For me (I'm 50 ) time is so precious I can't invest the time in most games and being a grumpy old git hate the idea that I pay £50+ for a PS4 game that unless I put 100's of hours into it I don't get to drive all the premium cars leaving me feeling cheated. Did get into NFS online about 6/7 years ago but that was annoying due to others clearly using cheat codes and cars vanishing and then reappearing when you raced them. Showing my age, PS1 lemmings and John Madden got played once. Far cry didn't like the players perspective basically made me dizzy. As a family though we all play Tomb Raider and sit as a family whilst one person controls and loved The Last of Us. I know....I'm old......I'll get my coat

I don't think that's 'old' at all. In fact i think that's pretty much how things are going to be for a lot more people in the future. More and more people are watching online gaming, be it e-sports, Twitch, Let's Play, or whatever else. Surely it's only the next logical step that families will either watch online gaming together or indeed watch each other play as you do.

So far from old Mike; you're tap dancing on the cutting edge yes

It's what we (as a couple) do with Zelda - one person controls it and the other watches, gives suggestions, etc. The new Mario is great for this as one person controls Mario and the other his hat (you can throw his hat at stuff in single player, in co-op the second person can fly it around).

In terms of games I just didn't click with for me it's Total War: Shogun 2. I've played all of the others (right from Shogun to Warhammer II) but with Shogun 2 it just didn't click and I can't really put my finger on what was wrong with it. All the elements of the other games were there, but I just didn't enjoy playing it.

Project Cars 2, £50 smakers down the drain....

Ok Ok... i'm playing with a controller (doh) but even now after a huge 5gb update the game is still pretty much unplayable for me. I know the original Project Cars got huge stick when it was released (and most of its life) but the updates flowed and it got to the point where they sorted the controller issues plus i got the controller sensitivity settings just right, the game was very enjoyable, handling was great and the game overall gave me a reason to come back.

I literally haven't played PC2 at all since Forza Motorsport 7 was released and purchased.. what does that tell you? it's not a sim no, but it's FAR more fun, and has infinitely more pick up and play value.

Reason why i haven't returned it, is that one day, just one day, it might be the game that PC was at the end of its life... Hopeful!

Had the same thing with Forza 6, which is in isolation a pretty excellent game, but I got it at the same time as Forza Horizon 3 which was just so brilliantly bonkers that Forza 6 felt a little too much like a stuffed shirt in comparison.

Funnily enough i fired up Horizon 3 the other night for a bit and going back to Motorsport 7 afterwards... it felt so limited and stale!.. still confuses me how they got Horizon 3 so polished and stable so early on, yet Motorsport 7 is still riddled with silly little bugs at the moment (doesn't stop me enjoying it though).

Yet another Witcher 3 here. I hate all that fantasy st anyway so I've no idea why I bought it.

Can't stand anything stealth. I don't have the time to hide in cupboards.

My latest disappointment is Beamng. I can see why people might like it, but you can't drive for more than a couple of metres without breaking something. I always log off feeling like I should've had a much better time than I actually did.

Certain driving games are not realistic like that. Richard Burns Rally was another, especially on tarmac. If real cars were that impossible to operate no one would own one.

Lots of dislike for Witcher3 biggrin I'm not suprised, it's a slow burner. I think it's because the first zone is very much a tutorial and focuses on getting used to the controls, interface, navigation and skills....which isn't its strong point. You can easily be on there for 5 hours or so.

Once past the first zone, and that's where it shines. It really is an absolute masterclass in world building, characters and storytelling. How it all comes together, the repercussions of your choices and the fact you can do your best to make the right decision, only to see it all go to st is fantastic...the "Bloody Baron" quest is a great example of this. But I'd never recommend it to fans of action games - they'll get frustrated by the combat. It's more to people who like story/text heavy stuff, 'cause there's a lot of chatting.

Games I didn't click with? Life is Strange. Odd, because (as above) I love story-based stuff, and really enjoyed Telltale's The Walking Dead, but I really disliked the high school approach. Shame.

Nah, it's just not a particularly good game. The story is bland. Half the time it's impossible to tell if they're trying to be funny or serious. (OK the 'botchling/lubberkin' sequence is pretty funny - but that's it). As an RPG there's not enough customisation of the character. Most of the story forks seem to lead to the same place. Cutscenes are far too long with dialogue that is very wordy whilst managing to say little.

Why is it held in such high esteem? Why do so many people like it?

Any Assassin's Creed and I've bought 3 of them. Just monotonous garbage although quite pretty in places.

Because I think the overall standard of games has dropped so much that stuff that wouldn't have held up to scrutiny before is heralded as amazing simply because it's the best there is on the market at the moment.

They have become very formulaic. Pretty graphics but often repetitive with no innovation

Nintendo has become a breath of fresh air, I wouldn't have looked twice at them a year ago but the Switch intrigued me as I was travelling a lot. And now I've played 3 of the best games I've ever played - Zelda, Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids

Witcher 3 - I made it to the point where you fight the girl on the tree (about 10minutes in) and lost the will to continue. Keep planning to try it again but always put it off,

Dragon Age Inquisition - I loved the first, disliked the second but found the third a real struggle to enjoy playing

Gran Turismo series - the vehicles always felt too slow for the claimed speed, much prefer the Forza series.

You’re playing the wrong games then; there are tons of indie titles on all platforms that offer various gameplay and stories. I’d say the above is true for AAA shooters, RPGs etc but there is good stuff out there, you just have to find it.

You should try the second one, the story is a lot better. Game is still tough on the higher difficulty settings though.

Watch Dogs - Just boring! Played about 2 hours and after buying and that was it.

Battlefield 1 - Crap maps, hated the online progression system and found it way too difficult to control weapons with enough accuracy to hit anything which meant having to re-load all the time during which I got killed!

GTA5 Online - Bought this on PS4 having not played it in ages after my 360 broke thinking online would be awesome. Made a character and then spent about an hour messing about before I got bored. Played through the story again instead and really enjoyed it!

Bought Overwatch on Prime for £25 today which i'm hoping will rekindle my love for online FPS. I used to spend hours on Battlefield Bad Company!

Same here. Loved the story, didn't love the online bit. Personally, I like games as an "escape" and don't see the attraction in playing with other people. My son (10) however loves it. Maybe it's an age thing?

Guess what... Another one for The Witcher 3. It's ok, but I struggled to get into it. I've made it to the city but stopped. I should give it another crack. It's certainly no Skyrim though.

And MGSV. This one actually makes me a bit angry. It was such an amazing series and should have ended with 4, then they st out the afterbirth that was V. What a load of crap. No story, no codec, no outrageously long cutscenes... Basically nothing that was iconic about the series. Open world didn't suit it and the missions were so repetitive I basically saw everything the game had to offer within the first couple of hours.

Then there was the online section...
