The Outer Worlds - space RPG

That Vice quote is weird. They're saying that Bethesda has ruined that type of game so they're going to ignore this game made by the people who made the best (imo) 3D Fallout?
Created a character and played about half an hour before I had to leave this morning. Liking what I've seen so far and I'm looking forward to getting more into it tonight.

What DRM system does this use under PC? It's showing up as unavailable until next year on Steam.
I believe this is something to do with Epic games grabbing exclusive rights to games. Something we used to see on console (platform exclusives), but we now unfortunately see on pc.You can get it now but you need to install the Epic games launcher. Pain in the arse if you use Steam a lot, like I do.
I am tempted by this game though so may just put up with it. I enjoyed New Vegas a lot.
Not sure of DRM.

Thanks! That was the info I wanted. funkyrobot said:

I really just meant "what launcher / purchase platform do I need for this"? And you've answered that - thanks!I think I will wait for now and wait for the price to fall and maybe for it to come out on Steam. I'm fed up with having to install new launchers. On my old PC I had Steam, Origin, and uPlay but when I rebuilt my PC I have so far only needed to install Steam again and I'd be happier to keep it that way.

The EpicGames launcher is worth having because they give you free games every couple of weeks, some of which (definitely not all) are actually worth having. The thing is Steam had things great and that was more-or-less all you needed but they got greedy and, understandably, games developers have got fed up with the percentage they cream off. I believe I read that EpicGames would bin their launcher if Steam reduced their cut. But they haven't and now quite a lot of games are exclusive with EpicGames for a period (and, not sure, but I think you will need Rockstar's launcher for Red Dead 2 on PC, at least initially).jtremlett said:

Thanks. That's worth knowing. I just checked and Outer Worlds is £49.99 right now, and there is no way I am paying that for it when I know it will tumble in price in a few months time. I'll wait for now.

You will need the launcher to run them but in the meantime until you do you won't miss out on anything you are interested in.

Finished everything I could find on Halcyon - moving on tomorrow.
Now I've got the hang of it, going to spend more time wandering around looking for trouble / things to do.
Enjoying it so far, especially as on Game Pass. If i'm brutally honest, if I'd paid full price at a regular outlet, with no discount, I may be tempted to think I'd overpaid, based on play so far. It so clearly Fallout / Skyrim derived (not a bad "thing"), with little new "mechanics", that I might think it was nothing new.
That said 3 1/2 hours flew by, so it must be doing something right.

Is this worth £37.99?
Bear in mind I loved Fallout New Vegas.
Or do I re-install Fallout 4, wait for the price of this to go down then commit?
My thoughts exactly as I have a PS4, I have restarted Fallout 4 again recently after replaying New Vegas to death. Bear in mind I loved Fallout New Vegas.

Although you don't get quite the excitement of the initial play I've done it with a completely different way of doing things from the last game, I enjoy the stealth side this time as It's a good first person shooter.
Couldn't get on with Read Dead and gave up. I just wish that they would just release a triple sized expansion to the existing world as it is with maybe a few more but different enemies I'd buy it.

TOW has less depth, and is far less serious than any of the (recent) Fallout series.
It's more colourful, closer to Bioshock, than the drab palettes of Fallout and Skyrim - the gameplay is closer to Bioshock as well.
Playing thru on Normal at the moment & it's pretty easy, but that doesn't mean it's not entertaining.
If you treat it as a game it's pretty good. If you want to spend the weekend building and customising a dwelling (which you can't do in TOW!), then clearly not the game for you.

The dwelling aspect of Fallout 4 never kept me entertained for that long. I think I'll get this tonight TOW has less depth, and is far less serious than any of the (recent) Fallout series.
