I'm hoping the complete radio silence is an indicator that they're going to make a big song and dance of it in it's own event at some point to drive hype for the new console.
I really think it could be a huge console-seller, it's 14 years since FSX and I'd imagine there's a lot of people in my camp who were into it years ago on PC but life has gotten in the way of an expensive and dedicated PC simming setup, or who have never been into it but will look at it and say 'wow', as there really is nothing else remotely comparable in the console arena.
Have to say I agree with you-I’m toying with the idea of buying a PC for this but PC gaming is just so damned complicated and expensive. Throwing £400 at an Xbox X that in all likelihood will run it as good as a middle of the range PC seems pretty intriguing to me. Although it won’t run DCS or IL2.......🤣I really think it could be a huge console-seller, it's 14 years since FSX and I'd imagine there's a lot of people in my camp who were into it years ago on PC but life has gotten in the way of an expensive and dedicated PC simming setup, or who have never been into it but will look at it and say 'wow', as there really is nothing else remotely comparable in the console arena.

Spend it you only live once ! Flying the F86 and F5 last night In DCS with the Rift is something else.
Dare I ask how much your setup cost? I know OR is £400 or so.....I’m guessing £2k all in with joysticks etc? I’m a commercial pilot already so I’m wondering whether it will be a waste of time for me That said I would really like to get into DCS or IL2 again...Siko said:

Not bad value really considering it would still run stuff at a respectable rate.
I'm with smartypants, go for it. VR and a joystick really up the immersion to 11!
DCS may be great with the 2 freebies, and free community planes like the A4 & MB339, but the paid ones are insane. I've never paid full price, the sales are so often (eg $40 for all 4 choppers!)
IL-2 is great for slow stuff, WW2, lots of sales too, and a bigger choice of planes. Flying Circus, the WW1 add on is great too. Just add a desk
A good PC will be a fantastic long-term investment. in VR and you're there

I had a great setup before (TrackIR, decent Saitek Hotas system etc) about 10 years ago, but I got into Workd if Tanks and been pretty addicted to that ever since. I’ve got a few DCS modules already (Black Shark, A-10, Mig-21 and FW190) but I found that my PC barely ran DCS even though I could get Cliffs of Dover running well at high specs. I bought the next in the series (the IL2 Stalingrad one) and couldn’t believe how bad it was, quit pc flight sims and got into tanks instead. Always wanted to get back into it though....but I think the Xbox X might be the way ahead for me...I can’t justify 2k on a toy anymore sadly 🤣
No doubt this looks to be a visually jaw dropping sim, especially as others have said, you have VR.
A buddy of mine I play DCS with regularly has already plotted his course for a marathon trip from Illinois to Southampton Airport in anticipation of release - in a turboprop!
It does seem a bit over geeky though, he was telling me that Air traffic controllers will have to pass online qualifications to play that role.

Has anyone pre-ordered for PC yet?
Me. I don't care if flight mechanics aren't realistic. I want to drift around the world crashing into things that interest me and I want to do it on day one.
It'll be interesting watching the culture clashes between committed simmers and heathens like myself.

VATSIM, the online ATC, has,IIRC, tests to show you can do it properly, and not act the goat, if you want to do it officially. I think some towers are less "formal". I don't use it personally.A buddy of mine I play DCS with regularly has already plotted his course for a marathon trip from Illinois to Southampton Airport in anticipation of release - in a turboprop!

In FS 3.0 (all green & blue blocks,& wireframe buildings) I went from Maine to key West in a Cessna, I'm going to go back in a Cessna in FS2020!

Just out of interest why have you pre ordered ?
I want to pre download and be flying ASAP. I've been reading about this since the very first rumblings. Like I said I'm much, much more interested in the Earth than the flying. I won't know any better if the ailerons are poo.

You could always have stuck with Google Earth.
I love the 3D bits indeed. There ain't very many of them though. I want to crash into trees and buildings around the entire world. And their flight simulator doesn't do it for me. bloomen said:

I'm aware I'm starting to sound like a broken VR record, but Google Earth in VR is genuinely amazing. Yes, there is only a small part of the globe with 3D buildings, but for those areas... wow. It's hard to describe but I was genuinely emotional the first time I used it. Just reaching up and grabbing the sun to drag it to the horizon for some nice sunset effects genuinely makes you feel like a God. If you are more interested in the earth than the flying I highly recommend you try it out.
I have that too. It's pretty much the sole reason I've stuck with VR. There's nothing else like it. But the bits I want to see rendered well aren't that great and that's where this comes in. Gassing Station | Video Games | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
