I use 'blink'. I know, not as immersive, but works well for me. I've not tried the other options to be fair!

Smooth used to do that to me, some games do it better than others and Alyx is one of the better ones. You need your VR legs, you do get used to it. Still makes me feel ropey after a long session in smooth yet I can VR race for hours.

I also have on of these KatLoco S which is a bit more immersive in these type of games. Not perfect but quite fun.

In theory you should be fine. I have a mat I put down about 1m dia and I can feel when I move off it.
You sort of run on the spot.

Obviously you look like a massive bell-end, but you are already wearing a VR headset so horses for courses.

I play all VR games with 'snap' turning .. Smooth turning can be stomach-churning and turn speed is inconsistent between different games. Snapping to (usually) 45 degree increments is much kinder on your stomach and oddly feels natural. Something to do with the ways your eyes auto-close when you snap your head around quickly, or something.

The nice thing about Alyx is that it supports smooth forward and strafe left/right locomotion at the same time as teleport if you prefer. Smooth movement for immersion, teleport for speed when you just want to move around quickly.

Still the best example of what PCVR can really do, even years after release.

By the way, if anyone is looking for a great PCVR game in the Half-Life mould, I can recommend Vertigo 2. Absolutely fantastic. Gfx not quite up with the detail and realism of Alyx but damn good in their stylised cartoony way, good shooty/weapon mechanics and IMO fantastic humour.

I wish-listed Vertigo 2 the other day as it popped up in my feed, might have to give the demo a go now.

Didn't try the Demo (as I was already sold on the sequel having played Vertigo Remastered) but it should give you a good idea based on the trailer. The game is currently on the Steam sale for £21.24 (from £24.99). The first title didn't tend to get discounted all that often until the sequel was close, so as good a time as any to take the plunge.

Vertigo Remastered also currently on sale for under a tenner. Also a great game but definitely a lot simpler than the sequel, as the original it was remastering came out years ago. Vertigo 2 just moves it on by a huge leap. There's a franchise bundle for £28.24 that includes both games and the soundtracks.
