I noticed I'd been added to a group chat last night, I'm still playing the main campaign/levelling my hunter so I'll probably be a bit quiet until I've finished that.

I did have a go in the crucible the other day at level 5 and about 40 power, it went as well as you might expect laugh.

I did manage to get a kill on a level 20 by sneaking up behind them, activating my special and blasting them with my arc staff before they saw me. Cheap kills ftw.

Ah yes, the crucible....not a place where fun happens in my experience, mostly because I die in there....a lot! I am determined to play more crucible this time round than D1 - actually, I think I may have done that already hehe But, only as part of a full team from now on.

Just as well we have plenty of PvP Gods in the clan to carry me through thumbup

I'm lagging behind as usual due to going on holiday and life getting in the way, managed to get up to 220ish last night so hopefully not too long before i can join in with NF's and maybe the Raid once its all been figured out.

Really enjoying the game after a longish break from D1 its nice to be back, fairly significant improvements throughout and it feels like theres plenty to do, it certainly seems a lot more generous with loot than D1, im finding sniper rifles far less useful than in D1 though, i don't think ive been killed by one in the crucible yet,.

I'm enjoying the game but also lagging behind where I want to be before attempting the raid. I'm in the grind phase between 265 and 280 but I found this guide helped to take the guesswork out of how to level up if you have limited time to play:

I didn't realise the clan changes kicked everyone out of the old clans and I seem to have accepted a random invite to one. Are the clans invite only or is there another way to join them?

For me, weekends will be best for co-op play as during the week I'm relegated to playing via the Vita's remote screen function and the lag is just terrible - worse than D1.

You can just apply to be accepted via the Bungie website. Your approval is a foregone conclusion - if they let me in, the bar has obviously been set extremely low hehe

I've messaged Adam asking him to send you an invite thumbup

Ah cool, thanks! I managed to find the clan by going through the old Year 3 forum posts and clicking on the user profiles. They certainly didn't make it an easy process.

Very quiet in here considering the game has only been out a week. C'mon chaps ,get involved!

I don't consider the game to have properly launched until Singh starts posting screenshots of all his new exotics... hehe

(no raid spoilers this week though, please)

In all honesty, it hasn't gripped me. Objectively, it is brilliant. The game it should have been originally. I also do love it. I've put in a good few hours and do feel a pull of sorts. scratchchin

But make me absorb everything on Reddit and curse those with the Gally until I get one!? Nope. Can only equate it to going back to my uni city and having a pint at the hallowed local. Just wasn't the same. Maybe I've changed. confused

End result was that I went into the raid at a low power level- 272 and so was the inevitable liability hehe. The raid itself is brilliant. You guys will enjoy exploring it. Think we cracked the first 2 or 3 parts before it got late. Very cleverly designed, decent loot (I didn't get a weapon though!) and we likely missed a ton of secret stuff (the missing secret room was activated but not found) and also:-

Jon Snow dies

hehe

Pro-tip- jump into a fireteam this weekend for trials. The number of n00bs is likely to be much higher. It will get harder to get to the lighthouse (or whatever) each week that passes. smile

Interesting. I was certain before launch that I would be in the same position but, as with any addiction....going back for 'just one quick game' simply doesn't work and has only led me back down the road to full blown addiction!

272 should be fine for the early part of the raid, perhaps you're just rusty hehe

You've reminded me of the time I went back to my uni town, only to find my local had become a fking wine bar! A sad day indeed...

I've had a couple of late nights this week from the "just 5 more minutes" lie to myself laugh.

Xur is back. I've missed him. My favourite Destiny character by far.

Xur - despite my earlier disinformation on the PSN chat, the weapon costs 29 legendary shards and the armour 23. I blame the fact that I have precisely 52 shards at the moment and totally misread it

The weapon he is selling, Merciless, is definitely worth a buy. It's a yellow bar boss melter

Yes, Merciless is a decent weapon and worth a purchase if you have the funds. The Hunter chest is also supposed to be decent if you play arc strider a lot. I picked it up to try but, just can't bring myself to remove my Orpheus Rig boots (they're basically the equivalent of obsidian mind for shadowshot)

Total noob question but is it worth keeping exotic items you're not using or should I just break them down?

I've still got exotic armour I got as the reward for a story mission but I'm not likely to use it again as it's quite low powered.

Store them, Zed. You can power them up in the future if you want to. Only dismantle if you never see yourself using them again.

Yeah, basically what Tim said. You can infuse exotic items at a later stage to a higher power level. You'll acquire loads of blue and purple armour that you won't want to keep as time goes by. I broke a couple of duplicates down last week and you only get a few legendary shards so not really worth it.

It is also worth bearing in mind that exotics have a power mod on them which increases their power value by 5. So if you have an exotic helmet with a power value of 280, it's base value is actually 275. If you infuse another 280 helmet (without a power mod on it,) into the exotic helmet, the result will be that the exotic helmet now has a power level of 285 because of the mod.

Making progress through the story mission. Now up to a heady level 8 and 80 power....

So far I like it, the graphics seem pretty good and it seems to me that the enemy AI is better, they take more cover and try to hide more than I recall in D1.

The director is also better once I got used to it and I like the way it shows public events and suchlike. I have just found Cayde-6 and am now jetting off to the next mission (after tea smile )

Hopefully get to unlock the strikes and such like in the not too distant future.

Also, it's worth keeping early legendaries too until you get used to the (fixed) rolls to determine what to keep and what to shard, depending on your play style and preferences. There are 200 slots in the Vault so plenty of space to store everything and decide later

Never, ever bin exotics unless they are duplicates, low power and can't be used by not yet started alts. Even then I have a problem doing so, but then that's probably why I ran out of space in D1 ....

A very minor thing, but I've had a few of the... less desirable Destiny carry-over exotics drop for me. Initially I put them straight in the vault, but having now tried a couple, it seems assumption is indeed the first step into cock-up kingdom.

Helm of Dire Ahamkara was a warlock exotic helmet in D1 that gave you an armour boost whilst casting Nova Bomb. It was extremely situational, made worse by the fact that there were other helmets, like the Obsidian Mind (which refilled a chunk of your super meter when your Nova Bomb killed enemies) that were far more effective and more fun. Well, D2's Helm of Dire Ahamkara still gives you the armour buff whilst casting Nova Bomb, but it also adds the aforementioned perk from Obisidan Mind.

It's a strange amalgamation but it does make the helm a lot more viable in D2 than it ever was in D1.

Another example is the titan helm, An Insurmountable Skullfort. In D1 it gave you an extra melee charge. It wasn't terrible, but neither was it particularly useful. In D2, it's been retooled somewhat, granting you the ability to immediately get your melee back on an arc melee ability kill. Which essentially means infinite shoulder charging, as long as you don't try and use it on a boss. It's huge fun to run around simply barging into enemies and wiping out small groups (shoulder charge can now have an AoE impact effect) then running off to do the same elsewhere.

Point is, just because something wasn't great in D1 doesn't mean you shouldn't at least give it a whirl in D2. It may just surprise you.
