The dwelling aspect of Fallout 4 never kept me entertained for that long. I think I'll get this tonight
The Settlements aspect of Fo4 was half-baked at best. However, the mod "Sim Settlements" massively improves and extends it, to the extent that it is almost a game in itself. It's worth revisiting Fo4 with Sim Settlements installed, as it is hours of fun in itself.

Cheers for the heads up on that mod. It's worth revisiting Fo4 with Sim Settlements installed, as it is hours of fun in itself.

Thanks for that. Can you install these mods on a Steam copy of the game?
Yes, you can. I was running via Steam and installed it with the almost ubiquitous Nexus Mod Manager. See

Last time I installed a Bethesda game I decided to use Mod Organiser. It installs all mods to a different place and doesn't touch your game folders and you can easily turn mods on and off and change load orders and also the order in which the mod is activated (if it has no plugin or does) so you can make one mod overwrite some files of another if you need it to. With Nexus Mod Manager when you install a mod that has to overwrite another it physically overwrites it, to change it you have to reinstall both in the order you want, so can be a bit of a mess to keep control of.
Mod Organiser 2 - https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mod...
Ps, Outer Worlds on Nexus mods already - https://www.nexusmods.com/theouterworlds

NMM has been replaced by Vortex, and if you want to enhance Fallout 4, add the Fusion City Rising, Outcasts and Remnants and Project Valkyrie - they'll add another 10 or so hours to the game. I'm currently replaying it with about 50 mods.See

I’m up to lvl 18 now, been playing quite a lot over the weekend.
Playing as a stealthy sniper type but I’ve put a lot into the dialog skills as I knew it would have a pretty big influence.
I’m loving it so far. Jim Sterling said it felt like the game they wanted to make with New Vegas and I would agree with that. In feel it’s somewhere between Fallout, Bioshock and Borderlands.
I feel like they could’ve made the combat a bit harder though. I’m no Dark Souls masochist but I’m playing on normal and I’ve not really had any big challenges yet. Even the big monsters have gone down pretty easily.

Lvl 25, Normal (mostly heavy armour) & you're right; it is pretty easy.Playing as a stealthy sniper type but I’ve put a lot into the dialog skills as I knew it would have a pretty big influence.

After been thru it once, I'm hoping that harder levels mean far less of a breeze.
But is growing on me & there's new scope and areas opening up all the time.
Only managed a couple hours yesterday but I'm really enjoying it so far. I'd made a decision I didn't want to (At the end of the first mission, who goes and who stays sorta thing) but I'll live with that.
Observations:
I agree with the fallout/bioshock/borderlands comparison. No bad thing, though.
The POV is a bit tight, getting used to it but could be doing with being slightly wider.
The graphics on the standard Xbox One aren't amazing. Not bad but the characters look straight out of fallout 3.
The gun play is good, it can sometimes be a bit tricky tracking enemies outside, though.
It's fun, genuinely didn't want to put the controller down last night, I'm hoping the map opens up a bit after the first town but I'm really enjoying it.

Having finished a play through of FO3 not long ago I’d say the graphics are much nicer, stuff like hair and beard textures are much better and the animation is rock solid. They’ve obviously went for a style that works with unreal 4 which is getting a bit creaky now.
Apart from the usual unreal texture pop the game runs perfectly as well. They’ve obviously put the time in where it counts.
I appreciate the amount of exploration you can do in areas without loading screens.

Looks interesting, but I might wait till I can get it for cheap.
I absolutely adore the fallout series and I think I enjoyed FO: New Vegas the most (Which is Obsidian), but I also liked Fallout 4. Never bothered with 76 because of the on-line/multiplayer aspect, and it seems like a total dumpster fire.
But, watching the videos of TOW, I can't tell if I am going to like it. I think, if anything, its really the retro-futurism of FO that really draws me in as much as the game itself. I just love that 50's futurism !

I am the same. Although, having said that, I loved Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, and also Prey. So, maybe I will like Outer Worlds too.

I guess the best parallel is Firefly with a strong Douglas Adams or Red Dwarf influence?
