Mental. Be funny if you paid all that (£3k on a wheel) and were no better than a racer using a £100 wheel sitting at his desk on a wheelie chair. biggrin
To be fair not everyone does it to be better, its just more enjoyable. I have nothing like the above, more like £500 worth of stuff. Yet I'd still get wupped by a thousand kids on their game pads. I'd like to think I'm having more fun (at least that's how I justify it! biggrin)
That's true. I swear I'm no better using a wheel and pedals than with a gamepad.

I have a T500 which was quite an expensive wheel when first released, love it to bits but it doesn't make me quicker. Before Christmas it went in to be repaired, and I had a G29 to use while it was away. Literally no difference in my laptimes, if anything the lighter FFB made me quicker. Now I have the T500 back I'd much rather use that than the G29 every day of the week, jsut feels nicer overall.

I exepct stepping up to a direct drive wheel might be similar, I'm keeping an eye on kickstarter for a DD wheel because if it's for real it will be a bargain. My T500 would have to completely break before I'd even consider a full price upgrade to DD though I'd probably just go Fanatec if that happened.

Buy what you can afford and justify with man maths...cheap works fine.

I quite fancy trying one of those small cheap wheels that you can sometimes see on ebay or CEX. By small, I mean about 6 inches in diameter! No FFB, dual shock, though. If I'm ok using my gamepad, having that extra range of motion from a 180 degree lock-to-lock 6 inch wheel might be enough.

That said, I just bought Colin McRae Rally 3 for my PS2 and am really enjoying that with the wheel.

Taken delivery of my fanatic club sport shifter. What a unit. It is bloody huge and weighs a tonne. H pattern is fantastic, lovely feeling when shifting and engaging the gears. If you are driving 7 gear cars you have to push down for 7 not a problem with the cars I drive but would be a pain if you drive 7 gear cars.

Sequential again has a great feeling but the resistance is too much out of the box. I feel like I am fighting it up and down. I believe it can be adjusted though.

Overall a great bit of kit. I started with the g920 shifter, then the TH8A now the Club Sport. The G920 shifter is about as well built as my sons toys. The TH8A is a great shifter at that price. The Fanatec seems to be on a different league. I could have lived with the TH8A but I really wanted switching from H to Sq on the fly rather than faff with removing screws and plates and the fanatec does this. Also gives the option to mount the Fanatec Handbrake to the side of it so perfect for stand owners who want a shifter and handbrake but lack mounting options.

Only downside so far is the sequential knob. This is a known defect in that when screwed on there is a slight play in the knob. With the H pattern knob there is no play. wanted to mount my Sparco knob but I have lost the bloody plastic sleeve.

Do the OSW wheels require a lot of setting up and user input? I’m a bit of a numpty when it comes to computers etc which is one of the reasons I originally went for the fanatec wheel base as it’s pretty much plug and play.

These guys are reasonably priced and purchase includes an hour of one on one tech support to get it set-up and working, so could be worth considering?

To quote their website:

1-to-1 "Software Configuration Session" (1 hour) to setup up the wheel, walk you through the system and answer any questions you may have
