Tried:
Paystar offroad truck upgraded to best off road tyres I could afford (Mud not unlocked yet) - got stuck in mud
Tayga - as above - stuck in mud.
Got the Hummer and could fit some mud tyres on it. - got stuck.

diff lock and low gear on paystar - didnt help

How the heck do you get near enough to the box to activate the task?

That's so long ago that I don't recall what I did...but youtube should be able to offer some suggestions/solutions.

BTW, have you tried getting as far away as you can (on safe ground) and using your winch?

It's been a while since I've done that one but I think I drove in through the fence to avoid the big puddle and winched it back out with my Chevy truck.

It's worth doing all the towers and collecting all the upgrades. The Fleetstar you get right at the start is pretty decent off road once you've unlocked the suspension lift and better tyres.

Similarly I can't quite remember how I did it, but you should be able to get closer to it by going around the boggiest bits. It won't be a straight line.

Also, can't you accept and activate tasks in the menu?

Oh, it's always worth checking if you can start the engine of the vehicle you're trying to recover as well. They don't all do it but it'll give you a bit of help if it can. It's in the pop up menu when you're connected to the other vehicle.

You tube I watched just showed a scout of some sort driving straight up to the task box. ill have another try.

Its not winching the car is the issue its getting to the task box in order to be able to "accept" on it. I can drop the scout off where needed once thats done.

I'll try different approach routes but they all look equally muddy.

Yep that worked, went left after the "gate" and sort of circled towards it. thanks

They dont show in the menu until you've accepted them by getting to the box.
