Sorry, yes there is a Highway gearbox you can find in Alaska, but I've not used it as I'm not sure I want to limit my mostly off-road vehicles/tasks to a gearbox that won't get me out of mud.

Top speed I've seen in a standard gearbox is 60kph (on the speedo in 1st person view).
My speedo doesn't work in my current truck, the fuel gauge does though! I'm finding it much better in first person view, I just wish the mirrors would reflect what's behind you!

My one major bug has been the rescue of the Tayga 6436, which I recovered back to my garage - only for it to disappear. No free truck for me. There's been a few glitches and oddities, but that annoyed me a bit more. Money is hard to come by and I was looking forward to that one free!

Is there anyone on PS4 who fancies some multiplayer sometime?

I'm on there as CfnTeabag (I think!)

I really want to like it, but the steering combined with the dynamic camera movement are a real let down. Getting increasingly frustrated by it. I want the camera locked in one position unless I say otherwise, I don’t want it to zoom or angle, I can do that as required. (xbox, stick sensitivity at 0.05).

Just driving in a straight line is depressingly difficult.

Tree branches (not trunks, the branches)seem to be super-strong too, perfectly capable of holding your 38-tonner against a 45-degree incline. And when there’s a fallen log in the road, why can’t I attach the winch to it and pull it out of the way?

That said, it’s so satisfying to accomplish tasks, it really feels like you achieved something. Another tip - link the winch on the side of a truck to a telegraph pole on the ice, spin round and round... and release! Quite amusing. laugh

Overall for me it’s a 7/10 game. Sort the steering/camera & it’d be a solid 9.

Michigan map 3 has no garage so you have to stock up on fuel tankers and repair trailers:

Nor does Michigan 4.

I believe that only about 2/3rds of maps have garages or fuel stations.

Regarding tyres...

Snow chains and/or huge mud tyres are not good on tarmac - and you may find yourself going sideways down the road at 40mph with no control. They also delay steering inputs greatly on tarmac.

Ignoring the snow chains which you'd expect to be crap on road, the customisation stats for these mud tyres say they're Good/Excellent/Excellent for On-Road/Off-Road/Mud - but they're terrible on-road, so the stats might be lying mad

I may (or may not) be keeping my trailers and trucks neatly lined up at my "base" int he first Michigan map hehe Probably not the most efficient but it's not been a hindrance so far as I've not had to plan ahead too much, and it's satisfying!

I love the terrain realism of this game though. The first time I tried to rescue the drowned truck between the garage and the warehouse, I got there in my scout and managed to move it some of the way, then drove away easily. Now I've been there a few times and struggled in something heavier, it's such a boggy mess that only the biggest offroad truck will manage it.

The depot I think it is on the far left of the second Michigan map is a complete disaster. The whole hill is 3ft of wet mud to get stuck in with nothing to winch onto.

I don't think I've got that far on that map yet, done some of the easier stuff like "Find the Antenna". Have you seen the mud on map 1 in Russia?, the centre of the map (also a depot maybe) is ridiculous, I managed to get a trailer dropped off in there for one of the missions but got stuck on the way out. I gave up and went back to finish Michigan map 1.

Last night was a complete disaster, I spent hours trying to get the construction trailer to the drill site (Michigan Map 1), figure I need some more upgrades before that's possible. Left it stuck in the river after I also got stuck trying the shorter twisty route. Didn't gain any money or XP all night, and stupidly restarting it also means you have to redeliver the metal pipes, which also annoyingly you need a 5 space cargo trailer to fit 4 spaces of pipe in, taking a standard flat bed won't let you load it.

I think this game might end up being a rage quit one night and never being played again.

I got that very trailer properly stuck going a tight and twisty route. Proper rage inducing 45 minutes followed as I tried (And eventually succeeded) to get it un-stuck.

The Daily Questions Thread on the Snowrunner subreddit has a bunch of great resources that don't currently exist on wikis etc.

https://www.reddit.com/r/snowrunner/

The Cargo Icon Guide gives you the icon key and importantly the size of the load (as anyone who has turned up with a 2 space trailer to pick up a 4 space object will tell you, this is useful info wavey).

