Been excited for this for a while, absolutely smashed Mudrunner and all the DLC so hopefully this stacks up. Anyone else downloading today?

I'm tempted. Never played it's predecessor but it looks like a game I could really get into.

Does look fun, but limited wheel support, no FFB and no VR support means I'm gonna wait this one out I think until they've fixed it (which is all planned, apparently...except for VR support).

Saw an advert for this and my three year old thought it looked great - couldn't quite figure out what it is though?!

It’s an oddity, that’s for sure. I’ve been playing since the Spintyres days and it’s come on a lot in many ways. You’ll rarely exceed 10mph but it is somehow a massive time sink. Incredible ground deformation is its forte I suppose, and getting big trucks stuck in it.

Is it just a snow skinned version of mudrunner/spintyres or is the engine, graphics and interface upgraded?

New engine (they ported the mud physics over). Much more to do – it feels like more of a properly developed game now, insofar as it has progression. You also have one save and you explore the world in a sort of career mode, rather than dipping in and out of levels. It's far user-friendlier than Mudrunner was, but it's still got some janky charm.

Was watching a Jimmer Broadbean stream of him playing it - and having owning the old Mudrunner, I'm just d/ling it on the xbox. Looks much improved from MR.

Downloaded it on the release day for my 2 lads, 7 and 10. They are loving it so far but I wouldn't say they are typical for their age, their favourite game is farming simulator!

Just come across what I presume is a glitch though. They left a truck outside the garage on the Alaska map and when they tried getting back to it they couldn't. And it wasn't showing in the garage either. They had no money to buy another vehicle so had to restart the game from the beginning?

Funny - I think this game will move me away from FS19 too. (He says, as a 38 year old!)

That does sound glitchy, and quite unfortunate. I've just unlocked all the watch towers in the first location, and am doing some upgrades before tackling some of the missions. It's fantastic. I had mudrunner on the switch, but SR is very much improved. Not just the physics engine, but the UI and 'career' mode of it all. A potentially huge time sink! It's quite relaxing tho. Stuck on some chill spotify playlist, turned off in game music and enjoyed.

Getting stuck right into this (snigger).

I was really struggling until I had a realisation. You buy and sell trucks and trailers for the same amount, as in nothing depreciates and there is no buying premium. What this means is you can sell everything you get hold of at the start and buy something half decent that will get the job done.
I spent literally hours slogging away with the POS GMC truck you start off with, no all wheel drive, no locking diffs and road tyres, getting nowhere fast and starting to get frustrated. Then I sold everything I had acquired up for that point and bought one of these.

Getting a lot more done now

I had similar.

TRUCK1 was moved out of garage in Alaska (after the tutorial), then I went straight back to the Michigan map to do some easier tasks. Realised I needed TRUCK1 but I'd left it in Alaska. Returned to the Alaska garage but it wasn't there. I looked on the map and TRUCK1 was outside, but it wouldn't let me jump to it like it does elsewhere on the map - so I assume it's due to being in the 'exit' part of the garage.

Solution was to bring TRUCK2 (using 'retain' in the garage) from Michigan garage to Alaska, take TRUCK2 outside and push TRUCK1 outside the red box, then recover TRUCK2 to the garage, and finally use the map to jump to TRUCK1 and recover that to the garage.

I could then retain both and they're available in any garage - until you go into the Truck Storage and move them into a garage slot.

Pity I sold some though, as I'm now finding upgrades that only work on some of those!

Really enjoying it after weeks of Forza Horizon 4, Forza 7, Project Cars 2 and Journey to the Savage Planet.

Even tried to make the livery the same on all my trucks...and you can do it with a single colour...but I can't find a 2-tone one that is available on every truck I've had so far. Some have a light blue & white, but others add orange to the light blue one. Haven't found a livery editor yet though.

Superb, thank you. They restarted the game as they weren’t that far in to it but i was annoyed for them.

If anyone is playing on PC and has experienced their save file disappear, then in my case it was because Microsoft Ransomware protection has blocked anything from writing to the MyDocuments - which is where the Save folder would be stored.

I had to add an exception to allow snowrunner.exe to access this folder.

Only lost 4 hours rolleyes

No messing around today with vehicles being in the wrong place oh no.

They turned it on and the whole game had reset to the beginning! Beginning to think this may not be the best developed game around.

Is it a PC, and if so have you checked the Windows Security settings (specifically the controlled folder/ransomware settings)?

As per my previous post, I lost a long initial session, then a few more small ones until I remembers an issue I had with another game last year.

To get to the correct setting you have to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection settings > Controlled folder access (near the bottom)

If that little switch is set to 'On' then make sure you 'Allow an app through Controlled folder access'. When you get to your screen you may find it lists recently blocked apps - in my case snowrunner.exe was on there, so I chose to allow it.

My setting now looks like this...

Thanks for the in-depth reply I'm sure it will be useful to other people but this is on an Xbox?

Just had my first session on it. Wow, it is much better. Much more like a polished game.
Love the walkthrough guiding you through.
Just got back from Alaska now trying to work up to level 6 to buy offroad tyres.
Will go exploring in the early jeep to get all the watchtowers.
Controls are nice and easy with the Xbox controller on the PC as well.
