My dad is 69 and has just rediscovered the original doom after I installed my steam account in his computer. He’s got all the monkey island games to replay as well. I’ve even got him watching YouTube videos for tips + the custom maps where they have hundreds of sprites fighting each other.
This inspired me to get Doom II working again, and am enjoying a happy trip down memory lane. It's still good (much better than Doom, IMO)!

I'm almost 50 and I play games most evening whilst having a sherbet and the missus is downstairs watching Emmerdale and Corrie.

My first games were on a PET2001 ! The thing is, no matter how amazing games are now, they will never be as amazing as they were when I was 10.

I did the same the other week and lost a couple of hours playing Doom II. It's a better game than Doom, if only for the double barrel shotgun.

Age ratings on games are only a minimum age. So carry on until you can't anymore.

It's not like Lego where they define an upper limit...

Level design is the big difference.

I played Doom II first; when I played Doom I found the levels surprisingly primitive by comparison. The sequel makes a lot more use of height too.
