I practiced a bit more tonight, I can do regular 1m27s laps but can't go any quicker at the moment. In the words of Nelson Piquet, "it's like riding your bike in your living room".
Slow speed understeer is my problem I just can't get rid of at the moment, out of turn 4 (left hander) and turn 5 and turn 6

Mike - playin my cards close to my chest 'Rossi' style the gap in the times is less than at Anders just need to keep it on track and we should be ok, Ians excursion across the grass / gravel would = less time loss than a spin I think but FWD looks a bit quicker than Ian will be damn close again though, our risk rate is lower though, as we dont have those awfull pit stops to make
Be nice to kick 76 butt again

I had a quick go last night PV and managed an okay lap - I can definately improve as I only did 1 lap before I wnet to bed (knackered).
Maybe we should have a no racing after the pitstops rule so that we can beat them? Ferrari style
We need to concentrate on starts so we can hold them up a lot before they pit too!

Remember, we'll have 21 laps to make up the pitstop difference at Dijon, compared to only 15 at Anderstorp Of course the pitstop will lose us more time relatively because of the speed differential on the pit straight.
Still undecided what car to take for the race, I'll be revisiting the Capri tonight
I have a cunning plan

I reckon the tactic of choice for the 76 cars has to be fuel up before the start, then pit, do nothing, then run the race full length...
Or if we make a good start, run the race till the penultimate lap then stop and do nothing
I'm now torn between 3 cars at Dijon, Pantera 1:27.2, Capri 1:27.4 and 911 1:28.0. With a bit more seat time in the 911 I'm sure it will be closer to the Capri times.

What times are we getting in the 906?
I was struggling to get consistently under 1:31 since I've reset my wheel settings, but last night I watched a lap of Davyboys and using a couple of his lines I now have a best of 1:29
I'm now aiming for 10 laps of 1:31, then a 40 second pitstop followed by another 10 laps of 1:31

Seems the last corner is where the time is made or lost.
What gear are you in through the last corner, if it's 3rd try 4th. The GT40 is a torquey V8 so should accelerate well in a higher gear.
Bit of background information.
In 1957 Juan Manuel Fangio won the race of his life, leading the German GP at the Nurburgring he had to pit (he started on alow fuel load and gambled on a re-fuel half way through the race), this pit stop took the targeted time PLUS a further 56 seconds due to problems. He was now almost a minute adrift of Peter Collins and Mike Hawthorn in the leading Ferraris. Collins was flying, breaking Fangio's lap record set earlier in the race. Fangio then recorded a series of laps that took most people's breath away and more importantly seconds from Collins' lead. Breaking the lap record lap after lap (he broke the lap record ten times in 22 laps), Fangio gained as much as 1 second per mile on lap 15. On lap 18 he recorded the first 90 mph lap time and by the end of the race he was close to a 92 mph lap time. With two laps to go the large lead was gone and Fangio took the lead to record his finest victory.
As well as great bravery and in his words "finally conquering the Nurburgring" one thing he did very deliberately was to use a gear higher than normal for most corners. Which is what I always try, sometimes it works.
Oh my god I've given my secret away...........
You still have to make it work though, with a higher gear in a torquey car you might find yourself spinning more, throttle control becomes very important.
Here endeth the lesson

Thankyou Prof.FWD
i've been lapping at 1:28 in the pantera tonight, but thats flat out.... not looking to setup camp in the staff car park this time round
From the times being posted here, I think we should be in for a thrilling race Unless we have too many spins, at that right hander with the dip !
Nah password will be same as usual..
If there are any Password changes there will be a lot of notice so nobody missed out
Don't worry about your times, I am crashing like mad and my Graphics card randomly turns itself off leaving me with no choice but to restart, and the maximum framerate is about 30... a bit like a lottery really
As long as you are consistant you should be good.
Dave.
