I enjoyed it much more than the rdr games, I think because it doesn’t take itself so seriously.

I’ve never been a fan of the rdr games though. I find the pace of them soporofically slow.

You're probably about half way through the main storyline, you're going to start being able to attempt the big clear out side missions now though. I spent about ten hours getting the Sawmill done laugh
Christ, if this is the halfway point, this is absurdly leaden. There's slow burn and there's Days Gone. The game is definitely starting to suffer from Ubusoft open world bloat. I might just start skipping the nests and enemy camps and plough for the finish line. The plot is certainly better than the gameplay.

Soon you will get some interesting "firepower", quite literally........ Totally worth continuing the story though...

Thank fk for that, because trying to take down hordes with assault rifles and grenades is a total pain in the arse. The game was better when it was more survival horror and less Left 4 Dead.

I do remember my first playthrough being very slow, due to being quite vulnerable, and still learning the game mechanics.

Later on, with some character upgrades and better weapons, and not having to stop for fuel every 5 minutes, the pace picked up a bit.

Playing on NG+ is a whole different kettle of molotov-flambéd fish; much, much pacier.

Play the game as you would in this situation, don't attempt to take on a horde until you're fully prepared, as Jase said you're close to getting some interesting firepower now, but until you get some really good stuff, when it comes to hordes just run away.

I still think this is one of the best games on PS4, have played it through 3 times now completing all side quests also (but that's just how I play Open World stuff). I just really hope they do a sequel.

Unlikely to ever happen as it didn't really take off until Sony gave it away for free and the PC launch. I blame the marketing tbh, I thought it was an action game for folk who watch too much sons of anarchy but it's better than that. The devs have said they would've loved to make another one but they don't think it'll happen.

I would've liked to know where it was going when you find out that the army guy you've been speaking to is infected

As others have said don't bother trying to do the nests until you have some high tier weapons. Molotovs are much more useful than grenades for the zombies or whatever they're called.

It was a pacing issue away from being a bit of a classic. It is still the only game I have Platinum trophy for.

That’s officially a “no” I’m afraid. Canned due to underperforming sales driven by good-but-not-great reviews at the time.

I think it reveals its greatness too slowly for the gaming crowd that wants more immediacy.

I think I’ve 100% it about 6 times now…

The story is just superb.

Up there with The Last of Us to me, in fact I'd say it pips it, mainly due to that one scene with the haunting music.....

It's definitely the game that got me to go back and have another go at more of the Playstation exclusive games. Thoroughly enjoyed TLOU 1&2 I wasn't as fussed about the others I played, Horizon Zero Dawn and Ghosts of Tsushima.

Agreed! one of the only games that gives me certain anxiety and feelings especially dealing with the hordes!

I finished this yesterday. I'd say the later acts of the game in the southern portion of the map are considerably shorter than those in the northern region. If you meet the militia you're not that far from the end.

I was disappointed that there wasn't a flamethrower. A lot of the weapons feel useless too, like the hunting and sniper rifles, too slow and limited on ammo to be useful against human enemies and utterly useless against hordes. The shooting mechanics are use bad all round tbh, it feels nice, the guns feel impactful, but it relies on slowing time down to function in the same way RDR2 did because the mechanics are so loose.

Fighting the hordes is definitely the worst part of the game. Visually impressive, buy silly and annoying from a gameplay perspective. The game felt much more at home with a slower pace, survival horror-esque feel early on, before you have an LMG, a Thompson and all manner of proximity bombs.

The story was good and the characters were interesting. I never really felt like Deacon was a bad ass MC club enforcer, but him was likeable and Boozer was a good character too. The ending was satisfactory and the secret ending which set up the sequel was intriguing too. Sadly, I think the slow pace at which the story develops is probably the reason that so few people have finished it, out of all those who played it.

I think the sequel will probably never come now, unless another publisher decides to take it on as Sony seem uninterested in it, likely due to the long and slow development cycle, lukewarm critical response and apparently underwhelming sales. A shame, because you can see how much work went into making the game, but it just didn't come out of the oven feeling quite as excellent as other Sony stuff like Ghost of Tsushima or Horizon.

Can't get into TLOU. I seem to run out of steam at the clickers.

I think this will start my 5th playthrough.

I was the same, I got to the bit where you have to sneak through the subway station about 4 times and sacked it off. Something just clicked with those games after playing Days Gone, similar gameplay mechanics in a lot of ways I guess (crafting, using stealth and traps etc).

I'm really thinking about going back for a NG+ game of Days Gone now but I have like 4 games on the go at the moment laugh.

The story of TLOU is the key..It really drew me in.. Clickers - dodge and shiv......Use hearing a LOT...

Days Gone also has a superb story IMHO with a great twist or two... And as I said above, a very haunting song ....

Definitely this game has strong 'The Last of Us' vibes to it. However, it's Open World as opposed to a series of setpieces in a linear path, which has plusses and minuses.

However, I recently got the PC version on a deal (I already had the PS4 version but never really got into it) and I'm really enjoying the story and most of the gameplay so far. It can plod along quite slowly at the start of the game, the initial guns are very weak and unsatisfying and there are still some weird story glitches/bugs.

Despite all that, there's enough good stuff in there to hook me. I have a decent PC so performance is a solid 60fps when streamed to my TV (it's actually 120Hz refresh when played directly on the PC) and detail levels are pretty much maxed out for a great picture quality. I might go and start a game on my PS4 Pro to see how it plays there, once I'm done on the PC. Not sure I'd be happy with 30fps and occasional jumps/stutters though.

The 'survival' aspect (collect resources and craft stuff) does feel a little half baked in some ways. It makes sense for home made weapons/mods and medical supplies but it is annoying to have to worry about fuel for the bike (which seems to have a range of about 3km on a full tank) and also the constant need to fix melee weapons and the bike - which all seem to have the durability of an easter egg. I get the impression that they maybe wanted to be even more surivival-heavy but were told to throttle it back at some stage in development so we get a lot of those older mechanics left in the game.

That said, once you open fast travel to various locations the fuel thing becomes a lot less annoying as everywhere you can fast travel to will have refuelling there. Bike upgrades give you a little more free-roaming range too but not much. Also, just found out about re-uping ammo at the weapons lockers which takes some of the annoyance out of the limited amount of ammunition you can carry (even with bike upgrade).
