Well, probably at 50-60 hours now, really enjoying the game but I've already accepted that I'll never be anything like as good as even the average players.
However, I now play what I have proclaimed to be "Pacifist Mode". I fly in as late as possible, landing after the first storm circle is showing, and aiming for the highest/most central/ area away from as many buildings as possible.
I sit and wait, moving stealthily to the next storm circle, hiding/crouching along the way.
Plenty of 4th places so far and today I got 2nd, though at that point I had picked up a weapon and the storm positioned itself perfectly such that I could stay hidden in a very small building just waiting for someone to come through the door and be shot :-)
Not sure how the last guy killed me, but being 2nd and only firing once was quite fun.
I think my ultimate achievement would be to have one of the sniper rifles, hidden high on a hill, with the storms working perfectly in my favour. Winning the game by firing a single shot.
I play like this when in solo mode, enjoy it much more than going in all guns blazing, never had a win but like you had a few 2nd's. However, I now play what I have proclaimed to be "Pacifist Mode". I’m glad they nerfed these SMGs on damage but structures come down far too easily for my liking.
I’m at 22% average win ratio across squads, duos and solos so far in Season 5. Playgrounds is fun for crushing your friend’s spirits
That is brilliant! Up until season 5 my win rate was about 2% across the three. I just had a look on Fortnite Tracker and to my utter amazement i'm also on 22% for this season , albeit I've only played 32 matches! I very much doubt mine will be that high for long!I’m at 22% average win ratio across squads, duos and solos so far in Season 5. Playgrounds is fun for crushing your friend’s spirits
Is anybody else enjoying the last couple of moving storm circles that were added with the last update? They make the last couple of circles less stagnant as they are often completely outside of the last circle, forcing all players to move.
If people are happy to share usernames we could do PH squads/duos?

I've added my PSN username above for anyone that wants to squad up. See you on the battlefield!
Just won my first ever game and I did it without firing a shot.
Stealth, stealth and more stealth with the storms positioning themselves in my favour.
When it was down to two of us we both had to run to the new circle. I pretty much had a full green bar plus 50% shields and he clearly didn't.
Victory was mine and I now have a very special umbrella.

Congratulations! The moving circles towards the end definitely make the stealth approach more viable. Like you said, both of you were forced to move, you moved quicker and he was caught out. The damage done by the last couple make staying outside for more than a couple of seconds dangerous. Stealth, stealth and more stealth with the storms positioning themselves in my favour.

I'm finding season 5 a bit dull to be honest, I don't seem to come across many people at all many more at my usual landing spots or moving to the zone and can quite often get to last 20 before I've even seen another player.
Doesn't help that they've replaced one of my usual haunts (the prison) which was always good for at least one kill right at the start.
Lots of people complaining on Reddit that the moving storm at the end makes the camping no kill strategy the best strategy and it certainly still pays more point-wise to stay alive longer rather than rack up kills.

At 54 years old I'm a bit of a senior gamer, but I do like my games.
It seems that whatever the level I'm at (9 or 10 I think) there are astonishingly good players involved in the same games who I have absolutely no chance of getting close to beating, ever.
I've given up now, because whilst I can see that it's fun if you're brilliant at it (and presumably 12 years old), it will take me hundreds of hours of practice to have even a sniff of a chance of ever winning.
Well done you - I'm a decade younger and ventured into this game for the first time last night, spent the first 2 mins sorting out my controls (and switching the view inversion round), picked a couple of things in a barn, heard someone coming, hid and got blown up by a grenade). Then seemed to switch to watching my victor run around busting moves. It seems that whatever the level I'm at (9 or 10 I think) there are astonishingly good players involved in the same games who I have absolutely no chance of getting close to beating, ever.

I had no idea what to do and how to work myself, and what the hell all the screen messages were - I didn't join up with others as I don't have a headset and I would have been a liability.
I am sure its great (and free) but not a game for the casual player

Luckily though there is a solution - select "playground" mode at the loading screen and you can go into the map on your own and work out all the controls etc and get an idea of the map layout.

To be fair, you've jumped into a multiplayer game an entire year after it was released. There's always going to be a steep learning curve in that situation.

thanks - may give it another try after a stiff drinkLuckily though there is a solution - select "playground" mode at the loading screen and you can go into the map on your own and work out all the controls etc and get an idea of the map layout.

Sweet.I was second earlier without so much as picking up a single item, never mind using a weapon.
I often wonder if the bloke who beats me on such occasions notices that I'm playing pacifist mode and that he sees I drop nothing when he kills me.
Might even self-terminate in such circumstances in future, that would deny someone the kill and I'd still be second.

Secondly, you're up against 99 other players, even if you finish top 10, you've still beaten 90 other players! Actually winning a game means you outplayed everyone else on the map, all 99 of them. That's quite some achievement considering that several of those guys will be playing for hours everyday.
I'm still enjoying 50v50 atm and had a right game last night, came down to 3 on our team and 10 on the other. Me and the other two players managed to whittle them down to just 4 by properly working together but then just got stormed by the last 4 guys and we all got taken out pretty much at the same time.
Still, played a lot of 50v50 and never had one that close before, there's usually always one dominant team that has about 20-30 players left at the end.
