PlayStation 5 Thread

I thought I'd treat myself to a PS5 and couldn't believe they are out of stock everywhere still! Blimey, I knew they were in short supply after launch and around Xmas, but I've kind of forgotten about it since then and haven't payed it any attention. Oh well, doesn't seem I'm missing out a huge amount at the moment, but still shocking they aren't available by now.
Yes, it is pretty crazy. At least with PC GPUs there was the reason of Cryptomining demand that was making new cards practically impossible to find (and even massively increasing the price of older ones on the secondhand market). You just have to assume that the demand for next gen gaming hardware due to the coof keeping everyone at home was massive enough to outstrip production.
Despite my reservations about the bulk and looks of the thing, I would almost certainly have bought a PS5 by now if they were easily available.
But on the bright side, since I managed to get a 3070FE for my PC it has become my primary gaming platform. I enjoy games running on the PC at above PS5 quality on my TV via streaming to my Shield, I can stream amazing PC VR titles wirelessly to my Quest 2 (which is no slouch as a stand-alone VR gaming headset either) or I can play them traditional-style with my G9 monitor at my computer desk.
My PS4 Pro (with PSVR) has not been used for months and I'm not inclined to spend the bucks on a PS5 when I have a better quality PC already. I'd rather spend the money on a CPU upgrade (the final refresh of Zen3 is looking like it will be awesome so waiting for a Ryzen 5900XT or whatever they will call it).
Yes, PC hardware costs a packet but the games are super-economical if you shop around the various online stores. Consider putting the cash into a PC - it's better for games and actually useful for other stuff (yes, I know the GPU situation is even more diabolical than PS5 supply issues).

Sony posted an ad video on twitter then pulled it because the console was upside down.

It feels a bit like availability might slowly be improving and if scalpers can't make a profit and so stop buying them up it ought to improve even more.
Yeah, scalping has a feedback effect on prices - As prices go up, incentivising scalping, the scalping itself pushes prices up even faster making scalping even more attractive. But when the trend turns, the opposite is true and as there are fewer scalpers, the prices drop quickly meaning even less scalping.I can't help but think that overall this has all been bad news for Sony and MS. They haven't made any extra money or sales from the scalpers (they could have sold everything they made, regardless) but people who paid silly scalper prices have less cash to spend on games.
Personally, it has put me off upgrading to a PS5 (as I would otherwise almost certainly have done) and I'm now all-in on my PC. I'll reconsider a PS5 when they do the inevitable 'slim' revision and supply is good as it would be nice to enjoy my existing library of PS4 stuff and access whatever exclusives don't come to the PC. I really didn't like the look and bulk of the OG model anyway.

I saw an offer come up from EE who I'm with on my phone contract. They had some PS5's come in stock and I do believe I've ordered one. Quite handy actually, I just added it to my monthly bill 0% interest for 11 months so nice to spread the cost. Got an extra controller in the bundle and ordered Ratchet & Clank and Assassin's Creed Valhalla separately which should keep me amused.
