GTR2 game to launch in summer

More realism, better driving model promised

none
none

GTR2, the next rev of the FIA GT racing game, is set to launch in the summer. It's a racing simulation based on a racing series that aims to be accurate down to the last detail.

It uses the new DirectX 9 graphics engine and an improved driving model for even more realism than the previous version, reckoned developer SimBin.

"The dynamic day-night light cycle, weather changes, and impressive damage system once again provides an impressive experience of the exciting FIA GT racing series on your PC at home", it says here.

The screenshots look good anyway...

excellent good to see this on the front page of PH

I wonder if the cars will be as fun to drive/crash as those in GTL though.

Hooray! Hopefully it might contain backwards compatibility, so I can use it with all the gtl cars Apart from that, it's another reason why I'll have to buy a new rig come summer!

Great news about this game, I hope SIMBIN don’t get bored with this one as they did with GTR, patches were slow in coming, and online multiplayer log-in is a joke since patch 1.5 was released.
The boys at rscnet.org deserve better.

I've always had one big gripe with all car games across just about every format. The sound of the cars is rubbish. PGR on the Xbox 360 might just be the exception but everything else in my book really misses out on bringing the cars alive with varied and accurate sounds. Apparently for GT3 on the PS2, the developers actually used real samples from the actual cars but if they have they've done a pretty sh1te job of it.

Lets hope GTR2 has the sound to match the graphics.

Er, I think GTR and GTL did a pretty good job of getting the sounds right - indeed many of us piss about in the ferrari's just to listen to the engines...

*tee hee*

I was kinda looking for an excuse to go; I thought I'd use you as an excuse - hope you felt guilty

I nearly did catch it, but I was tired and not concentrating, hence not really being subtle with the accelerator.

Either way PV, I'll get you...

Oh, and drive the bloody ferrari, it makes a GLORIOUS sound...definitly the best I've heard in a game...

The Toca series have usually very good sound effects. I've just played a demo of Toca 3 on PS2 and it is way better than any other racing game I've heard until now.

Wow this is great news. I own a copy of the original GTR game and it rocks. It is just requiring me to get a 20 inch lcd with 7.1 surround sound and a steering pedal setup :P

All the big budget games sample, but PGR isn't great imho. The one that impressed me the most was forza as at least the 911s sounded authentic.

My beef with this game (well GTR v1) was the awful copy protection they put on it. It puts a device driver shim on your PC which is no different to the thing Sony just got publicly lambasted for with their CD copy protection. I refuse to buy a game with this protection system on it as it affects system stability and can introduce other incompatibilities. (The protection is called Starforce)

Get rid of Starforce and I'll actually consider buying it.

I'm somewhat unhappy I never got to play GTR - it looked a lot of fun - but I won't run it because the copy protection is anti-consumer, and I don't want to have to have a CD/DVD in the drive to play a game. This is a PC, not a ruddy console.

I'm no fan of starforce since it caused me a few bluescreens when I first installed GTL.

However that said, not buying because of that seems a bit like the whole nose cutting face spiting thing, you are missing out on great games!

Its very different you can see what starforce has installed, sony installed root kits which are hidden and will not be monitored or found using normall tools so you wouldnt know it was there.

So it was malicous code whereas starforce isnt, its just a pain in the arse..
