GT7, wheel and racing seat and now with VR2 is insane!

The strap on the back of the head unit is getting in the way of my seat headrest - which is a pain. But racing other cars is out of this world, looking over your shoulder etc. The interiors are amazing…

Just tried the RE Village demo - ducking terrifying! Was sweating and ended up turning it off, couldn’t hack it!! Plus it doesn’t help when my wife sneaks up and grabs or pokes me every 5mins!

What is the consensus here on letting children play VR?

I know Sony state over 12’s but I can’t decide if this is corporate overreach or sensible precaution. Both of mine (7&10) enjoyed the quick blast they had today, but I need to make a conscious decision on my household policy…
It's am easier decision for me. My gf's boys are 5 and 7. I think the youngest is too young for it (both being able to use it sensibly and it actually fitting him), so to avoid arguments neither will get to play on it.

Managing short stints before I feel a bit motion sick now, but each time I can go a bit longer.

The immersion is unreal. I just drove the ND MX5 round the Nords. I own an Nd MX5 and I have driven Nords in real life. My socks were blown into the next universe. Very, very, strange sensations of being somewhere else while sat on my sofa.

Perhaps the strangest thing was looking down and seeing a thin me in a race suit with a torso and legs I couldn’t move. That was quite disconcerting.

Only tried on controller so far, will try on the rig over the weekend when I have more time.

I’ve asked the mrs to get me one for Xmas, (yep!)

Not sure I’m going to be able to hold off, however if I do it will give me enough time to gauge the games at least

My PSVR2 arrived yesterday and I had the chance to try GT7 for a couple of hours before bed.

It is unbelievably good and slightly disappointing at the same time.

Firstly the sense of scale is incredible. The cars and surroundings appear life sized. The feeling of sitting in a real life sized car at a real race track is uncanny and only gets better when you are racing other cars in close proximity as the light fades into dusk and full darkness.

The 3d gives provides depth perception which makes judging distances and braking points feel so natural.

The disappointment comes from the fact that the graphics are somewhat blurry. The sweet spot seems very small and despite what most of the previews said, there are definite compromises to the appearance of the game over the flat screen. I do feel that the numerous YouTubers and journalists who previewed the game have collectively hyped the expectations of the graphical performance to unrealistic levels and I think that for many, this will be a big disappointment when they first get their hands on the game. I haven’t tried any other games so I can’t speak for their performance.

Having said that, there is nothing that can prepare you for the experience of having your favourite car in front of you in the VR showroom, which you can explore in such fine detail. The different reflective qualities of the screws that hold the filler cap on the Pennzoil skyline compared the the filler cap itself, or the subtle variations of colour and texture in the sidewall of a tyre is just staggering to behold. As I leant in for a closer inspection of the 3d moulded lettering on a Porsche 919 tyre, I head butted my steering wheel by accident! Luckily no one was around to witness that!

The VR showroom was a feature I could not have cared less about before but it is truly staggering in reality and adds a whole new level of geekery to the game.

I don’t suffer from motion sickness, I never have but I did feel some strangeness playing GT7 in VR. After a gentle start, I eventually felt confident to tackle the 24 minutes of Le Mans which was intense and atmospheric in a way I have never experienced in a game.

I’m sure as I get used to the headset, things will gel better but I am overall very excited about the prospect of further races in VR

I agree about the graphics. Playing the kayak game I was slightly disappointed by the blurriness of things at medium-far distance. Mainly because you can tell just how incredible the game would be had the graphics been pin-sharp.

I was on the fence earlier about getting VR2. Given the expense and the fact that my VR1 sits in a cupboard, unused. But now I've given in to the temptation and ordered one. I did enjoy it on GT Sport. Was a bit blurry but once you got 'out' driving it was very lifelike. You could really appreciate undulations you didn't really experience on flat screen. I did get a bit of motion sickness after a while, but I know now to gradually extend my exposure to it.
And I have a race seat and wheel - so should be awesome/realistic.

I got mine this morning and played 30 mins of GT7 before leaving for work. I echo what has been said above about graininess. I was thoroughly underwhelmed. After listening to all the rave reviews I was expecting more. Playing the game itself was amazing though!

I tried 2 mins of the Star Wars demo before giving up. It was too much like playing a PS VR1 title.

I have Horizon downloading for after work tonight. Fingers crossed for that one!

