Started 76 last night - 3 hours in I'm at level 8.

So far, I'm really enjoying it. So far the only bugs I've encountered have been a couple of server disconnects, but otherwise it's been fine on Ultra with my 1070.

Although the map is huge, there are plenty of locations to explore, and lots of quest lines to follow if you want. Combat is fun - I've found a melee weapon, shotgun and sniper rifle covers most eventualities (I did have one hilarious moment being chased by 12 feral ghouls). I've also found the survival aspects (eating/drinking/weapon damage) to be less of a problem than I expected.

So overall, for £30, I'm happy.

It's still Fallout, just with none of the things that makes Fallout good

One thing I don't like is that they have changed the crafting since FO4, now it appears you cannot remove a mod and fit it to another weapon. I wanted to combine the two best parts of separate 10mm pistols but couldn't find a way to do it. Now I have go around collecting bloody scrap, just to upgrade the gunsight on one of them.

That's a bit st! That was one of the things I liked about Fo4, and it was lore-friendly too.

You may not have the skills to create a scope, but if you find one then any monkey can gaffer tape / zip tie it to another weapon.

You get weapon mods by scrapping them - after you've killed a load of enemies, collect the weapons and scrap them all.

Up to level 6 and enjoying it more than I thought I would, apparently the nukes can be gamed which is a bit annoying. Ammo seems scarce so going to put some effort into melee perks which I never usually do in the 'proper' Fallout games. The way the maps work seems fairly well thought out, with lots of instances so you'll run across different players each time as I understand it.

Only gripe - I'm on PC and everyone else I know that might buy it is on console so I'm clomping around like Billy-No-Mates laugh

You can blame Sony for that.

Yeah, I heard. Maybe a PH group or set of groups would be an idea? I don't mind being a Lone Wanderer but when a pack of Scorched leg it out of a house after you and you're armed only with a weedy pipe pistol it is a bit harsh on the underwear. Plus I've seen what's waiting for you the further you get into the map so might have to grind it up a bit before going too far in.

Well the enjoyment didn't last - I'm going off this game rapidly, for the simple reason that fusion cores are so difficult to get hold of.

They have a lot to fix, even if it's possible to fix with an engine not designed to be a multiplayer online game - https://www.reddit.com/r/fo76/comments/9u71m1/get_...

They have bodged the PC speed hack by limiting frame rates to 63 fps.

Watched this last night and it raised a smirk.

I do think Bethesda dropped a bk with this game.

But whatever, it will probably sell well enough and then get ported and endlessly rereleased for the next 10 years.

I've played all the Fallout games and was still looking forward to this despite the comments online.

Unfortunately it took 27 attempts to get past the character creation screen (which involved reducing the graphics settings to a barely usable VGA level and reinstalling graphics drivers, thunderbolt drivers, etc.). This is despite the same machine running a dozen or so other games without issue at 2560x1440 on an i7 4790k with 32GB RAM, 4GB GPU and 512GB internal SSD.

Finally got past the character creation screen, and over another 10 attempts I finally got out of the vault.

Probably got an hour of actually gaming done over the whole weekend before putting it away until next weekend.

Hopefully some of today's patches will help?

I enjoyed FO3 and New Vegas much more than FO4. FO4 seemed less of a game to me than FO4 and the story wasn't as engaging.

As soon as I learned of the multiplayer aspect of 76 it put me off. I really don't know why Bethesda have gone down this route as I doesn't suit the FO franchise at all. Maybe it's just to get the kids onboard. Screw the fans of the original stuff.
I'm with you on that. FO4 - half an hour in, at the town and... let's see, what';s on the mission menu? WTF? I have to collect 5 f*ing fans and a fuse? I want to play an immersive game, not spend my entire time crafting and upgrading. I gave up after 90 minutes.

Not sure that F76 is that much better, from what I understand. I'll watch some gameplay videos however I'm not keep to spend the money for an hour and a half's gameplay.

Speaking as a long term Fallout and Oblivion fan I liked Fallout 4. Although I liked the weapon and armour making/maintenance part of New Vegas.
Fallout 76 doesn't appeal to me and from the various reports can't see me buying it.
What I would like is a massive world which combined aspects of both New Vegas and Fallout 4 I'd buy it.
As a stop gap I'm into Red Dead 2 but I dislike the storyline and you can't free roam like Fallout or Skyrim. So I'll just carry on with it and hope they do a patch for those who like free roaming play with nothing locked because of not completing a less than appealing main storyline.

For some balance, I absolutely hated the BETA and regretted purchasing the full game, but I've given it some serious hours over the weekend and I am really enjoying it. I don't think I'd enjoy it half as much on my own though, I have been playing with a friend for the most part. I have always preferred Elders Scrolls over Fallout, and I really hated New Vegas (but enjoyed 3&4)

The upgrading, perks and crafting all add a level of hardness and gives you a sense of actually achieving something, while the hunger and thirst force you to ensure you're stocked up otherwise your health and stamina will take a big hit.

We've killed a few legendary creatures, taken over a few workshops and killed the oncoming waves of enemies and we've also just walked around exploring the map, but all in all I'm really enjoying it. It's really weird questing and killing enemies with your mates, as we've only ever had companions to help us out in previous games.

Up to level 19 now and will hopefully get some more hours in over the course of the week.

I've given it a good crack now (up to level 34 - just saw someone on my server at 70, he's going some!) and still enjoying it.

The stash limit still annoys me, hopefully they'll bump it up a bit in future, I feel it's really counter to the hoarding/crafting nature of the game.

Encountering a few too many enemies that are inactive while on visual range, and sometimes don't pop into life until you're almost on top of them, though the instances of such seem less common after this patch.

Ammo isn't too bad, though it'd be good to be able to scrap one type for lead to use in making another (maybe you can and I haven't found it yet). One of the workshops you can take over at the north of the map is an ammunition factory.

The missions with a bit more backstory etc to them are my preference, I think the Riverside Manor stuff is the one I've liked most so far (no spoilers - find a dead young woman with a "worn veil" in her inventory and take things from there).

The black powder rifle is great for running around playing at being a post-apocalyptic Richard Sharpe. Powerful, too.

Quick question for anyone who has beta tested it on PC to test the sanity of Bethesda.

Does the console still work, you know the one you can type in commands to boost your stats, get free weapons, upgrades, materials, unlock doors and the rest of the cheats? Just wondering, it's one of those game engine things that they always seem to leave in.
Nope - console is disabled.

Absolutely loved the previous Fallout games and put hours and hours into them.
As soon as I heard this was multiplayer I decided not too buy unless it could be played pretty much as a single player experience.
That video isn't great tbh.

Real shame to ruin a good series.

I think I will stick with RDR2 and have another look when it gets patched/cheaper.
