Fortnite Battle Royale
Discussion
I'm a bit late to the game. My daughter and I have just started playing this and are hooked. I was never very good at video games and the last one I played was GoldenEye on the N64 about 20 years ago.
Anyway best I got was 8th in the solo, but I understand I was doing something called "camping" by hiding in a basement. I have only managed 3 kills in total so far, one of those was when I found a thermal image sniper rifle. Got one kill with that and was lining up a 2nd when some tt shot me from behind.
We are playing on PC. One thing I find hard is when under attack, switching to build means taking a hand either off the mouse so I cant move the camera or shot or the arrow keys so cant move me. Would a controller be easier or am I doing it wrong?

I'm a console gamer, but I'd assume you're doing it wrong from my memory of PC gaming. Rather than using the arrow keys, map WSAD (or similar) to forward/back/left/right, so that you can just stretch a finger to other keys (whatever they may be) for building... At least, that's how I used to play games when weapons were on keys 1-5 and you needed to switch between them! A quick Google gives me this: http://www.tomsguide.com/faq/id-3735897/fortnite-b...
Adjust as needed.

You’re using the arrow keys in the bottom right of the keyboard for moving? How are you sprinting? Jumping?Anyway best I got was 8th in the solo, but I understand I was doing something called "camping" by hiding in a basement. WSAD is the standard for movement.
Then your weapon selection will be 12345 just above that.
The standard key binds for building are the F1-F5 keys. You can change those to be closer to WSAD for ease of use.
If your mouse has side buttons, even better utilise them for something.
The key binds are infinitely customisable, mine look really strange to most people but they work for me.
Just purchased myself a cheap gaming pc for this, have been playing for a fair while on xbox and really struggling to switch over, I know itll take a lot of getting used to and just bearing with it but is there anything that can make it easier? For reference im using a mouse with 3 side buttons mapped to floor, wall and ramp, wasd to move and 12345 to switch guns. Think its just my brain struggling but maybe im doing something wrong too! Impressed with the performance of the pc in fairness, seems to be much more detailed than on xb1 and only paid £120 for all including a mechanical single handed thingy with light up pretty colours!
Cheers

Free season 8 Battlepass if you complete enough of the overtime challenges in the next week or so.
I think Epic are getting nervous of the new Apex game. I have seen several of the usual Fortnite streamers move to Apex.Overall, I feel Fortnite is in decline.
Obviously they hope people will cough up for the paid operators.

It's still a very enjoyable (and cheap!) game to play. The next season will be completely free if you unlock the fairly simple challenges this season and don't bother to buy any of the skins.
Compare that to full retail price AAA games (like Anthem) that have less developer support and yet still have microtransactions in them and there's a stark contrast.
Apex Legends does away with the build element which is a huge factor. I've not played it but have seen various snippets about Ninja et al playing it, and being paid to play/stream it at launch. Two million players in the first week?!
It was only a matter of time before a big-hitter rolled up with a product to take things forward.

Yeah it’s a popular marketing technique now for new release games to pay streamers to play it live. This time they’ve stuck with the game thiugh because it’s actually good. It was only a matter of time before a big-hitter rolled up with a product to take things forward.
It pulls together all sorts of popular game play styles too. Overwatch style class system, Cod style shooting mechanics, Halo feel to the pace in the movement and the game type of the moment, Battle Royale.
I'm playing on a fairly bog standard PC. i5 3.2ghz 4 core processor and 8gb ram. On board intel graphics.
The play is twitchy at times and sticks. I guess a good upgrade is a new graphics card but I doubt the PSU and motherboard can handle a top end card, I also don't want to spend much. Would a 2gb GPU card make much difference? There are loads on eBay from recyclers cheap. I also probably wang another 8gb ram in when the case is off as that is pretty cheap.
I also need to sort my internet. We have good supply, 80gb FTTH but the PC is using powerline adaptors and they aren't great. Will run a proper cat 6 cable at some point.

something like a 960/1050 will be more than enough. Be weary of suspiciously cheap cards on ebay though, as they will probably be fake.
You won't need more than 8 gig for Fortnite. I think most modern AAA games still play fine with 8Gb of ram (though it has been a while since I bought a new game).
