OK so how do I do this, I've got a wireless Internet system, keyed in all the info to the PSP including WEP key (long-winded typing) it picks up the SSID but when I try to test I get;

"A connection error has occurred
(80410D09)"

any ideas?

[small]Oh and if I do get it working what exactly can be done on the PSP/internet? [/small]

Don't have a PSP yet but since it's a corporate Sony thing I would have thought you'd probably need a Sony PSP internet account? I'd doubt it was free.

Have you tried reading the manual?

Yes I actually read the manual (after I had struggled without it) but had to download it first as the supplied one is in Japanese

I have followed the procedure as described and the PSP detects my wireless adaptor (and someone elses :hehe) but will not connect. I don't think you need any Sony account - but then I can't get it to work, so what do I know?

What WiFi router are you hooking up to? The 'good psp games' thread has a few people having issues with the Wanadoo kit.

I got mine on pop, but don't use it for anything - waiting for other bods at work to get TOCA 2 to race aginst.

The wifi router is a Wanadoo-F1D2 'livebox' I use the same WEP key for my Laptop which works fine. The PSP sees it and recognizes it, just won't connect.

Maybe it's the Wanadoo kit that has problems? but when I first got it I had no problem with the wireless but several problems with the wired side of it.

I had the same problem as lockstock. Re-entered the WEP key and it works fine now (Linksys Wireless Router thingy).

You get full interweb access, but without java/flash support.

I had the same problem when I was setting mine up. I then remembered that I had configured my wireless router to only accept certain MAC addresses so was rejecting the PSP.

Might not be the cause of the problem you are getting, but something to check.

What's a MAC address? there is mention of a MAC number on the Wanadoo setup.

I assume that the WEP key is entered without spaces and all uppercase letters as per the number I have been given?

Those Wannadoo boxes are a nightmare. They automatically filter MAC addresses, so you can't just connect any old machine to it, correct WEP/WPA key or not. You can log into the box via it's web interface and add a new device, or I think you press a button on the box and then connect your new device (PSP in this case) and it allows it (almost like pairing a DECT phone with it's base)

I can access the setup of the livebox online and it gives a list of associated devices, with what looks like a MAC address (presumably my Laptop) and I can remove but there doesn't seem to be any facility to add, of course when I connected the Laptop I ran the software in it - can't do that with the PSP.

It is possible, but probably not a good idea, to disable WEP security would this work?

The only buttons on the livebox are the enable/disable wireless and a switch to stop/start it flashing.

It's the button that makes it flash that means it's ready to accept a new device as far as I can remember. It took me a while to work it out and this was some time ago as I was setting it up for my Brother (I have a 3Com box). If all else fails, read the manual, but it is definitely possible to install a new device without adding specific software top that device.

I have had some fun and games with a US Robotics wireless router - it won't let me use shared key authentication/encryption. So I think a netgear may well be the way forward.

That's the one, did the setup and pressed it (button 1) wireless indicator flashes and it allows a connection - so that's that sorted, many thanks Roop.

Now, just got to find out what can actually be done on the Internet

u need to set up your wifi propperly.

and if your wifi AP has a encryption key generator you need to use the HEX code rather than your chosen key.

i have had a jap unit since january, ever since wipout pure, ive been using the web browser.

i cant wait for them to bring out a PSP internet game using wifi

The upgrade will take away the ability to run homebrew stuff if you are on 1.50 or earlier. If you are on 1.51 one like me you cant run it anyway so theres no point in hanging about

Someones working on a 2.0 to 1.50 downgrade that tricks it into think its on 1.50, but retains the ability to play the latest games and surf the web

So is it a good idea to update or not.

I updated to 1.52 from the original 1.50 (?) but I'm hearing that ver 2.0 causes issues with non-Sony stuff, having said that I've never tried any non-Sony stuff, just Sony games but I will be wanting to put films on memory stick (when I get round to it!) - is that still possible with 2.0 or do they make you buy UMD films? .

What can you actually browse with the browser?
