Have you got something better than the standard controller/or are planning to?
Have you got the Thrustmaster HOTAS for Xbox? I'm considering getting it and a cheap wireless keybpard/mouse, just wondered if anyone else has or all flying with the controller?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFgd_pkH0Ag

Kind of doing ok with the Xbox controller at the mo so have put my plans on hold to get a joystick and mouse etc. Only thing I’m struggling with is the views - VR would make a MASSIVE difference to this game. I can’t really land the 747 at all - no matter what I do with the view I either can’t see out the cockpit or can’t see the IAS etc.

If you have access to a 3D printer thishttps://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/887806937/3d-print...
may help
On a separate topic, 2 nice planes out today: Aeroplane Heaven has an F3F , and IndiaFoxtEcho has the long awaited F-35A/B/C
I'd been going back and forth about building a sim panel for this. Was going todo a Cessna 172 but I thought there wasn't enough buttons and the plane would limit me further on.
Anyway stopped thinking and got on and started something. In the end if went for the TBM 930.
I've started on the G3000. Designing the bezels now and will use a CNC to make them. Started on the GTC 580 touchscreen. The touch is bit st but it works.
Need to think about how I send the commands. Lot of the sim variables can't be set via the dll. Can probably make the Pi appear as a keyboard and bird keys to the setting and then send fake keystrokes.

I ended up getting bit bored of this since playing since Xmas on Xbox. Maybe Im doing it wrong?
I've been going to the world map, choosing a plane and location and then just taking off for a sight seeing flight. Sometimes enjoy skimming the ground between city sky scrapers for fun etc. But I think I need to do more - but what? Do folk normally just set a destination airport and fly straight to it?

I mix and match flight types, but as posted above I’m currently half way around the world. I tend to pick an airport, and head in that general direction and land for fuel as needed. I did something similar years back on fsx, so figured I should give it a go again. I save the flight when I’m out of time ( land at nearest airport, refuel and park first) then load the game and carry on.
I like fight sim in that’s a game I can play with a glass of wine, which I certainly can’t on the racing sims!

I'll have to look at the Xbox settings and see if fuelling can be done.I like fight sim in that’s a game I can play with a glass of wine, which I certainly can’t on the racing sims!

You could always join VatSim and fly online with other pilots and live ATC. You would have to file a flight plan for each flight and be able to fly to IFR rules, but it does add another dimension to flying, rather than just tootling around.I've been going to the world map, choosing a plane and location and then just taking off for a sight seeing flight. I like the planning and procedures elements, use an airliner which has been modified to be semi realistic (can’t wait for pmdg to get the 737 finished)
The only thing I struggle with is default ATC. I’m not keen on the officiousness of VATSIM plus while I like to sim I don’t necessarily have 3 hours to sit there in cruise and might leave it to its own devices. For p3d I had a pretty good add on for atc, but no one has got to this level yet in MSFS.

Fully agree on the default ATC. Waste of time, adds confusion, etc. As for VATSIM, I believe it is permitted to disconnect during flight, and then fast forward your cruise in-game to the next interesting phase, and then reconnect before entering another bit of controlled airspace. I am not 100% sure as it looks daunting.

If you make mistakes etc nothing bad is going to happen.
Obviously you want to do your best and not waste people’s time but . . .
It’s only people pretending to be pilots and ATC in a game.

You read the forums and people getting upset at others who are just flying around over an airport or landing in the wrong direction Etc like they’re disobeying some rules.
Obviously things like vatsim provide a more controlled environment but it’s still a game and people can turn off other players etc if they don’t like it.
I’ve been getting into some of the group flights which can provide a good mix of fun and reasonable amount of order. Loads advertised on the community section of the FS forum and someone else does all the planning etc
Plus it’s often a good way to check out a part of the world (or aircraft) you wouldn’t normally go to.

Had my first semi serious look at this over the weekend after months and months. It's come on a lot.
Did a couple of flights from Donny to Edinburgh and back in the CJ4.
P3D and FSX the default ATC would give vectors to final but this didnt seem to happen granted I dont really know what i'm doing yet !
Edit to say this was using an IFR plan generated by the sim.

You can re fuel anytime by changing the settings of the aircraft. I’m sad enough to discipline myself to only do it on the ground.
Great, I'll give that a try. SO when you land, how do you refuel?Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
