“We’re working as hard as we can to ameliorate that situation,” Ryan says on a Zoom call, mere hours after receiving his second Covid-19 vaccination shot. “We see production ramping up over the summer and certainly into the second half of the year, and we would hope to see some sort of return to normality in terms of the balance between supply and demand during that period.”
Be interesting to see if that happens given chip shortages are allegedly going to run in to 2022.Crafty_ said:

Think I read they're gonna try to re-design it without the semi conductor that's in short supply or something? Probably won't happen anytime soon though. It does get easier to get one with every drop though, there's a slight positive. My bros PS5 arrived, he's gone away for the weekend so told me to set it up etc. Been playing The Warriors from PS2, still love that game. He bought Spiderman as well, might have a blast on that tonight.

There's no single 'semi conductor in short supply' that's stymieing PS5 production. The TSMC foundries in Taiwan that make all the APUs used in the PS5 (as well as Xbox Series S|X APUs, AMD Zen CPUs and AMD GPUs) are at full capacity and currently facing issues with water supplies, as well as a global shortage of silicon used in the substrate upon which semiconductors are fabricated. So there's no slack in the system to increase production. My bros PS5 arrived, he's gone away for the weekend so told me to set it up etc. Been playing The Warriors from PS2, still love that game. Sony is looking at a die shrink to 6nm Tech (currently 7nm) which should result in better yields and more chips per silicon wafer. It should also result in lower power/cooler-running chips and the possibility of a more compact unit (less cooling needed). I would assume that the XBox APU will undergo a similar die shrink around the same time as TSMC convert some of their 7nm lines to 6nm tech.
That's unlikely to happen until probably next year though.
Nobody else playing the latest R&C game, A Rift Apart?
Looks the dogs danglies on my OLED TV. Wasn’t sure if it was more aimed at kids but actually it’s quite a challenge in places. Either that or I’ve turned old and doddery overnight.
If this is just the start of things to come on the PS5 then I’ll not be disappointed.

Bought it, massive ratchet and clank fan. But, sods law the only control i have has gone funny. Right stick drift. Unless you hold the stick steady the cursor scrolls north. Very annoying and getting progressively worse.
Ps customer support said they are getting a fair few of them. They'll sort a free replacement but it will take 15+ days. Gah. 3 weeks without ps5? I know right. First world issues.
Do I just stump up 60 quid to play a game that just cost me 60 quid?
Yeah probably.

Well yes. And a dual charger... I thought everyone got two controllers.........
Never had a need for a 2nd one. Mrs Flat6er is not a gamer and I mostly play rpg that has no need for a 2nd. So only bought the unit with the included stick. My last dualsense lasted from 2012 and was still going strong when I sold the ps4 back in February.

I sit close enough that I can plug in the charge cable with ease but I also like having a second controller so I picked one up. Another thing I did was take the analog thumbstick covers that I had from my ps4 pro and put them on the PS5 controllers. On removing them the ps4 controllers still looked new which was a real testiment to how good the covers are. On they went to the PS5 controllers after a good scrub up and they themselves look mostly new.

I managed to get one from Argos yesterday. Was great taking the kids in the car to collect it without telling them where we were going.
I actually couldn't believe my luck that I was able to get one really. Just happened to look at my phone and the twitter account that gives stock updates. They'd said argos had stock about thirty minutes previously and amazingly it was showing stock at an argos about ten miles from my house.
It is the Ratchet and Clank bundle. I'd not played that before but it seems a pretty excellent game so far.
