the missions were so repetitive I basically saw everything the game had to offer within the first couple of hours.
Yet another classic example of releasing a title before it's properly finished (although I understand this was mostly down to the publishers falling out with Hideo Kojima) - I did quite enjoy the game but stopped playing as soon as you get to the point about halfway through where the game starts to repeat itself - a bit like in the original Halo where you get to the end point with the swarm and realise the rest of the game involves backtracking through where you've already been... Guess what... Another one for The Witcher 3. It's ok, but I struggled to get into it. I've made it to the city but stopped. I should give it another crack. It's certainly no Skyrim though...
I picked up Witcher 3 because of the good reviews even though I didn't think it would be my thing. I then played for a while and didn't find it much fun so gave up. However, I thought I'd give it another go a couple of months later and started to get into it. It definitely gets better as you go along. In the end I really enjoyed it but could very easily have ditched it altogether after the uninspiring start. The problem for me is just lack of time. I'm currently playing and enjoying Dishonored 2, with Wolfenstein the New Colossus lined up after that. At the same time though, I'm conscious of having started Fallout 4 and put it down, irritated by the base-building. Maybe I should just forget that and play it like 3 and NV. I also stopped playing Doom (2016) a year or so ago, after getting a long way into it and then being enraged by a level in which I got through a massive fight, requiring use of Quad Damage and the BFG, only to be confronted by two Barons of Hell, with no good stuff left. I did it again, leaving Quad Damage and BFG ammo for the Barons, only to find that the goodies were shut away from me. I need to go back to it, but I also need to have the time to deal with that particular bugger of a level.

You can adjust the difficulty at any time if you really are stuck. As I get older I have increasingly less time and patience to deal with dying over and over again, so have no qualms about playing on easy to experience the rest of the game.(Deep breath)...Fallout 4. I just didn't love it nearly as much as I was expecting to. Played it a hell of a lot, finished the main story, ploughed dozens of hours into it, but I just never really found myself getting immersed in it the way you should. Shame, as I really wanted to love it
Recently picked up Skyrim again for what feels like the 748th time and can still find myself getting right back into it. Intended on playing an existing character for a bit....and ended up with another playthrough. Already at level 33.

I love Skyrim and loved Fallout 3 and NV. I gave up on 4 because I got annoyed at the base-building/settlement protection stuff. I'm wondering whether if I just ignored that and played it like 3 I'd like it better.Recently picked up Skyrim again for what feels like the 748th time and can still find myself getting right back into it. Witcher 3 takes a fair while to get used to the controls and it is a slow start but the investment pays off after a while. It really is up there with the best in RPGs.
Fallout 4 was more of the same from previous versions but still quite addictive. Only getting maximum happiness felt like a chore to get 100% completion.
I’m struggling with Uncharted 4 and The last of us. Both just aren’t gripping me at present.

Thief - the most recent reboot. Loved original Thief, Thief 2 and even grew to enjoy Thief 3 at the second time of asking. But I just could not get on with the reboot. It seemed to be telegraphing the mission walkthrough, whereas the beauty of the first 3 was that you could do pretty much whatever you liked in the whole city.
Watch_Dogs. Came free with a gfx card on PC when it was "of the moment"; I uninstalled it after 5 minutes as I could not work out what I was supposed to be doing in the opening scene.
Star Wars: Battlefront (first version). Beautiful to look at, but seemed so shallow in gameplay. Though maybe this is because online gaming isn't my thing these days (absolutely filled my guts with CS and CS:Source).

While I haven't played The Last of Us, I found Uncharted 4 to be one of my favourite games of the last several years. It was fantastic. And it went on for ages! In a good way. parabolica said:

Took me a few starts to get into The Last Of Us (though maybe this was because I was learning the PS4 control system after a lifetime playing on PC/mouse), then I played it through to the end. I intend to play it through again at some point on a harder difficulty, now that I'm a bit more dialled in to the control systems.
I also played Uncharted 4 through to the end, but that's probably because I'm a completionist. I found it fairly one-dimensional and it seemed to have just a single main gameplay mechanic (climbing/grappling). I was just grinding it out at the end in order to finish the game, and don't intend to do so again. Playing Horizon: Zero Dawn afterwards (where the climbing mechanic is not only better but also just one small facet of the game), made me realise how limited Uncharted 4 was.

The swing dynamics are a bit tacked on in and one trick pony-ish in 4, but it was made up for by the smooth animations which are some of the best I've seen. The transitions between them were pretty seamless.

I'd not call myself a gamer as I'm not into anything other than COD but BO2 for me. I've had all the COD series but only got into online gaming when MW3 came out. I played MW3, WaW and BO to death and I still play Ghosts pretty much every night and have done since it came out but BO2 was just awful. A lot of people loved it but it had no redeeming features to me. As I say, I'm still addicted to Ghosts online and I struggled to get into any COD game after that.
