I gave up trying to get Alan Wake (GOG/Epic) to work.
Bought it on Steam and it works. Looks like the Steam version has a bunch of redistributables that the GOG/Epic versions don't have.
It's times like this you remember it is not a PC, and I suck at Linux.
I really like the Steam Deck, I generally use it for older games. I did try Days Gone and it brought it to its knees. I may buy Horizon Zero Dawn if it is cheap.

I found running at low resolution + FSR was sort of playable.
I'll have a go at running on my PC and see how it runs.
Battery life is a concern for newer games. I was having a mess about with some slightly older stuff (which I think works perfectly on the deck) and was knocking back CPU power until the frame rate got to 40fps. RE4 was running lovely at about 9W.
I have removed most of the 'big' games and am concentrating on some older/smaller games on the deck (I do have the 2 Evil Within games and Yakuza 0 on there at present).
I need to have a mess about with it in docked mode and see how games run at 1080p.

So here I am at a Premier Inn, and I brought the Deck and Jsaux dock. Can confirm it works with the HDMI connection to the TV in the room . The free WiFi isn't great, but I got connected and logged in.
Samsung Dex works with my phone connected to the dock too, but I didn't bring a keyboard and it's very awkward with the short cable on the dock connected to the phone
If I had a BT keyboard and mouse, Dex would be usable, as it is here with the phone screen touchpad and screen keyboard, not so much . This public information service broadcast now ends.

Valve have now had my Deck for a full week and according to them are still waiting for it to be delivered.
I’m getting withdrawal symptoms.
Had a reply they say when they receive it in the uk they then ship it to Prague and do not acknowledge receipt until it’s processed there.I’m getting withdrawal symptoms.

Got the 512GB, haven't used the other, so no idea about the screen.
Get the biggest storage you can afford, easy for games these days to take up a quarter of that without breaking a sweat. Even something like Dirt Rally 2 is 95GB.
I have a 512GB SD card as well, so 1TB in total, still have to think about what I'm nstalling!

How is everyone getting on I am thinking of ordering one... is the top model worth the extra given its just the screen and storage?
Part of me is tempted to get the lowest version and just put a big SD in it? Thoughts?
Apart from slightly quicker loading times, I'd get the cheap one and stick a decent card in it.Part of me is tempted to get the lowest version and just put a big SD in it? Thoughts?
I've got the 256 but would probably go for the 64 if I had a choice again.

You may be able to get away with just using a big MicroSD card. I find that games generally aren't that much slower loading from MicroSD - though I have tended to use my card for the smaller games and put the bigger AAA ones on the SSD so I'm probably not comparing like to like.
Yeah just been watching a lot of reviews and I think I am going to go for the base model.
The DIY upgrade to 512 is looking like £60-£80.
The price difference is £220.... so other than the glass there is a £140 saving.
Then I looked at some reviews of the 2 screens and I have to say to my eye the regular screen looks a lot better. Given I will be playing indoors 99% of the time I really think the base model looks like great value.
So, I am going to order the 64gb. I might even try it with just an SD card to start with. See how that goes, as I have a couple of 128s lying around doing nothing.

Might get one of these next year , I currently play Stadia and Xbox One S.
I'm also a Linux user, might buy one with a dock and use it docked as my day to day browsing machine (Steam deck is more powerful than the current daily machine I use) and then have it to play games on as well.

Massive Steam sale on at the moment, I've ended up with Hollow Knight and Stardew Valley, which just between those is enough to take over my life!
Got Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order after seeing some YouTube videos too, says Unsupported but it runs flawlessly at 45fps on Medium Settings, the only slightly tricky bit was getting through the Origin installer as that required the trackpad, but after the first boot up you never see it again.
