cheers for the file dave - i think its a bit better but its still no where near as good as the other tracks, and even though i have put everything onto medium settings its still only running at 20fps or so - 13 on the more detailed areas....

Its bizarre ! Bathurst runs at 61Fps !!!

So does it run ok on yours ? what FPs do you get ? are you running any tweaking software for yoru card ? i suppose there could be some options in rivatuner i could try but i shouldn't have to really

that can't be helping matters i suppose but i cant help thinking the textures are draining the speed...

anyone else care to test the track and see what the results are ?

i have 768mb ram and a 7800GT

I'm no 'puter genius but Nordschliefe is a very long track with a lot of detail so I'm wondering if your RAM is a little low. The game itself recommends 1GB of RAM for the standard tracks.

I'm running a P4, 3.0Ghz, 1GB RAM and a 6600GT. I run at 1280x1024 32bit (no AA or Vsync etc)with DX8. I'm getting 38 fps in pits (10 cars) rising to 60 at 1st corner and dropping back to 45 behind pits. I haven't driven further than that yet with the updated track.
Are you trying to run with DX9 ? That really seems to hammer frame rates, especially on night races.

BTW, Thanks for the download link Dave

its got to be the system memory then i guess - it really bogs down near the buildings - it doesnt matter how much i lower the res its always the same fps.... on the other hand i am really enjoying bathurst in the 906 at 61fps

memory will have to wait a while - just looking at my first flat this month !

Well I think whoever made the Ring needs to do some serious optomisations.

I think it was worse 'cause it was night time and everyone had headlights on, but there was only 5 of us.

I was getting 14-18fps (in 1024x768) on the grid where i normally get 60+ with 20 cars

My PC:
Athlon 64 3500+
2GB DDR400
2x 7800GT (but I did have 4xAA & 8xAF)

The Nurburgring in the league is it the usual GP track or the nordschleife?

i think the textures are way too detailed to be honest! You only need the basics to make racing fast and fun at the ring in my opinion (a medium track texture, low res trees and a few medium res graffiti markings) and given how long the track is i doubt the GTL coders envisaged a track that large being used. Look at the kerbs and they are very detailed in the current version - no wonder its slowing our pc's down... Who looks at the kerb detail when racing !!?

I was thinking my 768mb of ram was causing my problems but if you have 2gb and are still having problems then its got to be texture/video card related. Its just to heavy for the cards to handle at speed, even a single 7800GT or SLI setup.

I'd rather not try the ring now until i know i can drive at 50-60 fps, its crap driving otherwise as the cars seem to dumb down and they get round the corners at silly speeds and it goes all arcadey !

EDIT: I'm half tempted to have a crack at making a PH version that will run on slower pc's....

Thnak god, got a 'temporary fix' for the wheel

Anyway... I've got these readings for the modified track FPS:
Avg: 18.982 - Min: 13 - Max: 31

And for the Original:
Avg: 18.232 - Min: 11 - Max: 30

So, a small difference, reasonable noticeable. If it makes that sort of difference on this GPU, then it should be a bit better on yours.
I will work on it some more and upload later if anyone is interested?

Dave.

yeah go for it mate What have you done then? You think we could cut it down further ? Perhaps get rid of all the crowds and buildings? (apart from the garages)

While we were having a "practice" session at the ring last night, if I switched my headlights on I could turn my wheel side to side and be completely opposite the wheel in the car on screen. It was pretty much undrivable. I vote we stay with daytime races for now

What settings are you guys running?

My (quite average now 2ghz AMD with 1GB ram and 6600 GeForce) was seeing a minimum of 37fps at night with the lights on, I just tested it at a high load area on the back straight behind the pits, that was always a heavy drag on my old FX5200 card and the GTR version of the Ring. I'm running Dx9 but I am not running maxxed out game video settings. But the FPS rate here is the same as it was for the Anderstorp race for me.

You do know about turning the Motec off in your PLR file, plus another FPS saver is running in letterbox mode like I do. You don't lose anything at the top and you only lose in car dials and steering wheel/pedals at the bottom but if you have the big dials turned on and wheel turned off like I do then you won't notice the loss. Pic above has been cropped at the bottom at the point where the incar bit stops but the big dials carry on down.

The poor response was actually around the rear of the track between the carousels.
I've just turned off the motec and will change to letterbox next time I start the game. I'll see if that improves matters.
BTW, my setup is very similar to yours except for a P4 3.0Ghz Although I don't run DX9. I might make a backup of my PLR file and do some investigation.

Change: Show MoTeC in Cockpit="1" to Show MoTeC in Cockpit="0"

You might be ok with the hood bonnet view although in letterbox mode (ala GPL) you'll be losing a bit of sky and track but still less to update on the screen so it might work

Odd, I did 1 lap and it didn't drop below 37 anywhere else.

Do you have the draw ahead turned right down, it's not needed at the Ring and it'll stop drawing unnecessary distant hills and features that you are nowhere near, whilst still keeping all the track you can see visible?
