I’m still catching up on the PlayStation ecosystem games being a convert from Xbox for around a year. Just played God of War on the PSPlus classics section and enjoyed it immensely, and only had a few weeks to wait for Ragnarok to come out after completing it.
Spoilers hidden, but safe to say that I didn’t intend to stay up this late so this gives an indication how much I’m enjoying it!
Maybe I underestimate how popular the previous game is as it’s clear you get straight into the story and it straight up assumes that you’re already well versed in the characters and back story. I wouldn’t want to start from scratch with this one.
Really enjoying the combat so far as it encourages you to make more of your surroundings and be more dynamic in how you wade through the particular onslaught.
There is plenty of eye candy graphics wise. Seeing the shore and rocks etc clearly through the water is lovely. Perhaps I’ve been spoiled with other games but it’s not visually blowing me away as ‘next gen’. Seeing the few wildlife for example completing pretty short loops feels less immersive and some textures look off.
I’m a few hours in but it still feels like the stabilisers are in the bike as it’s nigh on impossible to miss the extra chests etc if you just listen to Atreus or Mimirs prompts. Hoping it leaves you to it later in the game to give more satisfaction clearing areas.
Under accessibility options you can lengthen the time before they offer hints. The ravens and things are much easier to spot this time round though, much harder to miss than the first one, but then the game world is a lot bigger too, so maybe that's why they've done it.Spoilers hidden, but safe to say that I didn’t intend to stay up this late so this gives an indication how much I’m enjoying it!

I've just bought a PS5 direct from Sony, £479.99.
How was the ordering process direct from Sony? I'm hopefully getting myself one for Christmas and it's looking like direct from Sony might be the best option at present. Joined a small queue, placed in basket, ordered and it turns up a couple days later. Super easy.

I made a spontaneous PS5 purchase this week, did a click n collect from Argos for the GOW bundle, and picked up COD:MW2 as well. At 50yrs old I've had and still own all the Playstation models, in fact my loft is like a museum as I still have every console I've ever owned stored up there, from the Spectrum 48K onwards, and every age I've ever bought.
Annoyingly, the day before I bought it I had submitted an invite request to Amazon for the console only, as I wanted GOW on disc. Assuming it would take days/weeks, I ended up just going out and getting one from Argos instead. The following day I received authorisation from Amazon!!!!
I need to look into game share as my son has a PS5. Is it possible to share his PS Plus or do I need my own?

PS+ is currently on a Black Friday 25% discount offer on the PS Store.
Buy Shopto have PS credit available at discounted prices so stock up on that and redeem the codes, then buy PS+

I am a bit weird and the way I gauge the value of a game is the amount of entertainment I get compared to the cost of other media.
I am a big film fan and a cinema ticket is around £10 or so with a film usually being around 2 hours. I am happy to pay that, that means £5 per hour of media entertainment is my standard way to justify buying a game. If a game is £40 and I get 8 hours of enjoyment out of it, I see it as being worthy of purchase at £5 per hour, the same as a cinema trip...
Anyway... I took advantage of some Black Friday offers and picked up:
The Last of Us: Part 1 - £45, Amazon
Even with 25% off, it is still very overpriced but ND games hold their value very well, and ultimately I do want this game despite completing it a dozen times because I want the higher frame rate.
Chernobylite - £16, Amazon
Know nothing about it but it was cheap so what the hell!
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection - £18, ShopTo
I've not played Uncharted 4 since launch and absolutely loved it, I always wanted the Lost Legacy DLC (which I believe was around £15-20) but never picked it up as it seemed like a lot of money for an extra few hours of playtime... But £18 for the pair with the higher framerate seems fair to me.
No Man's Sky PS5 Edition - £20 - Smyths
Never played NMS before but I've always been interested in it, I know it was a flop at launch but it supposedly is quite a good game these days. I am confident I will get my £20 worth!
Spider-Man Miles Morales - £21 - Smyths
Never finished the first game and tended to get bored right at the end (played through twice and gave up at about the same point) but from what I've read, MM is much shorter (arguably too short, in fact). I was hoping to get the bundle with the remaster of the original, but at the end of the day, I still probably won't finish it, so I'll just go with MM for now which can hopefully give me an afternoon of enjoyment.
The thing is though, getting new games is nowhere near as exciting anymore, if anything I find it off-putting.
Having to spend in some cases hours installing and updating a new game before I can play.
Earlier in the year, I booked a few days off work to play Gran Turismo 7. I received it at 9 am on launch day. Didn't actually get playing until about 30 hours later, with my first install attempt failing and corrupting.
Similarly, waiting 2 full days a couple of Christmas ago for the Black Ops Cold War Campaign to download as it isn't on the Cold War disc! 2 f*cking days waiting to play a 4-hour campaign!
I miss the days when you'd stick the disc in and have fun!

I don't (yet) think it's such a giant leap forward over the PS4.
I've just finally got hold of an OLED 4k tv (LG C2 42") and have been playing my PS5 on it. Just replayed Demon's Souls and I can't get over how nice it all looks. As much as I love my PS4 Pro (I sold it to get my PS5 and then bought another one a few months later once I realised I could remote play my PS5 using the PS4 but downstairs), the PS5 playing on a good 4k TV blows the PS4 out of the water. The game looks beautiful and so detailed.Have you managed to play anything that blows you away yet?
Cheers

Got mine ordered Technically its a Christmas present so not allowed to use it until Christmas Day though.
Get it plugged in and updated nice and early, and download the games you play most so they only need a small update when you start to play at Christmas. You don't want to wait all that time to start playing then have to wait till boxing day for updates to install.
You'll probably want a nice OLED TV to get the best out of it as well .

Not 'blown always yet but very close. My original comment was based on the upscaling of Warzone.Have you managed to play anything that blows you away yet?

I am now fully engrossed in Days Gone, which is a PS4 game, but looks (and plays) brilliant.
I haven't tried any PS5 games yet but Santa is bringing me Deathloop so looking forward to that.
