You can avoid a redownload for the Windows Store version at least.
Copy and paste everything in the Onestore folder, that's the one that's inside the Official folder, from your old install.
Install again in the new iteration so it sets up the folders, then stop the download. Delete everything in the new Onestore folder and paste all the old stuff in there.
It starts up and runs just fine as if nothing ever changed. It would take two solid days to redownload for me so this is extremely less painful.
Cheers would have been good info if I hadn’t formatted the hard drive..Copy and paste everything in the Onestore folder, that's the one that's inside the Official folder, from your old install.

One thing I would add is that although it’s a great game, it does have all sorts of glitches. It’s more like a thing that’s constantly evolving than something which can be viewed as a finished product.
This might sound odd but it seems to be how it is. The glitches you find next week might go in the next sim update but there will likely be some new ones appearing then that we haven’t seen yet.

I wouldn't mind so much if they sorted their fking servers out. It takes me blooming ages to download updates and I've got a gigabit connection so it's them, not me.

Yup. I've never, ever, ever come across a program this shonky, temperamental and rug pulling. I know there are many plates that are spinning but even so.
It's one of those things that would really need starting again from the ground up to deal with the many strange choices they made, so we're stuck with it.
It's still amazing but it doesn't half make you work for it sometimes.

Playing this on the Xbox today and noticed I had no rudder steering when on the ground. I guess in reality you need wind to pass over the rudder, but this happened at different locations. Not sure if it was a glitch? Also mid flight the game quit and Xbox suddenly switched to its dashboard and I had to reload the game again.

On the ground the rudder pedals usually turn the nose wheel (or tail wheel) so it should do something otherwise you’d have to be going really fast to manoeuvre. I’ve seen it (the glitch) happen before too and it’s sometimes after landing but not that often tbh.
If it does happen you can usually get some control by slowing down and using loads of power and full rudder and dabbing the brakes. So you kind of bounce around the corners.

Sure but it seems far more of an issue on flightsim than any other game I’ve got or bought in the last 10 years.
Nah. You didn’t buy BF2042 or any of it’s predecessors then? Or Cyberpunk 2077? Or No Mans Sky? Or…I mainly play Tarkov, they basically put the word Beta in the title to avoid a flaming but we all know it will never really be finished and this is the release.
Like i said, it’s totally par for the course in this day and age and not a surprise to anyone - especially an ambitious game, of vast scope using new tech.
Enjoyed doing the Bush tutorials on the Xbox flying the Icon plane. Also had a go at Lukla airport in Nepal, couldn't quit master landing back on the steeply inclined landing strip though!!
How do most of you use MSFS? Do most of you just do free flight - choosing destination/arrival airports and then jumping in a plane? Or maybe just choosing somewhere in the world to have a good look around?

I do a mixture of random places and fly around, bush trips or maybe a group flight and sometimes if I’m going somewhere for work I might use it to check out an area and airport if I haven’t been there for a while. I tend not to do a full start and finish flight as it often ends up with a crash (to disk) and I prefer just starting in the air somewhere. How do most of you use MSFS? I have a go at some of the tutorials also. That’s the great thing about the game there’s so many different things you can do amd places to check out.
I think the Xbox is missing some of the missions/career options you can get for the PC but there’s more coming on the marketplace as time goes on.
If you like the bush and IFR tutorials they’re designed by FSacademy who also do the marketplace VFR/ifr/bush trip DLCs and are on sale at the moment.

Have you got the Thrustmaster HOTAS for Xbox? I'm considering getting it and a cheap wireless keybpard/mouse, just wondered if anyone else has or all flying with the controller?Im enjoying flying around landmarks of the world, but I can see this lovely wearing off. So maybe I need to do some challenges?
Well I'm addicted to the landing challenges and even tried an IFR flight the other day, got about halfway to Klagenfurt from Nice in the King Air before my lack of familiarity with the autopilot/FMS just killed it for now. I am watching a few videos on IFR flights and will try a few of those, but for me the challenges are great fun - even managed a high B grade on the controller the other day! I am finding a few of the planes too difficult to fly with the controller though and yo-yoing around like a loon. The C152/172 seem spot on to me though from flying them for real and are really good fun to fly onto dirt strips.
I’ve got a Hotas but still seem to play on controller a lot if I’m only jumping on for a quick flight. Managed to get an A on most of the landing challenges with controller then beat my score (by not much at all) with the Hotas.
Don’t get me wrong, the Hotas is fantastic especially for throwing the Extra around but with the recent bug where all controls would reset upon starting the game, spending 10/20 minutes setting up the Hotas again becomes a faff.
As for flights, I tend to try and create my own airshow routines in various planes all around the world, or take off from Heathrow, have a flight over London then head to somewhere in the UK or Europe (VFR) and try to land on the smallest airstrip I can find, normally stopping for fuel somewhere new on the way, absolutely love it!

I've got a Thrustmaster Hotas X but been looking around for something else, not silly money but still well built. I keep looking at the Logitech systems as that's the same style of controller used in Elite Dangerous but then reading about them breaking or not working properly after a while.
There's X52 Hotas, X52 Professional and X56. - https://www.logitechg.com/en-gb/products/flight.ht...
Does anyone have any good experiences of them?

Ahh that's interesting so you don't need the HOTAS then? Well done on getting an A on the controller that is some going...although I have only just started to be fair I don't have the fastest or most stable internet connection and tried a flight over London the other day for the first time which looked an absolute mess with lots of low res textures - bit of a shame as otherwise the game looks outstanding and it's the only place I've encountered bad textures due to poor download speed.
