I'm not sure what exactly available for the Xbox, but AFAIK it's only stuff that is in the in game marketplace that you can get. The PC has stuff sold on third party websites,as well as free stuff. The marketplace doesn't have anything with weapons, for example. You might get special civvie versions but I'm not sure.
The Turtle beach yoke is the only one that is Xbox compatible, but it's mega bucks

Thanks Kowalski...I did a bit of digging over the weekend and it seems there are a lot of unhappy Xbox users out there - game seems to work really well but the content just isn't coming into the marketplace. Amazingly PMDG (who do the mega detailed airliner DLC) released the DC-6 on Xbox but had t pull it again as there were loads of bugs. Sounds like it's just the way Microsoft control the marketplace and a lack of familiarity with the Xbox that is causing the delays/lack of content. On the upside it does look like content is coming and really chuffed to read from the Devs that the Just Flight Hawk is definitely coming to Xbox but in 2022...or 3.

Any advice for what to do in the first few days of getting this game on Xbox? I guess just concentrate on passing the training sessions?

Looking forward to playing this when I acquire my sons Series S. He did install it for me a few weeks ago, but had to delete it due to lack of HD space for his games. Now I've got him a Series X for Xmas I will be getting his S.

Training missions are good. They (like everything) don’t always work 100% so you think you’re following the instructions but you then get a low score. Just view them as a general guide to how it all works rather than worry about points or how successful the game thinks you were. Landing challenges are also fun.

I like the bush trips but they’re not everyone’s cup of tea. They’re a tour of an area with multiple legs and sometimes some tricky landings to do. The Bordeaux one is excellent and takes you through the Pyrenees and alps. Where there’s loads of updated scenery.

Tbh I often just chose one of the areas in good detail and fly around checking it out.

If you get into it there’s loads of groups flights you can find links to on the community section of the flightsim forum which are a laugh. This usually involves some speech through discord but you don’t have to talk to others if it’s not your thing. You can just join in and follow everyone around a route someone else has put some effort into designing.

If you’re stuck this website shows areas with cool scenery to check out.

He’s a map showing the updated airports and updated cities/or places with Photogrammetry scenery which look awesome

If you’re on the Xbox and doing bush trips this site let’s you download the route on Google earth so you can follow it on a map.

The PC has more career and missions through third party developers but on the Xbox because of the way the closed system works we’re mainly limited to airports scenery and aircraft in the dlc that’s available from the marketplace.

Generally speaking we get a marketplace update every Thursday and then sim updates and world updates every few weeks or months. The sim updates involve fixing some bits and breaking others whilst the world updates are bigger events and involve a new part of the world getting better scenery and some updated airports plus landing challenges and bush trips, plus they’re all free.

World updates so far have been U.K. France Benelux Germany the alps USA Japan and next it’s world update 7 in the end of January covering Australia.

The flightsim forum linked to above is pretty good for info plus ask here if you’re stuck for things to do.

Thanks Stovey, that's a great guide smile I think you're a real world ATPL A aren't you?

Just wonder what your thoughts are on how 'realistic' it is or not? I'm an ATPL H myself, but I've never been a massive fan of helicopters in sims anyway as the flight models are too damn complex to replicate well. Are you playing it on an X or S and what peripherals are you using? It looks like the game works almost as well on the S although I've ordered an X to play it on and contemplating the Thrustmaster HOTAS smile

You don’t get as much but there’s still loads of Xbox content. The PMDG Dc6 will get fixed for the Xbox and they’re going to release other aircraft on it too in time.

The issue is that asobo/Microsoft keep changing things so it’s difficult for developers (on pc and xbox) there’s been a couple of dlc that have gone to asobo for testing and been released then not worked so the developer gets rightly pissed off as people then place them when it’s all Microsoft/Asobo’s ‘fault’

There’s definitely less on the Xbox marketplace and you can only get dlc from the marketplace but loading times are far less and it’s much more stable in my experience of both platforms.

There’s a bit of complaining from pc users as they think the xbox is leading to the problems and will limit the game long term which might be true but who knows,

Those unfamiliar with flight sims will soon hear about serious simmers as opposed to xbox users who aren’t simmers but gamers apparently and the pc flight sim game lot are the real pilots. hehe

I dread to think what the DC-6 would be like on the X Box! You need a dozen hands on the PC,plus the automated engineer smile if its in the XBox market place I recommend the Waco YM5, a really nice biplane.

There's a separate program (AirLand FS) for helicopters on the PC that runs alongside FS & is meant to make it a lot better for choppers like the Airbus H135.