The Tire Grip Comparison is interesting. It shows that chained tyres are literally just off-road tyres with a flag to ignore icy roads and as such the mud tyres (and even some alternative off road) are still more use in mud (which is contrary to lots of posts I see). Also interesting is the fact that tyre designs (ie. UOD I, II and III) behave differently.

Good links, thanks.

Decided to get a grip on Alaska and smashed through a few missions only to think "lets get the oil rig semi". Rookie mistake (again), two hours later (3 rolled trucks before I gave up and used the detour) and over 1000 litres of fuel I managed it, but I wouldn't recommend it with a fairly basic green ugly thing. Looking at YouTube I need a Tayga asap. Still, I unlocked the next Alaska map. Woop. i think.

No rage quit tonight, maybe tomorrow.

I bought the Khan scout vehicle the other day and it's very much a double-edged sword. Although it's great off-road and in the mud (basically skips along all but the thickest of mud), it has a habit of veering off the road at random when on tarmac, and will easily roll over, so you have to be very careful when driving off-road.

It proved very good at pulling out stuck vehicles and trailers though; I cleared the first Michigan map using the winch to pull things out of swamps, although towing a heavy trailer on a winch line was interesting when driving along roads, there were a few times when I'd slow for a corner only to be punted out of the way by it!

Where are people finding vehicles that they keep? I know of the "stuck" ones out there that have a mission attached to them, so are people just keeping those for themselves and not returning them to the mission, or are there hidden ones out there that require you find them first? I know there's trailers out there like that which I have been collecting, but not aware of a similar thing with vehicles.

It's the the balloon tyres that make it great off road and equally crap on road. I also believe it is one of the few vehicles that floats/swims.

It's the same on one of the trucks I've customised for the Lake Islands - goes great across mud, swamp & dirt track, but doesn't like deep water, and has a habit of doing 8-wheel drifts down the road and over the guard railings.

There are some trucks that disappear after completing a mission and some that don’t. I haven’t seen any indication to tell which way it will be.

There are some trucks that are just out there in the wild which, once you get close enough to, you can jump straight into but they usually have some damage so will need to be recovered or repaired.

Lots of information on what's hidden on Reddit here if you want to just go and find them. I'm trying to avoid 'spoilers' and just trying and find upgrades/trucks as I go but that comes with its frustrations!

I've now completed all missions and tasks based on the first Michigan map. At this rate it's going to be a long game trying to do everything!

Thanks for this. Shame the game doesn't emphasise this, rather than just the cosmetic differences. Some clear differences!

I found the Kodiak heavy duty truck somewhere, and quickly realised it's rubbish at everything... Then I sold almost everything and bought a heavy truck for a giggle, the twin steer thingy, I only realised afterwards it can't tow trailers!

I'm now building a fleet so I don't have to modify my truck each time I need to move a different trailer, I currently have my Paystar offroad truck with the bigger crane body, a Fleetstar heavy duty for semi-trailers, and the Chevy scout with a flatbed trailer. I don't know if it's "right", but I'm having fun finding out.

Just about to finish the first Michigan map and will head out to the rest soon. Not sure I feel the need to visit Alaska yet.

The vehicles that you get to keep after recovering should have it listed as a reward on the task accept page.

I found the huge great Pacific truck on the Michigan map and couldn't see a use for it as all you can put on it is the saddle high but it doesn't have any trailers available for it but it is the perfect truck for towing the oil rig parts! the one in Alaska it just ate the route for breakfast! its pretty good at dragging out stuck vehicles as well.

I am using the YAR 87 as a scout as its pretty much go anywhere and it can tow a flatbed as well without being too hindered by it

Oooh, nice one! I'd tried that mission twice and gave up (rolled once, stuck and wedged into the bypass bit once). I love my White Western Star 4964 but clearly there are some things it can't quite manage...
