There's a couple of cats on my map but both are in areas where I think I've previously encountered cougars, so I'm assuming maybe I haven't hit a spawn area yet for panthers (I'm in the middle of Chapter 3 in Rhodes). I could go by the Legendary animal map - that's how I found where beavers were - but in other instances, like the wolf, it didn't appear in an area known for other wolf sightings.
Physically, panthers just appear to be black cougars (but the game considers them different animals) and I think they look like that on the map. Using the legendarys as indicators will be hit and miss, like the white bison is nowhere near where bison spawn, for example.
I love this. Basically someone followed a few Non-Player Characters around for their day to see what they get up to. In itself, not that exciting, but it just illustrates the depth behind the game.

Thanks for the reputation advice. I gave up helping people early on as i would fend off their attackers but end up pointing my gun at them, after which they usually ended up dead having been a massive fanny. Will try again....

99% sure there's at least 2 if not more endings
Agree a bit on it really kicking on after 4 by the same token I don't regret any of the time I spent
