I will give it a go tonight and hopefully kill them all before I give up.
When I did it last (I've completed the game four times now), I got lost somehow and the zombies could not find me, nor I them. I spent about 20 minutes running about trying to find them to complete the horde..... If you are out of ammo etc then try to get more with bombs especially in caves as you can get quite a few at a time as a rule.... The first few times I did it I just killed the Reacher (I say "just"...) and then RLF away from the horde and out of the cave.
Top tip: when playing NG+ the taser weapon is the best way to get rid of solo Reachers if you can't sneak up behind them; although it's otherwise useless apart from comedy value.

OK, well pissed off. Game has bugged out on me with an uncompletable mission - Better to Light One Candle. Doesn't correctly mark the destination point, just puts it inside the camp that I'm supposed to start the mission from. If I go to the place where I know the mission is supposed to take place - nothing.
I did a bit of Googling and the only solution was to go back and load an old save but apart from one a few hours before (which still has the bugged mission set) the only other one is two days of real time ago and god knows how many hours of gameplay. FFS. That bug was discovered back in 2019 on the Playstation and still not fixed. No wonder people were so sour on the game - seems like it was even buggier back then.
Well, that's me done with it. Too bad as it was building really nicely but I have no tolerance for this kind of buggy rubbish.

.. errr right.... Well I'd put so many hours into this that I did end up going back to a pretty old save and replaying, taking the mission as soon as it appeared instead of doing a few others first. Luckily the missions are much easier to do when you've been through them before but not happy to have put the best part of a day's avaialble gaming time just to get around a bug.I did a bit of Googling and the only solution was to go back and load an old save but apart from one a few hours before (which still has the bugged mission set) the only other one is two days of real time ago and god knows how many hours of gameplay. Now I'm doing full saves frequently instead of relying on quicksave so any backtracking due to future bugs should be minimal.
Still miffed at the bugs - I've seen all sorts of weirdness to do with missions, usually them not triggering unless you show up on the bike, at the exact point where it wants you to ride to ... if you get off an approach on foot often it doesn't trigger. This happened to me in a cave complex where I wanderd around for 20mins wondering WTF I was supposed to do before going back to my bike and having it all trigger when I rode past. Also had random encounters where the person I've saved from bandits doesn't respond.
Given how much more buggy this was at release, I can see why it didn't do as well as hoped. On a decent PC with current version it is definitely worth considering but you need to make sure you are frequently saving.
It's strange how you've had so many bugs - I've played on PS4/5 and had none. The only slight discrepancy I've had is on the first horde mission when apparently you can sneak under a gap in a house wall to gain access to a roof from which you can open up on the horde without them being able to reach you. In my game the gap was blocked by chairs but I've seen play throughs where the gap is clear.

The house in question has always been accessible on my PS4 version. You get to go into it once and then the chairs fall behind you and block it off. I think it’s there to make the mission to test the napalm Molotovs a bit easier if needed. Maybe you went into the house in question earlier in the game?Like others, i don’t remember significant bugs but I’m sure that’s no consolation to Lucas.

You go through the front and the chairs fall behind to allow you to stay in the house safely and go out onto the ledge to attack the horde...There is a little animation IIRC of the chairs..PhilboSE said:

I think that was the issue. I visited the house before the mission and although it didn’t trigger a cut scene, when I went back the chairs had already fallen. benny.c said:

All good for me, chairs fell as I entered the house. Took me a few minutes to workout that I needed to go through the upstairs window to get out.Playing on a PS5 is that makes any difference.

I'm about 10 hours into this now, I was enjoying it initially, but it's got really samey very quickly.
I carried on far too long based on the reports that said it gets better. It did get to a point where I started to understand some of the characters, and the story seemed to be reaching a conclusion. Then things progress to a new area of the map, and a whole new set of characters.
I still carried on for a while. Figured I’ve stuck with it this far, so might as well persevere.
But eventually got to the point where I really couldn’t take anymore of the joyless repetitive game populated with characters I don’t care about.
Just my opinion.

The bugs - even though I'm playing the PC version years after the PS4 original was released - are annoying though. As I've got a decent PC, no issues with performance but I gather that was a problem on PS4 hardware at release time. So I can see why the game got a lukewarm reception when it came out. I would still recommend it for PC (and probably PS5) now if you like those big Far-Cry type open world games.
