Cheers, just bought a 1TB WD SN740 3320 NVME to replace the internal 64GB as it seems to have decent power consumption and generates less heat than other cards according to those who have tried it on the Steam Deck subreddit.

Has a write speed of 5000MBps and seems a bargain at £75 delivered so total spend so far for the base Steam Deck with 1TB storage is just under £400 which makes it way better value for money than the 256/512GB versions.
Where did you pick that up for £75 from?
I bought it from here
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004873375947.h...

People on another forum have confirmed it's legit from that store and delivery is around 10 days.

I was torn between the WD and the Sabrent card but people have had issues with reliability with the Sabrent Rocket and also the Steam Deck can't take advantage of the PCIx4 used on the card.

I really wanted the non reflective screen or would have gone down the same route.
I'm not planning on using it outside so hoping the non reflective screen will be ok, watched a few comparisons on youtube and there's not too much of a difference in glare between them both when inside.

My 64GB Steam Deck arrived over the weekend, quite impressed with the emulation side of things, didn't realise it could handle PS3 and Switch games.

Most the recent AAA games on the Steam library range in size from 50-150GB so 64GB internal storage doesn't really cut it in this day and age imo.

One thing I've noticed is that the button layout is pretty decent but ergonomically the four lower down buttons on the back case are really uncomfortable to press, mapped a few games to use them but got RSI after ten minutes.

I noticed last night when using the desktop mode setting up some emulators that there's two stuck pixels frown

Left it on a pixel refresh video overnight but they are still visible, they aren't noticeable when there's motion on the screen but now I've spotted them I can't unsee them especially in low light.

Anyone know if Valve will RMA for just two dead pixels?

Was hoping that screen technology would have matured to the point that in QC any dead pixels would mean the panels rejected, remember there being well publicised issues with the PSP back in the day but Sony would only exchange if the screen had 5 or more defective.

I would be surprised if they don't just open a support ticket. If they give you any grief just return it under distance selling regs and buy another.

I also find the back buttons awkward, which isn't ideal as I'm constantly using them in Elite Dangerous.

The JSAux replacement rear panels come with back buttons extensions which some people on the subreddit have found to be an improvement.

I'm tempted by both the showoff clear case and the button mods.

Cheers looks like it's worth a punt for $30 if it makes the back buttons more comfortable, the built in heatsink seems like a good idea.

To give them credit within half an hour of creating a support ticket with photo they have started the RMA, only issue is that it looks very long winded sending it to Prague then having to clear customs before it's inspected, hopefully it won't take too long to get a replacement.

The JSaux heatsink extension part of the backplate has had mixed reviews, it doesn't add much heat dissipation capacity just a little more overall heat capacity, maybe good for games with transient loads.

The metal also apparently gets uncomfortably hot to the touch. So if you like leaning the deck on your bare leg or hate the thought accidentally touching it you can leave out the thermal transfer pad on installation and it shouldn't get too toasty.

I had to return my first one it had a faulty gpu. Don’t worry if you don’t get much in the way of comms .. Think it too 2 weeks from collection to return.

Not managed to get Alyx working on my Steam deck yet, it’s a bit more complicated than I had hoped for!

If anyone finds an easy way of doing it, please give me some pointers!

Anyway Wolfenstein was on off for £3.74 so currently installing that now!

Probably best selling it sooner rather than later as the ASUS ROG Ally is rumoured to undercut the price of the steam deck whilst doubling the performance.
Looks like the 256 model goes for around £400 on ebay.

Got my RMA sorted after two weeks and I've not been using mine as much as I thought I would, have played a few games from my steam library but mainly Dreamcast games via Emudeck.

Ended up getting the case for mine, the extension buttons make the back buttons useable without RSI and although the backplate gets hot it's not too hot in my opinion and away from the contact points with your fingers, feeling the extra warmth that's being emanated from the heatsink it must be good for the deck from a thermal standpoint.

Impressed with the build quality and it came with the tools needed to open, replaced the 64GB eMMC with a 1TB NVMe at the same time which took around 10 minutes.
I'd probably have got the smoked version rather than the clear in retrospect as it may blend in better with the front.

Bashing through RE4 Remake on mine.

I still think it is great, and is perfect when trapped in a German hotel in crap weather.

thumbupI really like the way that looks, wonder if you could polish it up for even better transparency?

Pity doing a similar clear case at the front seems extremely difficult in comparison.

It looks interesting but between the battery, the screen, Windows, and the power output in the higher modes (which is where the 'double performance' would really kick in) they're likely to be measuring battery life in minutes rather than hours for any intensive game that would actually take advantage of it over the Steam Deck. You also only get that full fat power with the more expensive version, which in no way is ever going to undercut the Steam Deck.

Historically power wars in handhelds have failed, miserably (I know, I opted for a Game Gear over a Game Boy as a kid), even the might of the PlayStation brand couldn't change that.

Competition is great, but I don't think for a second this is going to tank values of the Valve device.

Still enjoying mine, its nice to be able to just sit down on the sofa and mess about for an hour rather than going and playing on my gaming PC thats in a room on its own. I have to say, having now travelled with it too, that its great for being on the move.

If only I had this sort of device back in the early 00s. I used to carry my PS2 with me to hotels. This would have been bliss.

Anyway, jacko, maybe you are just missing some good games? I have found that it is very much a case of you have to find a game that suits the deck. IMHO of course.

It doesn’t really work for me as my gaming fits into two camps.

Sampling games in game pass, usually for about 30 mins per game.

Or when I find a game I like I tend to rack up 100s of hours and require the full setup.

I was hoping to get into emulators etc but never managed to break in despite a few hours trying

I played a full play through of Dark Souls 3 and DLC. Worked great,

I've also played a 33 hours of vampire survivors.

Currently messing around with "all humans must die" and "dragons dogma". Though Lego Undercover on my Nintendo Switch is getting some attention too for those spare short gaming sessions.