Managed to get an hour on Horizon this afternoon. WOW!

Honestly I think this has ruined me for normal 2D gaming now.

That initial boat ride, the view through the mountains as you climb further and further up, the level of immersion when you talk to people close to you. You are truly inside the game!

Quick blast on No Mans Sky. V impressive.

Something about being ‘inside’ a spacesuit/helmet translates very well to a VR headset where you have some physical sense of looking through a visor etc

The holographic menus that project from your gloves are all superbly done. Definitely a high point so far…

Gave that puzzle game half an hour this evening. Really enjoyed it, pretty relaxing, but I don't think there are enough levels/puzzles to warrant buying the whole game.

I'm finding Horizon quite repetitive now, and coupled with wearing the headset for more than an hour it starts getting uncomfortable I've not made much progress on it. I might start wearing a hat or headband and see if that helps.

I've bought Pavlov and intend to download RE:V VR over the weekend too...

My PS5 Is overheating and shutting down every 20mins, so i guess it’s working hard under VR.

Im going to be removing the fan and cleaning…

Oh and flying the ship in NMS was an epic moment- it like Flight of the Navigator!!

I remove the covers every 6 months and vacuum out the dust. It is safe to do this, the PS5 was designed with this in mind.

Have been hearing this a lot. I notice you often see those who are new to VR thinking it's the most amazing thing ever (jaw on the floor) and those who have been playing with VR for a few years suggesting it's really not so good despite the hype and specs. Many also appear to have fallen into the VR trap of assuming video footage of someone playing is actually what the person playing is looking at. Even on my earliest VR setup, everything looked superb on my monitor / TV which I would often leave on, so others could see what the player was experiencing inside the headset.

My jaw was on the floor with my first VR headset, too, mostly because it was VR. I quickly began to wish for a better product, however. Even when I upgraded after some time, and it was a much improved experience, I still found myself playing via a 4K screen more often because it just looked so much nicer (49" 120hz OLED currently) My current VR PC headset ended up gathering dust.

I believe I was one of the first to post on these forums many moons ago relating to my VR experience after purchasing a unit very early on (May 2016) and whilst I'm sure with specific games that don't rely on distant detail so much the VR2 will appear more attractive, when you hear that you can't read braking zone signs until it's too late, or that some find it hard to identify distant cars in GT7 etc, well, it makes me wonder whether I should hang on for a VR3! It all sounds much like I felt after the "wow" of VR had subsided and the thoughts of "Hmm, things look a bit blurry" had crept in way back during those early PC days.

Finished the Horizon demo and it was a blast and really shows where Sony could take it if they build a game for the platform alone. GT7 still feels the best for me had a time trial lap in Formula 1 car last night and I was bobbing my head side to side with the feeling of the speed! Resident Evil I think I am going to really struggle with its so atmospheric and I am not very good with scary games.

I think you are right.

I have had the original PSVR since launch. I was wowed by the VR experience. Six years later I was expecting a bigger leap in fidelity, probably unreasonably so. The lack of the original VR wow factor to bolster the experience is likely why i am feeling underwhelmed. That and the fact that I play PS5 and a 3080 based PC on an LG 42C2 OLED TV mean that I am spoiled too!

I am likely going to send the VR2 back. Given where VR isn’t, I am glad that I didn’t buy a high end PC headset that I was contemplating for DCS.

I think some people just struggle with VR, a few of the games on PSVR1 used to really make me feel dodgy after a few minutes. If you stick at it and do short sessions, it will improve, some games are worse than others, free roam walking games with undulating terrain I find the worst. Also try putting a fan in front of you.
A lot of the motion sickness problems on PSVR1 were down to the slow base refresh rates (they were using 'reprojection' from 45/60 fps to fill in frames to bring it up to something usable) because the PS4 wasn't up to high framerates on most games. The actual headset was pretty fanstasic for the price and considering it came out years ago.

I found it hard to do more than 60mins (often less) on PSVR1 before I started to feel a bit hot and bothered but have no issues doing 2-3 hours on Quest2 (native or PC streaming) where base refresh rates start at 72fps native and go up to 120fps. 90fps is a sweet spot - better for battery and feels totally solid.

What is the return policy? Got me thinking had a few days fun and I am missing just playing FIFA on my TV! Will it get to the point that this is just sitting around like my PSVR1!
