I have several hundred hours in NMS on PC, pretty decked out, even after the nurf my hauler has 60k dps, I have never played it on my PS
I completed the new expedition over the weekend on PC and on VR2, i felt it would be a good way to quick start the account on the PS with credits, nannites, plans and the awesome fighter boost, and you get access to the anomaly space station. I lucked into a class A freighter of the new design for 4 mill as soon as I jumped at the end of expedition, before I have even started building a base. I played several 3+ hour sessions with no issues.
I disabled teleport moving for more traditional sticks as it allows for easy strafing in combat
Setting up the very small sweet spot on VR2 took me ages to work out how to do, but it helps improve quality greatly. There is a very small amount of screen door effect, which I can live with, but the image quality is very poor compared to a 38" UW monitor running on a 4090 ... It reminds me of starring a CRT TV from 6 inches away, its impossible to make out things in the distance on planets.. close up stuff and the menus are fine.
But holy cow the immersion is off the scale, the cockpit blew my mind, i especially love that you have to grab the rail to open the canopy, mining and the caves are especially impressive, planet combat is super immersive and the giant walker is positively scary! (one of the expedition levels is on a hostile sentinel planet and you only have 2k dps, people have complained about it but it was easier just to kill all 5 waves and shut them down than having them constantly hassle you or even worse attack you in a ship with zero upgrades).
Loved it and cant wait to get back in, i need to sell a dozen or so twitch drop ships for cash and upgrades (ekk i had forgot to login in to twitch for day 4 of NMS drops ...) and then start kitting out my freighter and build a base.
There areas I am having trouble with:
1) controlling the ship (it massively over corrects on every move and is very hard to line up on a target to hyperspace jump)
2) picking up larval cores is impossible, you only get a few seconds before they despawn and that's ignoring the horrors but I find it impossible to target them to activate the pickup motion
3) in the scanner i can not find a way to target distance resources so I can lock them, it just seams like luck if you wave the controller about and even them most of the time It wont target ...
Is there a way to quick bind recharging your ships shield like you can do on the PC?
All in all loving it a lot

I am likely going to send the VR2 back. Given where VR isn’t, I am glad that I didn’t buy a high end PC headset that I was contemplating for DCS.
What is the return policy? Got me thinking had a few days fun and I am missing just playing FIFA on my TV! Will it get to the point that this is just sitting around like my PSVR1!Edited by jgrewal on Monday 27th February 10:02

Interesting to see all the replies so far on the PSVR2. I too bought PSVR1 when it came out.
I played DriveClub and enjoyed it, I think i just messed about with it, rather than taking it seriously. None the less, it is probably the best car driving experience I've ever had so far, though its important to say that I've not played a Gran Turismo game in VR yet. The reviews of GT on the original psvr put me off, so I decided not to try it.
At that time, I was most impressed with the Resident Evil 7 game in PSVR. I was completely blown away with it. I'm not great with the speed of shoot'em'ups, I prefer a slower pace, and that game fitted my pace perfectly. More so than any game I can think of, to be honest. I became totally absorbed with it. Wandering about in the haunted house, looking at all the details, amazing. Until they port this game to PSVR2, if you have not tried it on your PSVR1, do so.
I have an Oculus Rift S and an Alienware PC laptop and played Half Life Alyx when it came out, and l will say that as far as I am concerned, VR games do not come better than that game as of March 2023. There is talk of it coming to PSVR2 and I really hope that it does.
I bought and started to play the Call Of The Mountains game, and it looks nice, but what a load of hard work! I feel like it's my new VR job as a roof tiler. Climbing up a ladder for no discernible gain. I'm not sure I like it, and I will give up on it in a few minutes, load of bks. I will also add, this game shows that the PSVR2 controllers are quite uncomfortable, they cut in on an edge inside my thumb.
For a great PSVR2 game, the Resident Evil Village game is so much better. Get it, It's much more effective as a VR game, I'm playing this since I got the headset. Awesome.
I've just bought GT7 so I can play it in PSVR2. Not tried it yet, I shall see what I think of it. I will add I have a T300RS steering wheel to use with it. Will be my first driving game on VR besides DriveClub. More on this soon.
Cheers,
Steve

Resident Evil made me really queezy more than GT7 did.
I find the smooth forward movement hard to handle too, I much prefer the "teleport" short jump method for movement, though it does not seem available in RE8 yet? I move the controller a tiny bit so the movement is really slow, works for me. I imagine this needs to be combined with lowest difficulty level though..Cheers,
Steve

This might be a dumb question but do you have to have a tv to use ps5/vr2?
I’d love a race seat etc with the VR but the only place it might fit is my office which doesn’t have a TV. I’m guessing you do need a tv to setup the ps5?
Nope, just turn on the console and then the headset and you're good to go.I’d love a race seat etc with the VR but the only place it might fit is my office which doesn’t have a TV. I’m guessing you do need a tv to setup the ps5?
I'm considering sending mine back. Not because I'm disappointed by it, I honestly see it as the future of gaming. But more just because I already don't get a huge amount of time to spending gaming at the moment and whilst the VR2 is a fantastic experience, I do find it quite tiring. I found Kayak to be a little boring, nor were the graphics good enough to really blow me away. Horizon is just climbing all the time. Resident Evil has been good fun, but after an hour long session on that a week or so ago I did feel quite queasy. Pavlov seemed to be quite good fun, but I didn't find the controls that intuitive... I haven't yet played GT7 which I may try and do today which might be the VR2s saving grace...
All in all, it's a very expensive toy to have sat around for the 1-3 hours I might get to use it each week.

Same here, 5 and 8. It's really hard to explain to them why they can't use it because the games they want to play don't work with it, plus I just don't want to see it broken or argued over. So I don't play on the headset at the weekends to save the arguments and making them feel bad!

Anyone got suggestions of chair/race wheel etc setup?

I have a Quest (1) and after playing it a fair bit initially it has now sat in a cupboard untouched for I don’t know how many months. So I do worry the same would happen with the vr2. But, I do think if I got myself a race chair and wheel I would always be keen for a bit of racing, so hopefully it wouldn’t end up the same as the quest gathering dust.
