of their lifecycle. Hell even now IW has more map clitches in than ever before (Retalition, Genesis, Ember to name a few) and they have only just managed to stop the majority of jitter modders.

I didn't get the Beta so I can't speak from experience of playing it but from what I have seen and heard once they iron out a few of the issues like hitmarkers and tidy up a few maps it looks brilliant and will be a welcome break from the advanced movement versions.

they may have gone back to basics but that's it, it's basic. It's a generation old idea. there's no feel of quality, especially not in the maps which are a case of go left, right or through the middle. yes it's a beta but these days that basically means an internet/server stress test. they said it themselves they've been making the game for 3years, it's hardly going to be comepletely transformed in afew months before release.

And the difference between the typical 3 lane maps in IW are? Lets look at Genesis for example, 3 lanes with a building at the top and bottom. Retaliation, you can go over the bridge, through the building or round the back of it. 3 lanes, left, middle or right, same with Skydock, etc etc. All maps in COD since the dawn of time have been like this. The only difference is that in IW and BO3 you can wall run which adds a different dimension to it.

The maps will be tweaked and over time new DLC will come out. As long as they change it from a SMG fest which is one of the constant criticisms I heard about the beta then all will be will. But then again I've been playing COD for around a decade now so maybe I might just like to go back to basics as I know a lot other people do.

I was really looking forward to a good WW2 FPS in the next COD - I want ultra realism, I want to be able to play as if I was in Band of Brothers or on that Beach in Saving Private Ryan. Instead, I saw a quite cartoonish style with slow movement (I expect that will be a 'skill' upgrade) and a frankly frustrating to use UI.

They're pandering to the people that really grind that games MP modes. That's fine I guess, but it makes social or occasional online MP incredibly frustrating because you can never keep up with the class and weapon unlocks and therefore you are at a constant disadvantage.

I don't feel this about BF1, and as a result I will stick with that for the time being.

MP modes have always been like that though. Grind for Black Sky Camo, trying for nukes, trying to upgrade your gun and rank. It marks you out as a harcdcore player if you have all this and the nuke calling card. And not forgetting the bragging rights on your K/D Ratio. I love MP mode but not for these reasons it's just dam good fun.

Open Beta is up.

The interface was confusing/poorly designed.
I got dumped on the Axis team first round but didn't realise as the loading and load out screens had all been allies.
Maps seemed tiny.
It looks very good but a bit shiney. The whole thing is muddy and dark but somehow shiney. Bit odd.
I was hoping for something a bit like Day of Defeat but I should have known better. It's all running around, upgrades and levels. So, a massive turn off if you don't have every hour to dedicate to getting the best weapons/perks.

And uninstalled.

I'm torn between PC and Console (XBone) for it?

One the one hand I know that the PC is a port, so could (likely) to have bugs/issues, on the other I much prefer KB and mouse?

I've got a decent gaming rig (1060i etc.) so no worries there and my online circle of friends don't tend to play much anymore anyway.

Anyone got a compelling reason to go one way or the other??

You could sell the Xbox disk afterwards? Plus there’s no modding/cheating in the Xbox multiplayer lobbies.

I'm in

I swore after the last COD shower of sh*t that I'd never buy another, but thankfully it looks like they've taken the heavy criticisms on board and might well have produced something very good - so in that respect I'm eating humble pie and getting a copy as soon as I can. Let's hope the game lives up to the trailers.

Both good points! At my age, I struggle enough as it is without some aimbot killjoys smile

I was going to wait until Christmas and see how it reviewed, but patience isn't my forte so just ordered the XBone version from Amazon which includes some other bits (6 months of XBox Live for £14.99 too)

Let's hope it lives up to expectations.....

Ooh, it’s got 15 playable Atari 2600 games including Chopper Command and Pitfall 2. I’m wavering now...
