All I did was do draw a little diagram of eact step on cardboard and punch holes in it then
transfer each screw as it came out.
Then it was just a matter of taking lots of mobile phone photos at each stage then display them
in backwards order to see how the bits should look at each stage in reassembly.
And a hint: keep touching something earthed to klill the static in your body.
I used the tower metal of a PC (plugged in) but one of the holding screws on a light switch or mains
socket will do.

Good plan! Here's my plan. My phat PS3kind of works in that it'll usually run Dirt (only one overheat crash so far but it won't steer
properly with the GT wheel). But it randomly over heats/crashes even just sitting. every tieme I try to
install or run GT5, it crashes again.
Redoing the thermal paste was obviously a failure and I don't intend to try delidding on the basis of cost
and inevitable breakage of the processors.
On advice from this thread, I checked out CEX. From there, I can get a Super Slim, in good shape, delivered for free and with a 2-year
repair/replace warranty. Given I assume they test the merchandise that seems worth the £75 asking price for an unboxed example.
Here's a new question for all you gamey types...
Following recommendations on here, I bit the bullet.
I started by going to Cex and sending them my ailing PS3 Phat
to them and to my amazement, they bought it!
I then chose very carefully and when my trade-in voucher showed up,
I put it against an unboxed PS3 Super Slim. This duly appeared
and after a little bit of work with my MIG welder, I'd fashioned
a stand for my wheel from an old, chrome towel rail.
Last night, then, involved a massive update for the PS3 and the loading of GT5
and its own update. Before long, I was driving a Mazda Eunos, around the 'high speed
ring' and coming 16th of 16 starters. I also discovered that the big dead spot in the steering
goes away when I go at racing speeds.
Tonight, I found Arcade Mode so I've been hammering round in a Twin Turbo Audi TT, a 427 Cobra
and a Mustang GT coupe. It's great fun.
Here's the question. The eject button that I understand is supposed to unlatch the sliding door to allow access
to the disc seems not to be owrking. I can start the door moving manually, then it slides open. However, pressing
the eject button does nothing. Should it unlatch the door? If it should, I'll probably send this unit
back for a repair or replacement.
Please enlighten me, gentlemen.

Re. the disc door, as it's sprung, I expect the eject button is to operate a locking solenoid or it just be a mechanical
lock? It doesn't bother me much but I wonder if opening the door from locked will eventually knacker the door and/or
whatever locks it. In any event, the warranty's two years.
Now I've got going, I've bought a few games from eBay. En route are...
