Any game you purchase for digital only is tied in to your Xbox Live account, so it should be yours for life. I've got a couple of games I downloaded on my Xbox One that I purchased for my Xbox 360 over 10 years ago! laugh so if you were to give your Xbox to your kids, provided they log in with your account those games are still available to them. You just can't transfer them to another account as far as I'm aware.

You don't have to use the same account, just the same console. I have my older One upstairs with a backup account, and it's possible to play the same game simultaneously using both accounts.
Interesting - for older games presumably? We have the Xbox One, will be getting one of the next gens and I'd planned on moving the existing xBox upstairs, so by doing that anything we have for it now will be available on both? Never been clear on how this works.
Works on all digital games, including Game Pass, Gold, backwards compatible 360 games and any DLC. So you could setup your main account on both consoles, then the kids could log in with theirs on one of them to play anything you own. Only thing you can't do is have the same gamertag running on two consoles at the same time, you'll just get logged out if the other one logs in.

So the series S will be the casual gamer setup where you have no hard copy games only digital - so if you sell the console does that mean it’s just the console or will all the games you’ve bought be then transferred to the new owner.
The games would be on your Xbox Live account
So if - as it’s an 8 year min horizon with these things - I gave my console to one of the kids and then bought another one 6 years later and my Xbox live account is clearly in my new system would that mean they then have zero games and have to either log in as me or rebuy.

If so the Xbox series X is the one to go for.
All games are downloaded onto your console and the game saves are normally backed up in the cloud. I gave my lad my old Xbox when I bought the one X and he has access to my live account and my library of 143 digital games. I haven’t bought a disk in a long time.

You don’t have to use the same account. Just set the Xbox that doesn’t have the main account on, so the kids Xbox, as the home Xbox and you can share games and Xbox live. You can’t share game pass but you can just log into there machine and download the game, log off and it will still be there for them to play, or just use the game pass app and remote install them.

I've just read on a US site that its

$299 for the S, $499 for the X

OR

$25/mo for the S (with all access) and $35 for the X (with all access)

So that's like a phone contract. Monthly fee to cover the box and access to the xbox live service (presumably). To me, that seems like one to avoid. A year of $25/mo and you've nearly bought the console. I'd hazard a guess that the monthlies don't come down once you have paid it off! Then again, I don't know how much xbox live is a month.

I dunno. Not something I'd do. It's just another thing to add onto the "monthlies" or "never-never" pile. But the comments section was massively excited at this prospect. Not for me I must say.

It seems that the $25 will cover console, live access but also game pass access.

Which if you only play one or two games (like I do) will be pretty expensive

But if you want to play lots of different games the inclusion of game pass (and i assume ongoing expansion of it) could turn out to be quite a decent deal.

For Xbox live costs, I don't buy them full price. Get 6, 12 or however many months on a code from CD Keys or similar when they're on offer. You can stack them, so my Game Pass/Xbox Live and PSN are paid up cheaper for at least a year on both.

It must be a 2 year deal and then you keep it / or three.

Bargain I reckon....

At some point next year when some proper AAA games are out.

Actually that’s unfair it’s a bargain whatever. Considering an iPhone costs £1000 these days.

£449 for native 4K 60fps gaming is amazing

Indeed, as I mentioned earlier in the thread I'm a big Xbox fan, but so far I've seen nothing of interest in terms of games

Same here. Last time I got a console on release day I went to the shops - might not be as simple as that this time around! Also wondering if there might be a limited edition coming?

Game Pass is already a complete bargain, especially seeing as that thanks to reward points and intro offers, it's costs me £1 for the last 3 months

I stacked all my live and the old game pass when ultimate first came out and I don’t have to pay for it until Oct 2021

Same, I had 6 months of Gold left and bought another 12 months from CD Keys. Took up the £1 Ultimate offer and now not paying until April 22. Winner.
