I'll probably upgrade to Nvidia's latest offering early next year, my GTX 1080 will be up for sale in that case if anyone's after one next year, I'll probably advertise it around the time

I have a 1070 at the moment, and it struggles with AAA games such as bfv and metro. My Cpu (an i5) may be slightly bottlenecking it, but I can confidently assume a 1060 will not be good enough for anything more than low settings and 60fps if youre lucky. A 1070, may just be good enough for low settings, but ill be looking to upgrade my pc in the next 6 months or so to 2080ti (once the next gen cards are out so i can get it cheaper ;p)

Rarely games have as much hype, but this warrents and given the team that are putting it together and the involvement of someone who's brung Cyberpunk media to the forefront of blockbuster movies.. I'd say well worth the outlay.

Just have to upgrade the PC to cope.. Windows 10.. and a 1060 or 1070GTX should cut it.

What resolution are you playing at? Nvidia recently enabled DXR lighting for non RTX cards, but the performance is horrendous, and both BFV and Metro support it - are you sure you've got those features turned off?

A 1070 should be able to maintain an average of over 60FPS at 1440p, and over 90FPS at 1080p on the Ultra preset. Metro: Exodus is more demanding but should still achieve 60+FPS on both resolutions with most settings on high.

A 1070 is perfectly fine for BFV and Metro. Minimum specs for BFV says GTX 660 or GTX 1050 and recommended is still only a GTX 1060. - https://i.redd.it/1sg4doml1kv11.jpg

What i5 CPU do you have?

Its a 6600k, which looks to be the minimum cpu required according to that screenshot. It looks like that is the weaklink in my pc

I'm beginning to think I'll need to upgrade too. Have a 1080 already but a CPU upgrade will doubtless also require a new motherboard and RAM. Better start saving some pennies!

Just checked and the base PC is now seven years old

Awesome, thanks for the website link, really useful this will be. I think ill get an i7 9700k which should futureproof me if i decide to upgrade my gpu in the next year or so. Question, I normally buy pre built, so is it a case of me just taking out my old cpu and putting in the new one (with new thermal paste )? will the pc boot up as normal but just be much faster or will i need to download new drivers or do anything in the motherboard settings?

If anyone is after an i5 6600k for cheap, hit me up!

As long as the CPU is of the same socket your motherboard supports, LGA1151 is your mobo socket and the i7 9700K is also LGA1151 so it will be just a case of following the guide for removal and insertion for that CPU that comes with it, correct orientation and clip down make sure you fit it cleanly and carefully, you don't want to bend any pins. Many, many, many, many, different types of advice on thermal paste, different brands, one small blob, a cross, spread it with the tool or use the cooler plate to squash it all down. Just don't put too much on and don't screw the CPU cooler down too tightly either.

If you are doing that have you thought about new cooling? just a thought, a quieter fan cooler, all in one water cooling?

No motherboard settings (bios) need to be changed if you haven't changed anything yourself as most thinks will be set to Auto as default. But you might want to check if there are any updates for it first though while you are doing this with the current CPU in, go to motherboard manufacturers website and have a look, follow instructions to update it. Reboot, shut down and then install the new CPU.

Good advice - that one has caught me out before. Put in the new CPU, found that the BIOS needed updating in order to work with it, motherboard was an older type that didn't have flash BIOS (this was a few years ago), had to put the old CPU back in, flashed the BIOS, put the new CPU back in, slipped, trashed the CPU socket, had to buy a new motherboard.
