It would be helpful if there were practice arenas. As a noob there's nowhere to learn and develop the skills needed to win out. I can survive, but I can't kill. That limits me to top 5 finishes thus far. When you're faced off against someone who is tooled up in a stone and iron tower it's hard to level the playing field and switching between the various menus on the fly whilst in the heat of battle is not instinctive or intuitive at first.

Don't worry about surviving to start with, jump into busy places, get as many kills as possible, then die and do it again. Thats the best way to practice I'd say.

I've been doing the total opposite.

I don't see many people winning with more than a handful of kills.

As my reactions are old and slow these days, I use cunning to win (and I have a few Victory Royale's to my name and got to BP100 in Season 3 smile )

Don't go with the herd, get to high ground, don't start a firefight unless you're confident you're in a better situation than the other guy.

The frustration with Fortnite (vs PUBG) is that quite often it's a case of who can build quickest/more effectively to turn the tide of battle. The new combat shotgun is my fave for taking out buildings - single shot for more walls at close range! Playing squads is a good way to last longer.

Nothing quite like that first win smile

Once you've got your aim in you can focus on surviving I'd say.

I'll be honest though I've only played about 20 solo games, I find squads/duos much more fun. High ground is very important too, get used to building fast.

Also if you hit the circles when mining you mine faster. Might be obvious but took me a little while to figure out...

I can't be bothered with the 30 people who jump into Tilted Towers and turn the first 30 seconds into a battle of luck as to what weapon you find first.

I think I've played about 20 solo games and have 15 top 10 finishes with only 2 eliminations in TOTAL!

I like to think I'm reasonably handy now and can hold my own 1v1, but I still think the best way to make it to the top 10 is to be a real sneaky fcensoredcker!

Much better to shoot someone in the back of the head with a sniper rifle than get involved in an extended firefight/build off, not least because even if you do win, other players will be circling like a pack of vultures looking to pick your weakened/distracted self off as an easy kill.

Nice shot!

I managed to get my first ever solo win a couple of days ago. I was going for the "outlive 150 opponents" weekly challenge which for me means a couple of games of me hiding in bushes and keeping a low profile. I was snaking around when I realised it was me and 2 other players left. I was dressed as a bush, hiding in a cave (!) when I could hear 2 John Wicks having a shotgun fight. One jumped down just infront of me so I blasted him in the face with a pump shotty. The other guy jumped down and he got whacked too.

I just tried to watch the replay but only my season 4 plays are available to load. Can you no longer watch season 3 replays?

This is me. Played about 20 games solo and killed literally 4 people. I’m awful and the gun I have is irrelevant. I can’t build either. Just sit around camping and hoping.

I watch games through to the end sometimes and I know what I see people doing to win is probably going to be beyond me. Don't know whether to just give up and play something else or persevere and hope for big strokes of luck.

"Real World" practice and learning is very slow as you're matched against people who are highly skilled already.

To add insult to injury, it’s usually 10 year olds that are winning. hehe

Doesn't bother me. I'd expect it to be the case that in many games. The youngest Pro is 13 apparently.

My son, aged 9, is playing this right now hehe

I think the ship has sailed for me to play it. The building element wrecks my head!

Is the battle pass worth it?

Guys, don't give up on Fornite just because you're a bit older. You may not have the reflexes of a 10 year old, but you have a huge amount more intelligence and patience that can more than make up for it.

My advice is: be a sneaky fcensoredker! Don't take people on in an open 1v1 if you're not confident in your weapons or skills.

Use bushes, houses and scenery to hide and jump out on people/snipe them unexpectedly. No one says you have to "play fair" in this game!

If you hear a gunfight, run towards it whilst staying in cover and try to pick off the eventual winner whilst they're weakened and/or distracted- then you get their loot, plus their victim's loot and you've eliminated a skilled player.

As for building, learn to build a quick box fort so that it's instinctive. Just keep practising building them. That's enough building to save you in at least half of the times you get jumped.

I'm LOL'ing at some of this:

Madness. I actually quite like watching good players play, which is why I think eSports will be huge.

Nice shot - but lucky that the final circle was relatively large and everyone wasn't safely ensconced in their towers smile

Not sure what you mean? That was the first storm circle and they get progressively smaller. Lots of people are running around gathering weapons and materials at that point and no-one builds a tower to hide in then because the circle will get smaller and smaller, so I don't see where luck comes into it? confused

I concur. I can’t see me winning. I finished 5th in a solo because I literally hid as a bush for the whole game. No kills, just bush.
