It's not Epic Store free but I thought a great deal on an ahead of it's time shooter.

F.E.A.R. + Perseus Mandate & Extraction Point DLCs for £1.40 on Green Man Gaming (for Steam key) - https://www.greenmangaming.com/games/fear/

If you've not played it now's your time.

Free now, as of 18 mins ago.

Reviews seem to suggest it is strangely calming and relaxing.

By contrast, I really didn't get on with Car Mechanic Simulator 2018 that was available a few weeks back. Whilst I recognised all the various parts and equipment from various car-based TV programmes like Fast & Loud, Chasing Classic Cars, Wheeler Dealers, etc. etc., it didn't really engage.

Update: Doesn't run for me. Silently crashes to desktop the moment I launch it. I'm running Windows 10 (which it says is supported) and meet all the system requirements. How annoying.

Rookie error.

Did you try launching again?

Do you have GeForce Experience installed, does it recognise the game (scan for new games) and use it's recommended settings. Something might be set wrong. Or look for a config file and do manually.

I tried a few relaunches and then a reboot and relaunch. I haven't tried anything further yet; I'll look at it later.

Thanks for the advice though. thumbup

LOL. Judging by 50-odd comments basically saying "me too" and "same here" it would seem not. hehe

For the benefit of others, the TL;DR from the comments is the developer messed up their Epic drop. To the extent of still including the Steam API DLL in the installer, apparently (which is obviously completely useless with Epic). Seems the developer have tweeted that they are working on a fix.

You'd think someone would have tested this on Epic ahead of this going live today wouldn't you? confused

Hadn't seen that, so thanks thumbup

Grabbed for a bit of nostalgia as Doom was the single and sole reason for me buying my first PC, back in '93 smile

Play the classic Doom games through GZdoom or similar. Makes them much better to play.

On Steam and a bittersweet deal.

After succumbing to cancer the developer of Waves and Waves2 asked that their games be made free to play.

Geometry Wars style twinstick shooter.

If anyone else has Amazon Prime, amongst September's 8 free games are Assassin's Creed Origins and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. Two biggies.

No sign of Shadow of Modor, but Assassin's Creed Origins and Football Manager 2022 is on there.

Also on Epic is Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition again if anyone missed it last time.
