I've not played any previous iterations of a submarine game to compare it against, so I can't say if it is better or worse than anything that has gone before.

I understand that it is fairly new so I don't think it is completely bug free, but I haven't found any yet that actually break the game. There are quite a few videos on Youtube already for anyone who wants to get a peek of what the gameplay is like before committing themselves to making a purchase.

In truth the missions you get, either singly or whilst playing through a campaign, are a bit samey but there is something about it that keeps drawing me back.

So far I have only played the 1984 campaign, so can't comment on the 1968 campaign option, but with less capable subs to choose from armed with less sophisticated weapons, I can only imagine that it is more challenging.

It seems there is a growing modding community as well, though I have only downloaded the Russian mod, which allows you to play all of the Russian submarines in the game, as well as adding a further handful of single missions to play through.

I'm not sure whether the developers intend to include a multiplayer option at some point in the future, but if they do, that would add a whole extra dimension.

Bought it a couple of weeks ago but have yet to play anything other than the tutorials. Despite that I've been watching a lot of gameplay of it on YouTube, specifically a guy called Jive Turkey. He was a sonar operator on the 688 subs so is pretty knowledgeable about the subject. It's probably the first time I've bought a game but spent more time watching it than playing it!

Bought it, also watched Jive Turkey's vids on you tube, still doing the tutorials, seem to have some difficulties but getting there, and once there I shall be doing the 1984 missions as the 1968 have virtually no guided weapons frown

The 1968 Mk37 is guided, but it's slow and I've seen a few being outrun by both subs and surface ships which is really frustrating.

Looks good, might pick this up later. I loved 688 Attack Sub years ago, never found anything comparable since then as all or at least most sub sims seemed to focus on WW2 era stuff.

Anyone found any good strategy guides online or anything like that? Done the training scenarios which barely seem to scratch the surface. Did OK on the one-on-one sub single mission but getting eaten alive on the 3v1 mission and beyond...

OK think I might be on my tod in this thread now but here goes.

Anyone playing the campaign and finding it far easier than the single missions? I was repeatedly getting my arse handed to me by the mission with the three diesel electric subs, maybe managing to sink one on some attempts. Got bored with that in any case and decided to just start a campaign and see how I got on.

So the first mission I got sunk, as I pretty much expected to. Thereafter it's been a breeze. I hardly ever even get fired upon, even by ASW helicopters. I'm on the second-hardest difficulty setting (realistic I think) but it's almost like the enemy aren't trying.

Anyone else found this? Is there a known bug? I'm not really playing any differently than I was before, not that I'm aware of and I'm no expert on submarine or naval warfare...
