Xbox one - intro for an old timer

thanks for the replies
I like my FPS like Halo, have pauses in between levels, bit of tactics as to approaching next battle, then fight, also not that interested in online just campaigns
The first WW2 COD was one of my favorites, think I gave up on COD: Modern Warfare as I got stuck on a particular level
I had to google PUBG - is this good fun on your own?

Forza 7 has local multiplayer so would be good you and your daughter - horizon doesn't have this.
good to know - think I may get both, and then I am good for driving games, especially if MS make Burnout 3 backward compatible (big dumb fun) - maybe I will just spend a few quid on Burnout ParadiseI like my FPS like Halo, have pauses in between levels, bit of tactics as to approaching next battle, then fight, also not that interested in online just campaigns

The wolfenstein games are brilliant, and the new DOOM is well worth a play through.
The two new (and third forthcoming) Tomb Raiders are great, good story and well put together, a really nice reboot to the series...both the wife and I have played all the way through both.
I would also say that GTA V is pretty much a "must play" title, the single player is hours of fun, and multiplayer is a good laugh too.
some more for the wish list, I actually know what they are too The two new (and third forthcoming) Tomb Raiders are great, good story and well put together, a really nice reboot to the series...both the wife and I have played all the way through both.

Halo is ok, not played enough of it to be able to rate it though. With that in mind Fallout and also Homefront I think you will enjoy.
If you loved the first COD then you will love this one too, it is so, so good.
I have never played PUBG if I am honest but heard nothing but good reviews of it
Have a look at Rocket League. Ridiculously addictive and cheap too. It's all I play on at the moment. There's a bit of a learning curve, but you can either mess about on the Rumble mode or get into the competitive games where you can rank up. It also has split screen online multiplayer so you can team up with your daughter.
PUBG is online only, so depends on how much you enjoy playing online FPS...it's tricky but addictive, and good for a short burst as the average round only lasts 5-15 minutes.
I can recommend loads more (i'm very choosy about what i play), so just have a look into these and see what you might enjoy-
Alien Isolation (probably the best FPS i have played in the last 10 years, survival horror at its purest)
Metal gear solid V the phantom pain
The witcher 3: wild hunt
Tekken 7/Mortal Kombat X - good for local 2 player, me and the missus enjoy a good beat em up session
SUPERHOT - very unique single player FPS, well worth playing, very strategy heavy and addictive
Farcry 5 - very good, and even moreso if you haven't played 3 and 4 (they tend to be farily formulaic, but if this is your first visit to the series it's a great entry point)
Life is strange - slower paced point and click affair, gripping story and episodic game play, probably the most emotive game i've played.

Ive been tempted by both Farcry 5 and Witcher 3 - I think I might have to invest in these ASAPI can recommend loads more (i'm very choosy about what i play), so just have a look into these and see what you might enjoy-

I'm similar, have a 9yo daughter and managed to get her an Xbox for Xmas.....
Do take a look at the Lego games (Harry Potter, Batman, Indiana Jones, etc), they're great for playing together, and there's a good amount of working out how to complete the levels.
Forza 7 is very good, and I've sometimes lost a few hours when everyone's gone to bed with it.
Forza Horizon 2 is in this month's Games with Gold

Sorry for all the dumb questions
I am sitting here watching Halo 5 painfully download, it has copied the 42gb disc and is now part way through downloading 56gb of “network”. What is network and why is it bigger than the damn disc?

42gb is basically the game on the day it shipped, the 56gb is all the extra patches, content and updates released since.I am sitting here watching Halo 5 painfully download, it has copied the 42gb disc and is now part way through downloading 56gb of “network”. I oscillate between Destiny 2 and various Fallout games (mostly 4), as D2 is pretty frantic playing PvP, whilst Fallout means I can just amble around doing whatever.
Would recommend Hitman GOTY version which is on offer on Gold, as it requires a bit of thought and planning, especially to get the Challenges. It's pretty one-paced as an idea, but beautifully executed IMO, plus it's another that you can chill out on, with no one hassling you or feeling like you need to rush.
This coming from a 50 year old whose progression went PS>N64>PS2>Xbox>360>One>One X, since I don't know when.

I'm a little obsessed with Rocket League at the moment, putting in the hours in free mode and casual to get the practice in before trying competitive. Watching full on pro's play is ridiculous but these guys are PC gamers who spend hours on modded maps practising car control for aerials.
