Anyone still playing this? As I understand the first proper expansion "Search and Rescue" is coming out tomorrow, this should be quite fun!
I'm not spending as much time on this as I did a month ago, but it's still good fun when I do.
Still playing it - at about level 27 so far.I'm not spending as much time on this as I did a month ago, but it's still good fun when I do.
Seem to be using the CAT for everything, as it only gets stuck on narrow trails with rocks either side - maybe a tad overpowered?

That's some interesting kit on the CAT, are you on PC? Last I checked, it couldn't tow a trailer, and the only attachment was a container holder. Seem to be using the CAT for everything, as it only gets stuck on narrow trails with rocks either side - maybe a tad overpowered?

Yes, on the PC, so have access to lots of mods - no cheats, but different trucks, better physics & tyre models, etc.I know they promised mods would be available on console, but I've not actually seen any recent announcement to say they're actually live.
It's one of the reasons I bought it for PC this time, as I waited almost 4 years for 'mods coming to consoles soon' for Spintires Mudrunner.

Phase 1 - Search & Recover is out now.
Includes a new map - LakeCovidKovd
If you're not on PC, it's about the only way you'll get any extra content...for now.

I've not yet taken it back to the garage yet

Are you on console? If so, that's why, as there's a mod available on the PC to allow more flatbed/hitch options.I've not yet taken it back to the garage yet

Some of the mods to add realism are great - e.g. real weight penalties so a very heavy load will have a greater effect on the truck performance; tyre deformity based in pressures so road tyres stay 'square' and mud tyres go squishy.
Just done my 'drive around the map to uncover it all' routine and I think this DLC map is the biggest single map in the game.
The 360 spins on ice are fun, but try not to fall through the ice when there's no trees to winch to or you're going to be recovering to the garage quite a lot. Some roads which look huge on the map are nothing of the sort (some are rocky valley floors), and some are too narrow for a big truck, but too deep in snow for the scouts.

I've just completed the first 3 maps 100% and Alaska and Russia left me feeling a little underwhelmed. The American map had some difficult roads where you really had to think about your route and what truck/trailer you should use whereas the other two you could just follow the main roads. Maybe it was because I didn't have the best trucks at the time the challenge was more fun? Sometimes it feels a bit too easy...The 360 spins on ice are fun, but try not to fall through the ice when there's no trees to winch to or you're going to be recovering to the garage quite a lot. I haven't got far into the the DLC but it seems more like America in that you can take several routes to get to the same point. A truck might work for one, but will just fall through the ice if you try and risk it.
As you've said, it looks huge and there are only a few watchtowers so it'll be interesting to explore it. Wasn't there supposed to be a mobile watchtower as a trailer attachment?

I got a new trailer from an early task in the DLC, but it's just a small utility one for the scouts. Not done many tasks yet, so maybe it comes from one of those?I haven't got far into the the DLC but it seems more like America in that you can take several routes to get to the same point. The most frustrating bits (the game in general, not the DLC) are the narrow, off-camber tracks where the truck & trailer keep rolling - and then you can't fit a recovery truck down the same track due to all the trees.

It doesn't have a trailer hitch, and you can only load a container on the back, but it will go anywhere (unless it's too big to fit) and winch anything out. I quite like it as it is, as it's one of those things that stops the game from being too easy. I've not yet taken it back to the garage yet

That might be the one I'm thinking of. I haven't gotten into the tasks yet so I'll keep an eye out for it. Whilst there does seem to be a lot of tasks the missions seems a bit boring, especially the ones where you have to just get to waypoints. I'm sure it is harder than it looks on the map but it feels like they have ran out of ideas a little.

I guess the DLC description matches - there are some search/scouting tasks and some vehicle/trailer recovery tasks.Whilst there does seem to be a lot of tasks the missions seems a bit boring, especially the ones where you have to just get to waypoints. I think there are about 30 tasks that I've discovered so far (plus the company ones) - and 4 or 5 contests.

Reading further into it, it looks like having the 'mobile recon' trailer attached to your truck will give you another option in your utility menu to 'activate radar' to act as a mobile watchtower.mmm-five said:

Thanks for the info. I thought I was just going to be able to get it from the trailer store but looks like I'll have to do a bit of searching instead.I wonder if that means if you get stuck with it then you'll have to find a way to recover it rather than just buying a new one?
