Dualsense Edge controller, PS5 equivalent of an Xbox Elite controller https://blog.playstation.com/2022/08/23/introducin...

Why is this better than the standard controller?
Customisations appear to be the selling point. If you’re happy with the way the current controller works, no need to pay extra for this one in my view.

Price increase

Maybe it's just me, but isn't the price of tech supposed to go down as it gets older?

Except when there is a war, recession, component shortage, logistics challenges.

Same with used car market. 25% average increase than has previously been observed.

Sit tight, it will all come crashing down.

If it is priced similar to Elite V2 for the xbox it will also need that weighty quality component feel you get with the Elite V2. It's not just about the functionality but when you use the Elite controller it is very obvious how much better built it is. I'd love that to be the design, though the high price may not be ideal for volume sales. I await further info :-). I'm sure I'll get one either way. Cheers
The build quality of the current controllers is poor IME so it can't get much worse....
There are two types of PS5 controller. You can read up on the part numbers. My original one that came with my PS% creaks and groans in your hands if you apply some torque to it. I then bought another white one and the same issue. I then bought a midnight blue/black one and it was many times more robust. I then found out they had made some changes to the design and it is much better.

It may still suffer from whatever you feel is low quality on it but it is much better,

Im terms of why this new controller is better than the standard one, you can also add buttons on the underside so your fingers under the controller can press R2 or L2. That is one benefit for gamers.

The one big gripe I've got with the dual sense controller is how uncomfortable I find it when I've got to hold down R2 for any length of time, i.e. for a racing game. Gives me such bad hand cramp. Much prefer the Xbox controller for racing games, but love the PS5 one for everything else.

The Xbox pad is more ergonomically comfortable, the tech in the PS5 pad is obviously way more advanced. Disappointing that neither offer a permanently cabled option.

I’m About to buy the wd black sn850 1tb ssd.

once I install it can I store games directly to this and play them or do I need to keep transferring them from this to the original ssd?

You can set it t store game data and keep the install on the internal disk.

Sorry I’m not really knowledgable with this, my ps5 storage is full so I’m constantly having to delete something to download something else.

If I buy the ssd and install it do I essentially get another 1tb of storage so I can Download and play as though the ps5 came with 2tb in the first place or is there more to it than that?

The required specs are here: https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/hardware...

Not all games are necessarily playable with exactly the same performance provided by the PS5 console's internal Ultra-High Speed SSD, even where the M.2 SSD device's sequential read speed is faster than 5500 MB/s.
You need a read speed of 5500 MB/s, it seems. If you have this and match the other specs, I suppose you can install games to the SSD and run them from there.

Yes. Once installed you can simply go to the memory settings and tell the PS5 to install games on the WD instead - it can then run PS5 games. (I got the 2TB and have about 30 games on the PS5 right now)....

It is also nice and easy to install too which is a bonus.

Perfect going to order it,

Quick question, on Amazon I see there’s 2 WD_black SN80 1tbs,

One is £117.99 with heat sink and another is £179.99, the dearer one is officially licensed ps5, but both appear to have the same specs, is this just marketing or is there a reason I should pay the extra?

I went for the 1tb seagate Star Wars branded beskar ingot one because at £120 it was cheaper than the regular firecuda.

Utterly pointless as it will be hidden deep in the console, but I’m sure it will come in a nice box biggrin

Just installed one of these ( 980 Pro heatsink) that I picked up for £100 during the Amazon event last week.
Yep - you install games on it and run them from there.

It should be delivered tommorow.

Will be nice to have quite a few games readily installed, my issue is I seem to be spontaneous, and most of the time the game I want to play isn’t installed…

Picked one up a while ago and tried to play Assetto Corsa it doesn’t seem to work. Is it because it’s an old game?

Shame as despite its age it’s a great game.

It’s free to download if you have PS plus.

Just had a look and it doesn’t seem to be there? It’s the original game not Competitizione which is there?

I bought the ps5 version of Competitizione a few days ago, I’ve been playing it ever since, so I can only assume the ps4 version is bugged?