Not played for a while and opened it up to a 103gb update.

It's been going for about 9 hours. I have gigabit broadband so it's not me. With Microsoft would chuck another lump of coal on their servers.

It's now time for me to read your post properly, join some forums and watch Youtube tutorials... I have acquired my lads Series S (which involved me buying him a Series X!!) and I've installed MSFS and yesterday evening I worked my way through some of the tutorials/instruction school tests.

I've been passing each one within a couple of goes, but on some of them I haven't understood what i'm doing, or what I needed to do and have somehow blagged my way through them, for a few reasons...

Revs - Struggle to read the engine power instrument, when asked to set engine power at say 1400 revs I can't see what revs i'm doing. I end up blindly increasing/decreasing engine power until the objective turns green telling me I have achieved it.

Altitude - Took me ages to figure out how to read my altitude meter, this sounds stupid but I just couldn't work out what the readings meant. Probably because they dont appear to read zero when on the ground? Got it now though!!

Bearings - On one test I had to fly over the airport on a 41 deg heading. Whilst I had a marker in the sky to aim for I have no idea how to head on a set bearing, is there anything on the instrument panel that gives me my bearing?

Altitude - When having to climb to a set height, say 8000ft it seemed to take me ages to get there as I could only climb at a shallow angle, pulling too far back on the yoke set off the alarm, i'm guessing that's too steep and would invoke a stall? The slightest touch of the Xbox controller stick sees me climb/dive aggressively like its far too sensitive.

Trim - I've seem mention of this but have no idea what it is or how to do it. Is it setting the plane level?

On my phone so please excuse any typos, I'll try to answer. Also I don't have an XBt so it's more general! Also I'm not a very good pilot LOL
Revs: Can be tricky, the rev gauge will show it in thousands, can take a while to settle down
Altitude: reads from above sea level, not the ground,so be careful in mountains! The short needle reads 1000s,the longer one 100s. On electronic screens the reading is often shown beside the line too
Bearings: the heading indicator, that looks like a plane on older,"steam", gauges, or is a line across the top of a digital screen, rotates to show which direction,or hearing, you're pointing in. The display rotates, not the plane. There's a small triangle thing that can be rotated with the heading setting knob, that will point the autopilot in that direction.
Climb; you have it-too steep a climb and you stall. More power or a shallower angle does the trick. GA planes can be sloooooow
Trim: a plane, when hands off the stick, has a tendency to climb or five, bank left or right, depending on weight, power etc. Trim will offset this,so if it climbed, you set nose down trim to keep an altitude etc. You can also set trim to climb/descend hands off, to reach a certain level

I'm afraid I don't know how sensitive the Xbox controller is or if there are options for adjusting it,and the only Xbox compatible yoke comes in at £300+!!! Not sure about joysticks
Loads of good stuff on the YouTube, way better than I can explain smile
e.g. https://youtu.be/VPrljZevacU 7 part series, plenty of others, this guy shouts "Clear prop!" when starting on the computer smile at least he doesn't wear a full flight suit (AFAIK)

Plus some of the training missions oddly start at high up airfields like Sedona and Flagstaff where climb performance is minimal.

Anyone treat themselves to some flight sim related Xmas goodies? Or persuade the OH/kids to indulge them? I used my JustFlight points to save a massive 50p off their Arrow III and the Hawk T.1A. Both have brilliant reviews

I got loads of airports in the sale.

So glad the Xbox only has access to the marketplace and not the other shops.

Saving my money spare time for the Foxtrot Oscar Simulations Hawker Hunter Mk.58A, English Electra Canberra PR9 and the Aeroplane Heaven P-51D Mustang. But still picking up extra UK airports and scenery when I see it.

Thanks, I've managed to understand reading the altitude and engine power/revs instruments.

Trim is one thing I need to learn when flying the Cessna on the Xbox. If there is an in-game tutorial then I missed it.

Not sure how to do it yet so I'll read up. Problem I have is once im at the desired altitude and take hands off, the plane descends so I'm constantly correcting it. It also drifts left or right which i'm also having to correct. So I asume trim will set these correctly so the plane will fly at a constant height without me having to always be adjusting etc?

It’s pretty hard to trim out all the forces in the Xbox controller but you can get reasonably close.

I THINK you use the right shoulder button and the right joystick but check the controls guide.

The way to do it is let go and see what happens, if you’re trying to fly level but when you let go you’re climbing loads then it’s right shoulder button and forwards right joystick for a couple of seconds then return to what you want and let go and see what happens if you’re descending you’ve done too much and if you’re still climbing you need to do a bit more.
