Correct, optimised games need NVMe SSD drives to play, which are only available from Seagate.

Although I noticed this today which is interesting - https://www.videogameschronicle.com/news/xbox-seri...
Yes i read that too, but price works out the same or more as official one.

Can you recommend kit to buy?

It’s this one, I think Amazon have sold it cheaper previously -

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08K48F6QZ/ref=cm_sw_r...

What you can do is use a cheap generic external 2tb ssd to store your games and then copy them from the cheap external ssd to the series x when you want to play them. It doesn’t take too long to copy a game from external to internal, around 15-20 minutes to do a 100gb game.
So to play games you have to copy, the drive can't be used to play games. I'll think I leave it 1tb X drive is getting lower 160 will wait.

You can play the backwards compatible stuff on any generic external drive, but not enhanced games.
Ok that would suit. Not many enhanced out yet.

Welcome to supply chain issues and inflation.

Very little chance of this situation clearing up in the near term - the entire economy is going the way of higher prices (inflation) and low availability of goods (supply chain issues) and stuff like the console/GPU shortages were just the precursor to a much wider problem.
That would make some sort of sense if there wasn't a worldwide shortage.

Yes but what you have written implies this issue is done to UK issues, which it clearly isn't.

Nope - You seem to have inferred it for some reason but I certainly did not imply that it was something unique to the UK.

You should have used WORLD economy...

The *context* of the discussion was being unable to get a console *in the UK* ... there are supply chain and inflation problems that are going to mean that this situation (being unable to get a console in the UK) continues into the longer term
They aren't built here, not seen any inflation issues where they are built, and the price elasticity of demand will mean the price will start to drop. Anyways..

I’m still getting notifications on HotStock

They were about once a week a few months ago but now they seem to be almost daily.

Looks like a good time to get one before Christmas chaos.

I'm running a One S at the moment. Is it worth actually spending the money on the X? I'm a fairly casual gamer, have a 4k TV which I use the One S on. I've got game pass but I tend to play only a few titles.
Exactly where I've come from and I think it's worth it. The graphics aren't a massive leap forward but they are better. The main benefits for me are the speed of the thing, it's so much quicker to load games. Quick resume, some games seem to be able to resume even though the console has been completely switched off. Finally being able to access series X exclusive games such as flight sim.

My plan is to try and sell my One S for about £100 which will offset the cost of the upgrade.
I did the same upgrade and am very happy, probably happier than my mate who went from One X, it feels like a decent step

Yeah it looks a really good deal to me too! Have you tried Microsoft flight sim yet? That’s basically what I’m buying it for…
Thats the only reason I have bought a Series X, though i'm not revealing I've got it to house LeadFarmer until Xmas Day when I'll swap it with my son for his Series S, so its kind of a present for him too. The smaller HD of the S will be fine for me, he may as well have the larger HD of the X for all his games.
Same here. It’s excellent.

Looks like stock is improving all over the place and it’s going to be ok for normal buyers for Christmas.

Ebay with pages of new ones, hopefully the scalpers and flippers will end up taking a hit.

I got one on a stock alert app and it used to send stock alerts every 10 days or so and if you didn’t get it in the first few minutes it was too late but now it’s constantly going off with stock availability alerts.

That’s for the non serious games so a series S would have been a better buy

Or put it somewhere else.
confused

So to be a “serious gamer” you’ve got to have something with a daft form factor?

Isn’t it a bit early in the morning to be on your crack pipe?

Quick question - do the controllers use AA batteries like the XBox One, or are they rechargeable like the Playstation?

Considering getting son a new Xbox but want to know whether an additional pad is worth it / necessary.
https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/accessories/batteries-chargers/play-and-charge-kit

I use this, wire is long enough that even when its low I can play plugged in, I then leave it plugged in when the Xbox is off and it charges ready for next session

Yep…me! I am a commercial pilot aswell (I recognise your username lol) although I fly rotary. I am playing it mainly using just a controller although I am probably going to get the Thrustmaster x thing. The main problem stopping me enjoying it more is the lack of head tracking - when I used to be a pc gamer I had a TrackIR and I get really frustrated using the sticks to look around. Well that and the fact living where we do the internet is mega slow and whilst the game looks ace anywhere outside a city, as soon as you try and fly over any major conurbation it looks really cruddy with blocky buildings. I’ve tried orbiting over areas to see if it improves but it’s so slowly better it’s not worth it, not the fault of the game per se but with better download I’d probably play it more tbh.
If it’s slow you might be able to improve the photogrammetry by increasing the rolling cache but that only really works if you’re staying in the one area.

Unfortunately I had to decrease the size of the rolling cache to enable the updates to be down without crashing (there was a big thread on the MS forums about this). But as you say it’s best if you fly in one area and I mainly enjoy doing the landing challenges or the odd flight around an old haunt.

Looking forward to seeing helicopters but I suspect the flight models will be mediocre at best - I’m not criticising them per se, helicopters are the work of the devil biggrin Even our level B simulator at work gets stuff wrong on occasion. I think fixed-wing flight models are reasonably straightforward to replicate, but helicopters just aren’t although I guess that’s more of a problem for us rotary heroes than you mere mortals wink

Plus much of helicopter flying is seat of the pants stuff and constantly scanning to the side in the hover etc is a massive pita in the game without TrackIR. Bah humbug I’ll definitely try it anyway and might wipe the miserable grimace off my face too, you never know!
I expect us real pilots will be able to master helicopters in a few minutes. Using our Xbox controllers and mad skillz.

Obviously you’ll be saying it’s “not realistic” but that’s just sour grapes. hehe
