Destiny 2 - Xbox Players
Discussion
Not been on destiny 2 for a while and went on last night for a few hours.
Wow I am amazed how the update to 4k has made a huge difference to the graphics. Most impressive change i have noticed. just makes everything that much better. Very impressed and enjoying the new Curse of Osiris update so far.
Picked up a few new guns. and managed to upgrade my Titan quickly just doing the new missions
i will be back on most days

The DLC sucks. The story is about 90 minutes, then there's not really much to do. There is a quest to get a Sleeper Simulant but it has been set up in a way that it will take most players multiple weeks to complete, but then once you've unlocked it there's nothing to use it on except the crappy new raid lair. The improvements to the exotic weapons are good but it seems like too little, too late. If the guns are fun to use but there is nothing worth shooting, what's the point?
This game needs a major overhaul with the major DLC in September but honestly I don't think they can or will do it. In Destiny 1 you had material farming and leveling up by daily bounties, weapons had to be upgraded too, so there was a reason to log in every day, like any good MMO. Bungle realise they missed the mark with D2 and it was just a game, not a hobby like D1. I think too many people have deserted the game now and it won't recover. D1 had loads of people online even in year 3 once they'd said there would be no new content, just tweaks to the old stuff, so you could always find a squad for a nightfall or raid. That just won't be the case with D2 unless something absolutely massive happens and I can't see it, the fans have lost confidence and interest. Bungle took the most sure-fire hit game and made something crap with the opportunity.

I don't think it's all doom and gloom. Warmind makes a step in giving you things to do and Bungie release regular development maps to show everyone what they're working on. The question will be whether or not the improvements will require all the DLC to benefit.
For anyone who gave up with vanilla a long time ago we now have:
- The Go Fast update - so supers and abilities recharge more quickly
- Masterworks weapons - so you can upgrade weapons to produce orbs of light for yourself and your fireteam on multikills, meaning more supers
- Masterworks armour - allows you to change stats so you aren't fixed to specific armour sets
- Almost all exotic weapons are now more powerful, so they are worth using. Some have been changed quite a lot. Most of them are good fun now.
- Exotic Masterworks in the latest update - mini-quests that you acquire by doing certain things that end up with an upgraded Exotic
- Prestige Nightfall challenge cards, and nightfall-specific weapons to chase
- Crucible rankings, for those who like PVP
The companion app is pretty good as well. You can find fireteams for nightfalls etc and it sends out invites automatically now. Way better than going through the menus on the console.
Then by September it'll hopefully be nearing something like D1. I'm cautiously optimistic but again, it'll be bullst if you need to invest in all the DLC to benefit (unless they make it super cheap and consider it an investment into the future of the franchise - highly unlikely I know!).

The new DLC is the best thing in Destiny 2 but that isn't saying much. It's the closest the game has felt to Destiny 1 but it's still so far from that. You do get the sense that people are scrambling behind the scenes at Bungie trying to right the course of the game but I still wonder how they could have got it so catastrophically wrong in the first place.
For every step forward, they take one back. There just isn't enough to do to make it worth logging in every day. You can bash out the week's work in one sitting because the powerful gear tasks are so few. The new heroic strike modifiers are also a pain in the arse. It used to just be the rubbish nightfall strikes that you suffered through for sweet loot, now every heroic strike has goofy mechanics jammed in.
