The public beta this weekend, do i need to download a new copy of the game or is there just a patch to download?

On PS4, it was just a patch on top of the private beta download

I never played the first game. I played the beta (demo) yesterday and it seems a bit st to me. Why do half the enemies run towards you with a stick? AI seems really poor with enemies running around for no reason. I don't think it's for me.

Trust me, the shock baton rushers are far better than the 1 shot shotgunner rushers from the first game!! The rushers are generally to stop you from camping in one position and getting too comfortable.

In the little I played of the open beta at the weekend (only completed the first mission and a few bits of random open world stuff), I found the AI to be far better than the Division 1, with enemies flanking me, often from unexpected places. I found the enemy armour and 'tankiness' to be at a much better level than even the private beta a few weeks ago. Red bar enemies should aways die when you empty an entire clip of ammunition into them, there should be no exceptions to this rule and that appears to be the case now. Gunplay felt excellent as always.

Overall, I've seen enough to confirm my purchase...I have a feeling I'll be losing a lot of hours to this game shoot

That's the thing that annoyed me about the first one tbh, at times the tankiness was just right then wham you walk into an area where even the normal enemies are taking 3 clips to take down. I don't usually mind this game mechanic if it's done right but it always felt like I was under-powered or should be playing with a squad of other people ALL the time to make the game fair, which isn't always possible.

As long as you knew where the 'dangerous' (ie. above your current level) areas where, sometimes it was a fun challenge to head over there and see how long you can survive, which was usually not very long in my case hehe I think there needs to be an element of that so you can go back when you've levelled up a bit.

I have been impressed that they've made so many changes based player feedback from the private beta in such a short space of time. It bodes very well for the ongoing support that there will be for this game. Excerpt from the patch notes:-

Decreased Jefferson Trade Center boss’ armor and damage.
Decreased enemy health/armor in co-op while also slightly increasing enemy lethality.
Decreased Veteran/Elite Rushers’ Armor by half.
Decreased armor plating “health” of the Grand Washington Hotel boss on Story mode only.
Decreased health of early game Hyena NPCs.
Decreased armor plating “health” for the Underground Tank.
Decreased the lethality and health/armor of enemy NPCs in the world tiers.

Plus, the fact that they have (finally!) separated the sandbox betweeen PvP and PvE is a literal game changer. At long last they can improve one without inherently ruining the other.

Played a good bit of both betas and thought the public one showed good improvement. I do have a bit of a concern that it won't have much longevity - if you can easily reach level 8 in a weekend to get to level 30 isn't going to take long - I know there is a whole load of stuff in the end game but even so..

It was a pretty impressive way to run betas though, I wonder how many people they won over - maybe it will encourage other companies to do "proper" betas in the future.

Nicked from a reddit thread, once you reach level 30 and have completed the campaign stuff you go in to a tier system which is basically a takeover of the city. This is based on a podcast/youtube video from massive.

All of this is on top of 3 planned updates for the first year.

Video is : https://youtu.be/ARdAtyLuQFA?t=810

Strongholds vs. Missions

Strongholds are vastly bigger, and meaner, than missions. Strongholds will be important to the plot development of the game and are extremely significant. Missions will need to be completed before attempting Strongholds. The concept of Strongholds are introduced very early on in the main campaign, but the concept becomes ramped up in the Endgame.

What happens when you hit level 30?

During the main campaign you'll be working thru a bunch of Missions and a handful of Strongholds to get to the final Stronghold that remains locked until you reach level 30. At that point, it will be unlocked and revealed. Once that final Stronghold is completed, World Tier 1 is unlocked, Tidal Basin is revealed and the living world will completely change.

Previously established control points that you've captured suddenly become dynamic as the Black Tusk faction comes into play and factions are pushed into the open world. Previously established fast travel locations are no longer available and must be re-established. Most importantly, due to the influx of the Black Tusk, Specializations are introduced because "you're gonna need a bigger gun.", and you're vastly weaker in relation to the new faction.

World Tiers 1-3 Unlocked

3 Strongholds, that were previously faction based Strongholds, will now be repopulated with Black Tusk and need to be retaken. Those will have 2 invaded missions that are tied to each Stronghold.
After completing the first Stronghold, you'll progress to the next World Tier 2. Finishing the second will push you into World Tier 3 and finishing the last of the 3 Strongholds will push you into World Tier 4.

