What can I say, I've been doing this for 10 years plus and the urge to upgrade is a constant force, the mancave contains:

Expensive gaming PC i5 8600K + 1080Ti
Pimax 8K VR Headset
34" Super widescreen monitor
Thrustmaster T500RS + T3PA Pro (loadcell kit) + TH8a shifter
Thrustmaster T16000m FCS incl throttle
Dofreality P3 motion platform

...and one very understanding wife, who usually finds out about upgrades after the event wink

You should post the video of the Dofreality system in motion too!

You're right, it is a properly addictive (and potentially expensive) hobby! My upgrade wishlist currently includes a Fanatec Podium DD1 or 2 (with rim), a Valve Index headset and next level motion platform. I keep telling myself, once I have 'X', I'll be happy with my setup but, I never am hehe

Unfortunately, a £2.5k real world garage bill has put the upgrades on the back burner for a while frown

Holy thread revival :big laugh:

I’m picking up a Logitech G920 along with the driving force gear lever from Argos tomorrow. They’re on offer at the moment for £199, a steal considering we’re on lockdown I think. I’ll post a picture up of my sim rig once it’s all set up.

What do people think of the Playseat Challenge? I need my sim rig to take up minimal space + cost so figure this could be the way to go?

A mate of mine just got the Challenge, I went for the cheaper X-rocker from Argos as it was on offer.
Currently set up in the conservatory but folds away nicely for put under the spare bed.

Very tidy setup that ^

I've moved house now and my new man cave is a 6ft x 6ft room, so I only JUST managed to get my desk and the steering wheel down the side - its mounted on an GT Omega classic stand. I can't have mine permanently in place as i need to use it as an office and for other reasons. I've had to ditch the shifter (which was on an attachment) as it wouldn't go in, but on the flipside, I can now sit under it much more comfortably since the shifter used to really restrict my leg room. I just need to verify that my G27 will work without it.

Still somewhat tempted to go VR at some point.

Looks great that. I looked at the x-rocker but i was unsure where to mount the gear shifter. I came across a seat that Curry’s sell so went for that one in the end. Annoyingly it won’t arrive until next week! £150. It gets mostly good reviews but if it’s rubbish I’ll send it back.

I use the playseat challenge, it's of course not as good as a solid rig but it's not horrendous, the slight up and down wobble in the steering wheel, or the limit on brake pedal force before the chair rocks backwards are not a big deal compared to the low profile, foldability, low price, and comfort.

I got mine for £200 with the shifter included from Argos a few weeks ago. A mate of mine is try to buy the G29 but the price has gone up now.

It’s a great bit of kit but not worth £270 they are retailing at.

Very rough and ready, but put this together... We had a bit of timber just lying around and the makings of the main part of the frame already - just needed to put together a platform for the pedals and the steering wheel! Still a bit to finish off and I'm sure we'll make some improvements over the next few months or years. Had an Audi A3 seat, which just fitted. All of this means that the seat is adjustable, the pedals are adjustable and the wheel is adjustable (all front to back, not up and down or angled). Quite pleased with the result, especially as the only cost was the seat (£25) the screws and some bolts.

eps jr at the wheel...

The wheel is an old Fanatec CSR one which connects to the Xbox One via a drive hub.

Cable management needs sorting, or might have to go for a newer wheel, which will reduce the number of cables greatly.

I still managed to beat him with some clean lap times... driving

Interesting - how far away do people have their rig/seat from the screen?

Initially I had mine mounted on a desk with a 55" TV in front of it, worked okay as it 'synced' you up to where the wheel is on the interior view of games.
Latterly it was about a metre or two away from the TV and then computer screen on a wheel stand & now I've moved on to VR on the PC with the occasional go on PCars on the xbox.

I'd much rather it be quite close, helps with the immersion.

Yep - it was Teppic's post that got me thinking about the immersion part. Cheers

My screen (47") is roughly in line with my ankles. Even with that, the FoV calcs say i should be at 42 degrees, and you can't see a huge amount, so i normally run about 45 or so (where i have a choice). It's not a big deal really, some games don't have the option to change the FoV and you get used to it pretty soon, but that's probably helped by being close.
I wouldn't like to be playing on the sofa 12ft away from a 32" screen.

I'm normally about 2ft from my 34" ultra wide and I would say for me it's the minimum size screen at that distance to get good immersion. It works for me but I think I will look into VR sooner or later.

Few lockdown project mods to my playseat challenge / T300RS wheel

Tactile transducer (bass shaker)

Handbrake (digital on / off) maps to R3 button

Sequential shifter coming next

Looks neat! Not a criticism but what made you put the handbrake on the right? Just logistics for mounting?

Mines a bit more rudimental hehe

I used to have the H-pattern gearshift on the right as most cars in games are LHD.

But as im a UK driver, it's more natural for me to have the H-pattern gearshift on the left and then I'll have both the handbrake and sequential shifter on the right

Fairly simple but I like it. Tried some higher spec stuff but think I'm at a fairly sweet spot.
A Fanatec 2.5 wheel would be good but quite a lot of coin and I really like my TM.

Obbuto rig
TM wheel with F1 rim
G27 pedals with TSS hydraulic brake upgrade
SSH shifter
4 x Chassis buttkickers
Oculus Rift