"The Snitch" & The Deck of 52 becomes active
52 Named bosses, each faction matching a suit, that will award you loot and commendations for "completing the deck" and getting their cards. They won't spawn again until your deck is complete.

Cassie Mendoza "The Gun Runner" is revealed
A roaming random spawn vendor that cycles every day and a half that will have special loot/guns that scale to your World Tier.

World Tier 4

Priority Target Network - An interconnected set of 7 tiered Bounties inside of different named zones that scale in difficulty as you progress thru them (progression similar to the "hard", "challenging" & "heroic" ways that were familiar to players in TD1).

Bounties (this is not endgame, but was discussed after the Priority Target Network to explain how they happen)
During the campaign you'll meet Otis Sykes and you'll get access to bounties that you spend Target Intel to play.
Target Intel is garnered thru mission completion and endgame content.

A final Stonghold "Tidal Basin" will need to be completed to move into World Tier 5

World Tier 5

TBD later - gotta keep you guessing and excited.
edit: also found this info sheet, its huge, so need to view & zoom http://static2.ubi.com/pxm/TCTD/AG/TD2/Assets/Info...

Same here, I know the game got knocked a lot and they fixed a lot of issues with it, probably after I bailed on it, but that was my issue.

It worked like a lot of mobile games to me, you basically played the same thing over and over, it didn't really become more challenging or exciting, you just levelled up weapons and armour to the appropriate point.

The gold edition has been available since Tuesday has no one played it yet? All year 1 DLC appears to be free so I am going to buy the basic version tomorrow as there seems to be no incentive to get the more expensive gold version.

So, I finally got on last night after the initial 3 hr day 1 patch download!

First impressions? Apart from a few issues with the sound lagging (there are few things as unsatisfying as firing a weapon that makes no noise!), my overall impression is that the game is excellent!

I did a couple of the main missions, which were the same ones that were in the beta. I enjoyed them as much this time round, if not more - at least this time round I get to keep the loot smile Other than that, I've just been exploring the world, taking over control points, upgrading the theatre etc. and just generally getting a feel for the game.

All the weapons feel fantastic to use. ARs seem to be the best primary again but, every gun variant feels very solid. LMGs no longer kick like a bronco, shotguns feel awesome, rifles are very solid, marksman rifles too although, they're far more situational. Hell, even my level 1 pistol was useful last night!

The graphics in HDR are simply stunning, Washington looks and feels alive. The world is very well realised and genuinely feels like it is lived in and you're just a visitor.

All the stats/talents/gear sets etc. are as confusing as ever but, it wouldn't be the Division if I had any idea what any of them did at the beginning.

I'm hooked already - I'll be investing a lot of time into this thumbup

Are you doing the main missions alone or matchmaking or playing with friends. I have only played for about an hour so not really got an idea about how difficult the game is.

Does anybody know if you can change the HUD colour? I am struggling to see it properly, I can change the size and position but not transparency. I was drunk though so it mat bebetter when I am sober.

I did the first one solo. The next one was done as a duo and the third in a team of three. I am fortunate enough to have a healthy PSN list of like-minded layabout reprobates who have yet to come up with a good enough reason to stop me from joining their team biggrin . Mind you, I regularly matchmade with randoms in Division 1 without issue, even for legendary missions.

Difficulty-wise, I would say things seem pretty well balanced. The enemy armour/difficulty scales with the size of the team I think so, all three missions felt like roughly the same sort of challenge.

We did at one point stray into an area for which we were slightly underlevelled (A level 26 side mission....we were all level 5 at the time !) Let's just say that it was over swiftly, and that it did not go well for us hehe

Not sure if you can change the reticle colour - seems okay to me as it is the same as Division 1

I got a good hour on it earlier solo and the HUD now seems ok, It must have been because I was a bit drunk last night haha. Enjoyed what I have played so far and will hopefully get a decent run at it tomorrow. Currently a lowly level 3.

I've started a clan on PS4 (I assume they are different on each platform), just press square and search by name for "Pistonheads".

You need to do the "Viewpoint" mission first and then go to the settlement and recruit Grace Larson before you can join any clan.

Skills and skill cooldowns are completely bugged and broken at the moment. How do you launch with a broken core gameplay system? Perhaps Anthem wasn't such an anomaly after all.

Other than broken skills, first impression are generally good.
